WE OVERCOME THE COMPLEX ISSUES OF PEDIATRIC FEEDING STRUGGLES THROUGH OUR FIVE MISSION PILLARS: EDUCATION, ADVOCACY, RESEARCH, TREATMENT, AND SUPPORT.
LETTERS FROM LEADERSHIP
FOURTEEN YEARS AGO, my family faced the unimaginable: three infants with pediatric feeding disorders. They spent the first eight years of their lives living in and out of hospitals across the country, searching for help and a diagnosis. Watching my children suffer in pain is what inspired me to establish Feeding Matters. It is important for me to do everything I can to end the suffering and fragmented care children currently receive.
I am honored to share that Feeding Matters is creating solutions by advocating for a unified diagnosis that will allow for comprehensive care. This groundbreaking work will lead to earlier identification, best practices, and ignite research and education in this field. Ultimately, this will eliminate the systemic barriers faced when providing the most comprehensive care. Thank you for believing in the work of Feeding Matters and your ongoing commitment to our mission.
THIS IS AN EXCITING TIME for the pediatric feeding disorders community. We have built partnerships, locally and globally, to create a voice for the over one million children who struggle to eat, across the United States.
With over two dozen experts on our medical professional council and countless families behind our cause, we have both the knowledge and passion to support the pediatric feeding community.
We know we achieved success this past year in no small part because of the partnerships and relationships we have established. This exceptionally generous community has made us the internationally recognized organization we are today. Without this community of support, we couldn’t lead the way for nourishing healthy futures.

IMPACT OF OUR PROGRAMS
LJ WAS HITTING ALL OF HIS MILESTONES until he suddenly stopped eating and talking around 18 months old. Then, at 4 years old, he was diagnosed with a speech impairment and sensory processing disorder. Now, he only drinks water and his diet consists of five foods. Despite all of this, my son’s doctor never thought LJ’s eating was an issue because he managed to maintain a normal weight.
What his doctor couldn’t see was the fear that comes over LJ whenever food is mentioned, along with the absolute panic that sets in when he’s offered new food. I’m afraid he isn’t getting the proper nutrition he needs to grow, and I’m frustrated his doctor never considered the possibility of LJ having a feeding disorder.
My fear and frustration led me to find Feeding Matters. Their passion for helping kids just like LJ is contagious. With their help, I am finding services my son needs to become healthy and strong.

DURING MY MASTER’S PROGRAM, pediatric feeding was only discussed in one 3-hour class, but it intrigued me enough to supplement my education with additional training and workshops. A client introduced me to Feeding Matters’ resources, and I was excited to learn I was living in the same state as this ground-breaking international organization. I even began devoting my time as a volunteer Community Ambassador.
Feeding Matters is fantastic because of its tight-knit community dedicated to supporting a medical issue that is not always addressed. Through community outreach, I advocate for families and inform several healthcare specialties about pediatric feeding disorders.
Feeding is a crucial part of a child’s development, and I’m excited Feeding Matters promotes collaborative care amongst different specialties. Many specialists want additional resources to help better treat pediatric feeding disorders, and I’m appreciative that Feeding Matters is encouraging experts from around the world to look at the child as a whole.

SUPPORTOur entire community has a vested interest in ensuring that families with children facing pediatric feeding disorders have the hope and help they need to thrive now and throughout their lifetime.
TREATMENTFeeding Matters promotes a model of coordinated care, which evaluates the complexities of a child’s feeding disorder and encourages collaborative approaches to care. Each child deserves individualized and appropriate treatment.
RESEARCH The Infant and Child Feeding Questionnaire© is being researched in hopes of it becoming a screening tool. Currently, it fosters communication between parents and healthcare professionals to discuss red flags that may be indicative of feeding disorders.
ADVOCACYFeeding Matters partners with the public and private sectors to invest in a child’s well-being through insurance reform, proactive public health policy, and early intervention legislation. It is critical for children in need to be identified as early as possible.
EDUCATION Through facilitating opportunities for continuing education, we are committed to providing families and healthcare professionals with the expert knowledge required to deliver collaborative approaches to care.
