The 2015 American Athletic Conference Baseball Championship will be hosted at Bright House Field in Clearwater, Florida. The championship will take place May 19-24. The final will be televised on ESPNU. Additional coverage of the championship will be provided by The American Digital Network. Bright House Field, which is regarded as one of the finest minor league playing and practice facilities in the nation, is no stranger to collegiate baseball after hosting last year’s American Athletic Conference Championship and seven Big East Championships. The site first hosted the conference tournament in 2006 and was the league’s championship destination for seven of the last eight years. Bright House Field serves as the spring training site for the Philadelphia Phillies, and it has housed the Phillies’ Florida State League affiliate Clearwater Threshers since the facility opened in 2004. The stadium’s seating capacity is 8,500. The outfield dimensions measure 329 feet down the left field line, 408 feet to center, and 330 down the right field line. The $25 million facility features a 360-degree main concourse, grass berm seating, group picnic areas, a children’s play area and a state-of-the-art video scoreboard. In addition to a major-league quality playing field, the facility also houses the Carpenter Complex – an adjacent four-diamond practice complex, which allows teams to take full-field batting practice while a game is taking place in the stadium. All eight teams will qualify for the 2015 American Athletic Conference Championship, which will utilize a double-elimination format in two brackets, leading up to the May 24 final, which will be televised at noon on ESPNU.

Houston won the 2014 American Athletic Conference Championship, as the No. 3-seeded Cougars downed No. 1 Louisville 10-4 to capture the conference’s automatic qualifier into the NCAA tournament. The Cougars advanced to the Super Regionals after their victory in the conference championship game.

2015 CHAMPIONSHIP

Happ has led The American in a multitude of offensive categories during the 2015 campaign. He enters the Championship with a .366 average, .490 on-base percentage and .681 slugging percentage, all good for the top mark in The American. The junior from Pittsburgh has also walked a conference-best 47 times and is tied for second in The

American with 14 homers on the year. Happ has also shown versatility defensively, playing both middle infield positions this year in addition to his work in the outfield.

PITCHER OF THE YEARCarson Cross • R-Sr. • RHP • UConn

Cross returned to the mound after missing the 2014 season and quickly showed himself as one of the most dominant pitchers not only in The American but across college baseball. His 10 victories rank in the top 10 nationally, while he has pitched to the tune of a 2.18 ERA and .206 opposing batting average this year. The Brentwood, New

Hampshire, native’s 106 strikeouts lead The American, as does the opposing batting average and his 99 innings pitched entering the Championship.

Romero was a vital cog in the Cougar pitching staff as a freshman, serving Houston in both the back end of the bullpen and the rotation. The native of West Columbia, Texas went 7-3 with six saves, making him the only pitcher in The

American with five or more wins and saves. Romero’s 1.73 ERA leads the conference entering the Championship and his .214 opposing batting average ranks third.

ROOKIE OF THE YEARSeth Romero • Fr. • LHP • Houston

Godwin led the Pirates to the No. 2 seed in The American Championship in his first year at the helm in Greenville. East Carolina enters the Championship with 36 wins, three more than the Pirates’ total from the 2014 season. The Pirates went 15-9 in conference

play in their first year in The American after going in 16-14 in Conference USA in 2014.
