All residents must read carefully through this announcement before they apply. Gwanak Residence Halls does not take any liability on any problems that arise due to failure of doing so.

3) Choose one between “Single”, “One room double”, “Both” (There is no disadvantage for choosing “Both“) - For single, resident can choose between bldg.918 and BTL buildings. If resident
applies for both single and double, they will be randomly assigned. - Those who apply for both will get two separate waiting numbers for both single
and double. However, they must reside where their waiting number gets announced first, and they are not allowed to choose between two.
3. Who can Apply?
1) Conditions : Graduate students who plan to study at Gwanak campus during the 1st semester of 2015(students in their coursework or full-time research student)
A. Masters or Ph.D Students in their course work : Current Students, Incoming Students, Students coming back after a leave-term
B. Students in Masters-Ph.D Integrated Program : - Students of Integrated Program who have finished more than 3 semesters and
acquired more than 24 credit(students who are equivalent of Ph.D student) will be regarded as Ph.D student only if they check on Ph.D student box
- If resident enters faulty information related to application condition(academic status, GPA, address, etc), resident’s admission will be cancelled. If resident is caught after the admission, resident will be expelled immediately. (ex: Masters student applying as Ph.D student)
C. Research Students : - Gwanaksa only accepts full-time research students
- Full-time research student must meet rsesearch student rules of SNU Graduate Schools and spend more than 5 full days per week on campus to write a thesis without holding another job. (Can’t be registered on four insurances1) under

resident name) - Accepted student must submit “Four insurance registration certificate” during
document submission & dormitory fee payment period. - How to print four insurance registration certificate? : Go to www.4insure.or.kr →
Click ‘certificate issuance (증명서발급)’ - In case resident fails to register as research student(paying research student registration
fee) resident will be subject to expulsion. - If resident in employment continues to live in dormitory, resident will be regarded
as non full-time research student, and subject to immediate expulsion ※ Part time instructors or students in research project that provides payment and
registration to four insurance will be regarded as having employment.
2) Restriction for ApplicationA. Insufficient accumulative G.P.A holders: those with GPA below 3.0 - The cutline is 2.7 for Law School students - Those who have no GPA such as exchange student and freshmen, can apply the
dormitory without GPA - If student only takes “Thesis research” class which has no letter-grade, he/she is
not eligible for this application. - Grades of 2014 fall semester and winter session will not be included B. Contagious disease carriers (those who didn’t get vaccines for tuberculosis,
measles, etc)C. An applicant who received disciplinary action of more than 6 penalty
points(restriction on dormitory application) within last two years of their residenceD. Seoul Residents : Student with at least one of his/her parent living in Seoul ※ If resident’s father or mother moves address to Seoul after resident moves in,
resident must self-report and volunteer to move out. If dormitory finds out, resident will be subject to expulsion.
E. Students who are judged to be inapt for living in by the Dean of Gwanaksa
1) National pension, Emplㅐyment insurance, Health Iinsurance, Workers' compensation insurance

5. Document Submission and Fee Payment for accepted students
1) Period : Weekday 10:00 ~ 17:00 during Jan. 5 (MON) 2014 ~ Jan. 14 (WED)※ Details will be announced with accepted students’ list
2) Attention! : Even if you are in the accepted students’ list, your admission will be subject to cancellation if you fail to submit all documents and the payment in time.
6. Submission of Health Certificate
★ Changes 1. Requirement for Health Certificate now includes ‘Measles vaccination certificate (or measles antibody test results)’
2. Expiration date for ’Chest X-ray’ changed (Current) Within 3 months from move-in date → (New) Within 1 year from move-in date
1) Guideline for the Applicants in abroad
A. Medical certificate We only consider the chest X-ray result in the medical certificate to verify that resident does not have tuberculosis(TB). We don’t need any other test results.

B. Measles(Also can be included in Medical Certificate above) - Applicants should prepare the Measles Vaccination Report or Measles Antibody Test Report ① The Measles Vaccination Report which can prove you got vaccination for Measles TWICE - If applicants have this report, you can just submit it. - If not, you can submit it after you get vaccination twice. (The interval between 1st and 2nd injection should be 4 weeks so you should think carefully whether you will get vaccination or test for Measles) ② The Antibody Test Report for Measles - If applicants do not have the Vaccination report but do not wish to get a vaccination, get an Antibody Test result which can show they have “positive” reaction for Measles. - It also can be included in your Medical Certificate. - If applicants get a ‘Negative’ reaction, then they should get vaccinations twice.
C. Public/Private Hospital, either in Korea or in the other country, and SNU Health Service Center can issue the documents above.
D. The medical certificate should be written in English or Korean. If it is written in other language, applicant must provide a translation to English or Korean as well. The size of the hospital does not matter. The medical certificate and Measles report received from a personal hospital can also be accepted. 2) Guideline for Applicants in Korea or residents of Gwanak Residence Halls
A. Free Health Check-up for Applicants - To Whom? : All Gwanak Residence Halls Applicants - Period : Dec. 9 2014 (TUE) ~ 12(FRI), 10:00~17:00 (Excluding SAT, SUN and lunch hours) - Location : SNU Health Center - Process i. Before going to the Health Center, you should prepare your Measles Vaccination report which you received before. ii. Print out Health Certificate format that is attached at the bottom of Application Notification (Refer to Appendix 3) iii. Go to SNU Health Center and submit ‘Certificate of Vaccination’ and ‘Health Certificate format’ and go through check up. iv. Health Certificate Result Submission - ‘Chest X-ray’ : Results will be forwarded to Gwanak Residence Halls automatically (no

need to submit anything) - Measles Vaccination : If there’s vaccination history, the information will be forwarded to Gwanak Residence Halls automatically, if not, resident must get vaccinated and submit document in person.

