Happy New Year! We hope everyone had a safe and joyous holiday
season and wish the very best to all. To everyone who got out of Ohio -
congratulations, you avoided the deep freeze. For the rest of us stay
warm, dress in layers and be careful when you do venture outdoors.
2014 will be another busy year for Chapter B starting with Cabin Fever,
February 7-9 at Deer Creek Lodge. We hope to see you there. We would
like to thank Al and Cathy Nighswander, 2014 Diner Ride Coordinators and Dan and Phyllis Kerr as
Chapter B 2014 Couple of the Year. Looking forward the Buckeye Rally is June 12-14 in Xenia, OH and
the Region D Rally is September 11-13 in Kendalville, IN. Chapter B Labor Day Ride will be to
Frankenmuth, MI and our Leaf Ride will be to Presque Isle, Erie, PA. Jackie and I look forward to the
upcoming riding season and the time we share with fellow GWRRA members.

Wow – 2013 has whizzed by and we have now entered 2014. We trust
you all had a good 2013 and that 2014 will be full of riding and good
times. We have to say that I we look forward to our outings that are
scheduled for the coming year. We hope that you can participate in as
many as possible.
As we reflect back on 2013, we know that it had some sad moments for
some of us. but, we know that we can build on them and go forward.
Don't dwell on what you would have done differently, as time won't change that; just think about the positive
things and smile. You never know whom that smile will touch or how that smile will touch someone.
How many of you have a pet? As many of you know, we do and we must say that he is certainly “king louie”
in our home. Louie is ten, but still is as spry as ever and has 'his' chair or throne and can leap from the floor
to the top of it where he presides over both the home and the outdoors where he looks for squirrels, cats and
other animals. Why, in the last year he has treed a ground hog, chased a skunk and got caught by the back
fire and scared a raccoon up our bell pole. That doesn't account for the numerous squirrels and dogs that he
has let know who is boss. At night time, he sits at the head of the bed and guards everything until the wee
hours; then, it is cuddle down time and off to sleep. he has Randy wrapped around his little paw and is given
way too many treats. We can learn a lot from this little king; he doesn't complain; he doesn't talk back; he
doesn't get angry unless pushed tooooooo far; he just loves in so many ways. The love we give him is
returned ten times over.
Well, when you see us in February, let me know about your pet and what special quality it has. (even if it is a
pet pig!) Randy & Linda

Kick Start Your Year,
but be careful as you go
As you travel this New Year, whether it's local travel in ice and snow, or a cross-country to warm and
sun, please be aware of your surroundings. The cold weather can put ice and snow on the ground, which is
always slippery and dangerous. But when traveling across the country, our eyes are affected by the sun which
can make us see items which are not there and we get tired. We close our eyes for just a second and we are
gone – asleep at the wheel and off the road. We may get lucky and catch the vehicle before it is damaged, or
we can have a terrible accident. Either way, we are lucky to be alive. We all worry about the ice and snow,
which is justified, but a cross-country trip is just as dangerous if we don't pay attention to where we are and
what is around us.
We need all of you back on the bikes and trikes in the spring, so be careful and keep your eyes wide
open for trouble.

(DON’T FORGET TO LOOK FOR YOUR MEMBERSHIP #)
Sorry about the lateness of this newsletter. Guess it’s hard to get into the
groove again after the Holiday rush.
Well, from what we’ve heard, we had a fantastic, successful Christmas
Party this year. We’re glad you enjoyed the entertainment as they told
me they enjoyed our group more than a lot of them they have entertained
in front of. They complimented all of you on your politeness and consideration as they were short
two of their band members and could not do the routine they normally do. They loved you all, just as
we told them they would. On such a short notice, and the rough year they have had, they did great.
January is here!!! With a bang!!! What more do we need to say? The members that traveled to
warmer climates this year, made a great decision. Reporting 5 degrees below zero at high noon on
January 7th
pretty much tells the story. For the rest of us, all we can do is remember the good rides
we’ve had last summer and the rides we look forward to this coming summer. For the present:
KEEP WARM!!!

A lot of chapter B Members remember George and Carol Johnston who were dedicated Chapter B
Members until health issues took over. The home George and Carol live in on Plymouth-Springmill
Road incurred severe wind damage from the wind storm a couple weeks back. From the picture in the
paper, it looked as if the whole top of the garage was blown off. Our prayers and thoughts are with
them during this time. Our prayers are with Gail Miller during her Rehabilitation: Please see Sue’s
article for address to send cards.

