Steven Laine TechServe Alliance Board Member, Future State

As President of TechServe Alliance, it is my pleasure to welcome you to Palm Springs and the 2015 Conference & Tradeshow.

This location is a desert oasis in more ways than one. In addition to the wonderful desert scenery, the program we’ve put together is cutting edge—a fountain of knowledge designed to improve your bottom line.

Let me give you a quick rundown of what we have planned over the next couple of days, starting with our speakers:

The subject of “Moneyball,” Paul DePodesta, will speak about baseball and data-driven, decision making. I think we can draw some important lessons from how this new way of thinking transformed old-fashioned scouting—changing the very way many American industries do business.

Alan Beaulieu is not your typical economist. His perspective is always compelling and blended with a dose of humor.

Jack Daly is back again. Please take the time to hear Jack’s presentation. If for some reason you miss his presentation, I’m told Jack (along with many of our other presenters) also share insights while chatting in the hotel bar.

The sessions are split into four tracks: two Executive tracks, a Sales track and a Recruiting track. You probably know which ones are your favorites, but I encourage you try one outside of your wheelhouse.

If you’re a TechServe veteran like me, you know from experience that at conference, the networking is equally informative. Not only will you make friends, but this is a place to share industry experiences. These “stories” can help you accelerate changes in your business by validating the pursuit of worthwhile ideas and avoiding the less worthwhile ones.

And don’t forget the Exhibit Hall. Make sure to review the products and services of our sponsors and exhibitors, and consider how they can help you reach your business goals. I appreciate their support of this year’s conference and just how much they know about our industry.

Finally, remember to reach out to others who are at conference. The beauty of our community is our willingness to help each other. Please introduce yourself and feel free to ask questions.

On behalf of Mark Roberts, the superb staff at TechServe and my colleagues on the Board of Directors, welcome!

Steven Laine

President’s Welcome

We wanted this year’s conference to be as personal and relevant as possible—to truly make it YOUR conference. We wanted to know what’s on your mind, what topics were most critical to your business, and what topics or speakers you wanted. We asked, you answered and we listened. We are proud to have put together what we feel is our best conference lineup to date. The 2015 TechServe Alliance Conference & Tradeshow is a crowdsourced event—we couldn’t have done it without you!

Thank you for your continued input and participation. We will look to you again next year for ideas for YOUR 2016 Conference, located in beautiful Amelia Island, FL from November 3-5.

This Year, it is YOUR Conference

Paul DePodesta Subject of “Moneyball,” New York Mets VP of Player Development and Scouting, and Entrepreneur

“Moneyball” Behind the Scenes: The Data-Driven Path to Winning Hear the remarkable, true story behind best-selling book and major motion picture “Moneyball.” Learn about Paul’s pivotal role in transforming both the game and the business of baseball and how this revolutionary, data-driven management

approach can transform your business.

About Paul Paul DePodesta gained worldwide recognition as Assistant General Manager of the Oakland Athletics where he worked with GM, Billy Beane, bucking an ingrained system to transform the A’s from a team with six consecutive losing seasons into one of the winningest teams in baseball. Their unorthodox approach was the subject of the bestselling book “Moneyball” by Michael Lewis, which was later made into a major motion picture. Following his extraordinary success with the As, Paul became one of the youngest General Managers in Major League Baseball history. In his first season in LA, he led the Dodgers, who had not won a postseason game since 1988, to a Division Championship and a playoff victory. He is currently an executive with the New York Mets organization.

Talent Rover is a comprehensive software platform that modernizes the staffing and recruitment industry. It was born from frustration with software that overstated features, had piecemeal functionality and were peddled by a myriad of companies with no “on the desk experience.” Talent Rover has evolved beyond just an applicant tracking system; it is a fully mobile, cloud-based solution built on the Salesforce platform that integrates social media while combining a robust applicant tracking system (ATS) with customer relationship management (CRM), shift scheduling, human resource and benefits administration (HRIS), compliance management, online timesheets and expense reports, invoicing, integrated accounting software and branded communities to engage both clients and candidates. It embraces analytics enabling you to carefully analyze what drives your business and facilitate growth.