B. Regular Health Check-up - Location : Health centers, Hospitals, Medical Centers - Those who had a check-up in institutions other than SNU Health Center, must get a copy of Health Certificate and submit directly during the document submission period.
7. Other Informations
1) Schedule for waitlisted students’ additional rounds of admission announcement A. 1st Round : Jan. 16 2015(FRI) 11:00 B. 2nd Round : Jan. 26 2015(MON) 11:00 C. 3rd Round : Feb. 16 2016(MON) 11:00 D. After these rounds, additional announcement will be on 11:00 of every Monday.
※ Schedule subject to change depending on Gwanaksa’s circumstances
2) Conditions for admission cancellation A. Reporting faulty information(academic status, GPA, address, etc) (ex: research student/degree
candidate applying as student in coursework) will result in cancellation of admission. If
resident is caught after moving in, resident will be expelled and subject to
restriction for future admissions.

B. If resident does not register as a research student, it will be considered as
reporting faulty information, which will lead to cancellation of admission.
Resident in employment is not regarded as full-time research student. If
dormitory comes to knowledge that a resident is not a full-time research
student, the resident will be expelled.
C. If resident’s academic status changes(taking a leave term/having completed
course work/graduating), resident must self-report and volunteer to move out
immediately. If dormitory finds out about the change of academic status, resident
will be expelled. (If residents’ academic status changes to full-time research
student, they may stay at dormitory after submitting related documents that
Gwanaksa requires.)
D. If resident’s father or mother move their address to Seoul, resident must
self-report and volunteer to move out immediately. If the dormitory finds out
about the change of parents’ address, resident will be expelled.
3) Announcement on Residence-term guarantee policy (Refer to ‘Appendix1.
Residence-term guarantee policy’)
4) Guaranteed residency is for 1 year starting March 1st of 2015. You must pay
dormitory fee every month.

[Appendix 1] Residence-term extension policy announcement
Announcement on Residence-term Extension Policy
1. Background on abolishing this policy Residence-term extension policy of Gwanaksa was abolished starting Application
period of 2014 because the residents accumulated and resulted in increase of competition for incoming residents.
2. Residence-term extension of current residents (※ Doesn’t apply for residents who moved in as new resident in 2014)
: In case of current residents, the residence-term extension duration that was guaranteed at the time of their acceptance is still guaranteed.

※ Seoul neighbourhood areas: Bucheon, Gwangmyeong, Anyang, Shiheung, Gwacheon, Seongnam, Kunpo, Uiwang.
C. Those who are applying for one-room double

※ Even if resident qualifies for residence-term extension policy, he/she will be considered on the same basis as regular applicant if he/she doesn’t check ‘residence-term extension’ box.
3) Other Informations
A. Losing Qualification for Application
- If resident applies for “Single” or “Both”, resident can’t apply for residence-term
extension
- If resident’s academic status changes from Masters to Ph.D, resident can’t apply for
residence-term extension. Resident will be subject to same selection process as
incoming student.
※ Masters-Ph.D Integrated Program students whose status changes to (having completed
more than 3 semesters and having acquired more than 24 credits) will also go through the same
selection process as incoming students.
- Once total residence-term extension period expires, resident will go through the
same selection process as incoming students.
B. Counting Residence Duration
- Minimum residence duration unit is “semester”; even if resident has lived in
dormitory for just 1 month, it counts as 1 semester
- Applicant’s residence at single counts towards total residence duration
C. Continuity of Residence
- If resident does not live in the room continuously (applying to move out or taking
a leave term), resident loses qualification to apply for residence-term extension

D. Etc
- Policy will be applied to Students in Masters-Ph.D Integrated program in the
same way it did for regular students in their course work. (This means, Masters student in program will benefit for the residence-term extension duration
that’s given to masters student and Ph.D students will benefit for the residence-term extension
duration that’s given to Ph.D Student. Students making transition from masters to Ph.D will lose
qualification for residence-term extension.)
- In case of Law School student, Gwanaksa provides admission slots to college, and
college selects on their own. Therefore, Law School students are not covered by
Residence-term extension policy (※ Contact department administrations office for
selection-related questions)

3. How to Apply
1) Room-fix termination
A. Room-fix means choosing to continue staying in current room next year
B. Who can apply to room-fix termination? :
Those who wish to move to another room (those who do not want room-fix)
C. How to apply?: check 'room-fix termination’ box.
D. Attention: Anyone who intends to apply for a ‘roommate’ or ‘life pattern’ must
‘check ’room-fix termination’ and then apply for the option one wants.
2) Roommate
A. Designating resident’s own roommate
B. Attention!
- Residents who want to be a roommate with each other, both people must
accurately fill out all of other person's information (including student ID)
- If one of them does not apply for roommate or give the wrong information,
they cannot become roommates.
- If residents wish to apply for a roommate, they must first apply for ’room-fix
termination’ and then file application for roommate.

3) Life patterns (bedtime)
A. Choosing to share a room with someone with similar bedtime (going to bed
prior to midnight)
B. Attention!
- Even if resident applies for this option, finding the roommate whose life pattern
match with resident is not guaranteed.
- If resident wishes to apply for a life patterns, resident must first apply for
’room-fix termination’ and then file application for life pattern.
4) Female-only Building
A. Choosing to live in female-only dormitory (bldg. 901)
B. Attention!
- For those who currently reside the female-only dormitory
① If resident wishes to remain in the current room: Do not check anything
② If resident want to stay in the same bldg 901 but move to another room:
Check the 'room-fix termination' and check 'female-only dormitory'
- If there are many applicants who apply for the female-only dormitory, resident
may be moved to another building.
