HAM IT UPA continued tradition. The Bayhawks, Smartlink and McGarveys hosted the 4th annual Ham IT Up on December 18, 2014. Gathered outside of McGarveys, employees, coaches and players gave away hams to the community. Many in the area come out to take part in the festivities and to celebrate the Bayhawks success.

With generous donations from individuals, hams were sponsored for families during the weeks leading up to the event. Vouchers were distributed throughout the week to local charities, boys and girls clubs and senior centers. The Bayhawks also raffled off prizes consisting of gift cards and Bayhawks gear and signed autographs for fans!

YOUTH CLINICSThe Bayhawks know the importance of educating children in the sport of lacrosse. Each player had a special experience of their own from a young age, where their interest in the sport flourished.

The kids are really excited to meet the team and get a unique opportunity to learn first-hand from some of the best players in the world. It is a fun day for all when the Bayhawks can spread the love of the sport that they have enjoyed since they were kids themselves.

  • The franchise has won five MLL championships and five division titles throughout their history in the league.

In 2002, the Bayhawks won their first MLL championship against the Long Island Lizards, after losing the previous year in the title game to the Lizards. In 2005, the Bayhawks wereregarded as one of the greatest lacrosse teams ever assembled. After a season of setting scoring records, they won their second MLL crown.

After moving stadiums from Washington, DC to Fairfax, VA, and changing names from the Baltimore Bayhawks to the Washington Bayhawks, the team finally settled in Annapolis, Maryland. The Bayhawks made an agreement with the US Naval Academy to make the Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium their home field.

In March of 2010, the Bayhawks announced their new owner-ship group: Hometown Lacrosse, LLC led by Brendan Kelly. It was also announced that the team name would be changed to the Chesapeake Bayhawks.

Chesapeake into the team name included all areas of the region. For example: Maryland, Virginia, Washington, DC and the Eastern Shore. The Bayhawks also returned to championship weekend that year and toppled the Lizards for their third Steinfeld Trophy. The following year the Bayhawks lost to the Cannons in the playoffs. Kelly then stepped down as head coach and promoted Dave Cottle from assistant coach to head coach. Cottle brought in a new defensive coordinator, Tony Resch, and rebuilt the roster. In Cottles first year as head coach, the Bayhawks earned the number one seed and hoisted the Steinfeld trophy for the fourth time. The Bayhawks conquered the Denver Outlaws 16-6 in the finals. 2013 was a successful year for the Bay-hawks. They took on the Charlotte Hounds in the finals and came out on top with a 10-9 win; earning back-to-back championships and building a dynasty.

    TM

MLL is comprised of eight teams across the US. The Boston Cannons, Chesapeake Bayhawks (formerly Baltimore and Washington), New York Lizards (formally Long Island) and Rochester Rattlers are original teams starting in 2001. The Denver Outlaws began play in 2006 as part of the Leagues western expansion. The Charlotte Hounds and Ohio Machine began play in 2012 as a part of the League's expansion initiative to have 16 teams in the next decade. Continuing the expansion, the Florida Launch began play in 2014.

During the summer of 1998, Jake Body By Jake Steinfeld was inspired to start a professional outdoor lacrosse league after reading a magazine article about the growth of the sport of lacrosse. Steinfeld sought out a contributor to the article, Owner and President of Warrior Lacrosse Dave Morrow, a leading lacrosse equipment manufacturer, to discuss formation of such a league. In February 1999 Steinfeld and Morrow joined forces with Steinfelds friend and business associate Tim Robertson, Chairman of Bay Shore Enterprises and former CEO of the Family Channel, to form Major League Lacrosse, LLC, a Virginia limited liability company. In 2003, New Balance Athletic Shoe Inc. came on board as a Founding Member of Major League Lacrosse, as well as an Anchor Level League Sponsor.Major League Lacrosse began play in 2001 to capitalize on the growing demand for world-class eld lacrosse driven by dramatic growth in the U.S. lacrosse market. The MLL was praised and heralded for its on-eld play, regarded as the best ever seen. With a year-on-year attendance increase, Major League Lacrosse has continued to lead the sport of lacrosse into the mainstream of competitive team sports.

  • Major League Lacrosse has implemented some innovative dynamics to the traditional game of eld lacrosse that bring the sport into the next millennium. MLL rule changes include the addition of a two-point goal line located 16 yards from each goal and a 60-second shot clock.

Major League Lacrosse boasts the best 230 lacrosse players in the world. They hail from some of the top academic institutions, including Princeton, Johns Hopkins, Syracuse, Duke, and Virginia. MLL icons include Casey Powell, Jesse Hubbard, John Grant Jr., Mark Millon, Kyle Harrison and Brodie Merrill.

The League also features current stars in lacrosse such as Paul Rabil, Brendan Mundorf, Rob Pannell, Miles Thompson, Justin Ward, Steele Stanwick, Jeremy Sieverts and Matt Danowski.

    HEAD COACH

    ASSISTANT COACH

As a renowned collegiate coach, Cottle joined the Chesapeake Bayhawks as a consultant in July of 2010 after Kelly took over as head coach. Cottles expertise in scouting and evaluating talent proved to be an asset to the team and helped bring the Bayhawks out of a 5 game losing streak and win a 2010 MLL Championship. Named president of the Bayhawks in January of 2011, Cottle brought a fresh perspective on leading the organization to new heights through prominent sponsorships and increased season ticket sales. In April of 2011, Cottle again increased his role with the organization as an assistant coach for the 2011 season. With his involvement, the Bayhawks boasted a record of 6-6 and saw a playoff berth in 2011. Becoming Head Coach for Chesapeake in 2012, Cottle led the Bayhawks to back-to-back Championship titles in 2012 and 2013. A Salisbury University graduate, Cottle spent 19 years coaching at Loyola College, leading the mens lacrosse team to 181 wins and 14 consecutive appearances

in the NCAA tournament. In 2001, Cottle was named the Mens Lacrosse Head Coach at the University of Maryland where he remained through the 2010 season. During that time, the Terrapins saw 99 victories and 8 consecutive NCAA playoff appearances.

team. During the season, due to team injuries, Huntley stepped down from his coaching position and joined the team as a player. In two games, Huntley scored three goals. I want to be remembered as a great teammate and leader. It's easy to only focus on yourself in sports, but you are nothing if your focus isn't on your team. A quote I loved growing up was, "A star wants to see himself rise to

the top. A leader wants to see those around him rise to the top."-Simon Sinek.

I would probably like to be remembered for what I perceive to be strengths (athleticism, defense, hustle or even passion for the game), but I might end up being remembered as the guy who wore ankle socks. It still amazes me

how much attention that draws from peers or other lacrosse players.

  • THANK YOU, COACH.If you know lacrosse, you know Dave Cottle. He is known to the lacrosse community as a twitter enthusiast (@DaveCottle), savvy business man, incredible coach,

and an even better person. After a lot of thought, the Bayhawks

President and Head Coach leaves the field following five seasons

and back-to-back MLL Championships with the Bayhawks. His fun-loving

personality and dedicated coaching contributed a great deal

to the Bayhawks organization. Fans came out to each game, clinic and event to see Coach Cottle in his glory, mentoring

lacrosse players and sharing his love of the game.

It has been a huge honor and a privilege to be able to play for Coach Cottle, said Bayhawks

attackman Matt Abbott. He is one of the best lacrosse minds and coaches that the game has ever seen. I'm a better lacrosse

player and man having played for him. Thank you Coach for

everything you have done for me and for the team!

Thank you Coach Cottle, for your years of dedication and greatness.