With winter upon us I thought maybe it would be good to talk about
personal safety. If we manage to injure ourselves in all this nasty
weather we could possibly miss part of the new riding season. I'm
sure none of us would be very happy about that! With that in mind,
here are some tips to follow that may prove helpful.
BE SAFE ON ICE, WALK SAFELY: Walking to or from
parking lots or between buildings at work or while shopping during
the winter requires special attention to avoid slipping and
falling. Slips and falls are some of the most frequent types of injuries - especially during the winter
months. No matter how well the snow and ice is removed from parking lots or sidewalks, you may still
encounter some slippery surfaces when walking outdoors in the winter. It is Important for everyone to be
constantly aware of these dangers and to learn to walk safely on ice and slippery surfaces.
* In cold temperatures, approach with caution and assume that all wet, dark areas on pavements are
slippery and icy.
* During bad weather, avoid boots or shoes with smooth soles and heels. Instead, wear shoes or boots that
provide traction on snow and ice; boots made of non-slip rubber or neoprene with grooved soles are best.
* Use special care when entering or exiting vehicles. Use the vehicle for support.
* Walk in designated walkways as much as possible. Taking shortcuts over snow piles and other frozen
areas can be hazardous. Look ahead when you walk. A snow or ice covered sidewalk or driveway,
especially on a hill, may require traveling along its grassy edge for traction.
* Point your feet out slightly like a penguin. Spreading your feet out slightly while walking on ice
increases your center of gravity.
* Bend slightly and walk flat-footed with your center of gravity directly over your feet as much as
possible. Extend your arms out to your sides to maintain balance.
* Keep your hands out of your pockets! Hands in your pockets while walking decreases your center of
gravity and balance. You can help break your fall with your hands free if you do start to slip.
* Watch where you are stepping and GO SLOWLY. Take short steps or shuffle for stability.
* Wear a heavy, bulky coat that will cushion you if you should fall.
* Try to avoid landing on your knees, wrists, or spine. Try to fall on a fleshy part of your body, such as
your side. Try to relax your muscles if you fall. You'll injure yourself less if you are relaxed.
Ride smart...Ride safe

SUNSHINE LADY

Hi Folks: The holidays are over and everyone is trying to get everything
back to normal. We had a great Christmas and New Years and hope that
all of you had the same.
As you all probably know by now, Gail Miller fell and fractured her
pelvis in three places. She is recuperating and rehabilitating: Bonnie
Oberholtzer is in the same rehab where she has had both knees replaced.
Please send cards to both Bonnie Oberholtzer and to Gail Miller. I’m sure this will cheer them up.

Kingston is right past Walmart on the same side, right on Rt. 250. Can’t miss it. Very close to Buehlers…
I’m sure Gail and Bonnie would thoroughly enjoy any cards, visits, etc. which would show them our
support. Gail is a very strong person and has been through a lot, however, no matter how strong we are, we
like to feel and know the support of our friends
Congratulations to Dan and Phyllis Kerr on becoming the Chapter’s 2014 Couple of the Year. They are
wonderful members and certainly deserve it. Well, Phyllis, anyways! Just kidding, Dan!! Hard to believe
2013 is over and a new year of great riding is going to begin.
Congratulations to Al and Cathy Nighswander for becoming the Chapter’s 2014 Dinner Ride Coordinators.
Al and Cathy have been members for many, many years and are also wonderful members and will do a great
job.
Have a good day! Love ya, Sue

COUPLE OF THE YEAR 2014 – DAN & PHYLLIS
KERR
A little history of how we came to be: Phyllis and I (Dan) bought a
1990 GL1500 from my uncle. My job is delivering mail; while
delivering the mail I noticed Wing World magazine and thought,
hey, I know nothing about this “new Wing”, I need to subscribe.
When I looked Wing World, up I found I had to sign up with
GWRRA to receive the magazine, OK, I wanted the magazine.
About a year later I received some emails from a Don Smith
(never heard of him before, but he was the CD of Chapter B – at
that time) inviting us on some rides they and some others were going
on. One Saturday with nothing going on we showed up for a ride and from that moment on we were
welcomed into the family of GWRRA chapter B. We love the friends we have made and the good times
spent together with all of you. We are honored to be chosen COY for chapter B, and hope to see 2014 be
another great year for the whole chapter. Dan & Phyllis
DINNER RIDE COORDINATORS
Al & CATHY NIGHSWANDER
Happy New Year! Al and I are just learning the responsibilities of our new position of Dinner Ride
Coordinators. We will do our best to make 2014 a great dinner experience for all of us.
Unfortunately, I worked the night, of the first, dinner ride and Al had a firemen's meeting so we didn’t make
the first supper ride to the Warrior on January 8th
. That’s what happens when some of us are still working to
pay some of your Social Security. We are going to try and make the rides that we can.
For those of who need sunshine to help our dazzling moods, we are going to have to resort to tanning beds!
Good news! That's easier to give! Al and I want to let you know about the first 3 dinner rides of the year.
Wednesday, January 8: Warrior Drive-in and Pizza, 3933 Park Ave. W, Ontario. Meet there at 5
