Action for residents all year round What we have campaigned for in West Shoebury If you would like to raise an issue of concern, or help our campaign, please contact Derek or Tony at: Derek Jarvis 01702 292 744 [email protected] or Tony Cox 07944 519011 [email protected] ■ Two public toilets at East Beach and Campfield Road were set to close under the Independent Party, Labour and Lib Dem Administration. Following a campaign led by local Conservatives with the support of West Shoebury residents, these proposals were dropped. ■ An alternative budget was put forward by Southend Conservatives which would have seen Council Tax frozen and saved 11 litter bins in Shoeburyness from being axed. ■ This Administration, as part of their budget proposals, wanted to axe the textiles collection service. Following Conservative pressure, a collection service has been retained where residents can still use any surplus white sacks they have or put textiles in carrier bags for collection. ■ Car parking charges have risen on average by 11%. The Administration wanted to raise car parking charges at Shoebury Common by 20%. Following pressure by local Conservatives this plan was scrapped. ■ Many residents have complained that the parking situation around Shoeburyness High School has got worse. Local Conservatives have launched a questionnaire with local residents to see what parking measures they would like to try and solve the problem.
