Entrepreneurship theme week in

2nd grade:Treasure BoxEvery pupil brought an empty shoe box to school. The pupil and his/her parents considered the child’s strengths, skills and subjects of interest. Then items reflecting above-mentioned matters were brought to school.

The making of the boxThe pupils decorated the shoe boxes as they liked. Then they put the items brought from home to the box, for example a favourite toy, important photos, a story written by the child, drawings etc.

Every pupil presented his/her treasure box to the others.

The purposeThe purpose of the treasure box was that many of the child’s strengths were uncovered to the others. At the same time, the child’s self-esteem increased.

3rd grade:What people do,what happens in a townThe themes were:• A town and its

surroundings• The public and the

private sectors• Occupations• Taxation• Planning of one’s own

economy

Discovery tour of the surroundingsThe pupils made a list of the different places in their surroundings, for example various shops, services, parks, places of work etc.

A group of pupils planned a town of their own using the resources given by the teacher.

The pupils bought houses, services, parks and enterprises according to their plans.

Presentation of the townThe pupils told the others about the solutions they had made and why.

The other pupils could ask questions and make comments.

Practising decision makingEvery pupil was considering what else was needed in a town.

Then groups were formed and every pupil mentioned one thing he/she wanted to have in the town.

The group chose one suggestion.

The group presented it to the others.

The pupils voted for the best suggestion. The winning solution was a relaxation room.

English lessons:practising buying and sellingThe pupils were encouraged to speak English only.

The purpose was to practise communication skills in English in the context of entrepreneurship.

In the beginning of the lesson, short word lists were studied.

Simple model dialogues were practised.

Every pupil was a shopkeeper, a waiter/waitress and a customer in his/her turn.

There was a food store, a clothes shop and a café in the English classroom.

UNICEF Theme Day, May 5th- We have a Unicef Theme

Day in Nummenpakka School every year.

- The purpose of the day is global education and, of course, raising money for UNICEF.

- This year the theme was helping children get to school in eleven Asian countries.

A get-together in the school gym- Two 6th grade girls

acted as hostesses of the event.

- We watched a UNICEF film about a seven-year-old child worker in Bangladesh.

Warming up- There was a warming-

up dance planned and presented by a group of 5th grade girls.

- Anne and Liisa were warming up their muscles as well.

UNICEF walk- Before the UNICEF walk,

the pupils had acquired themselves sponsors (parents, godparents, neighbours, etc)

- The pupils raise money for UNICEF according to the amount of kilometres they walk, for example 1 euro per 1 kilometre

The pupils were walking or running on the banks of the River Aura for an hour or an hour and a half.They got a sticker for each kilometre they walked or run.

The pupils enjoyed their day out in the spring weather.

nuclear power.

On the First of May we celebrated workers.The teachers and students dressed up in different

professions.
