• EFFECTIVE AUGUST 1, 2014

• Significant expansion of hours of

operation

• If vehicle dimensions do not

exceed 12’00” wide; or 13’06” tall;

or 150’00” long:

– No hours of operation restriction in

67 counties.

– Unless specified on an individual

permit.

• Columbia, Dane, Milwaukee, Rock

and Waukesha

– No operation on Summer Fridays and

year-round Sundays from 4 to 8 p.m.

– “Restricted Travel Holiday(RTH)”

• hours reduce no operation period to

between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. on the

evening before a holiday and

• on the day of the holiday,

• except if July 3rd falls on Saturday.

• Vehicle dimensions are 12’01 or wider; 13’07” or taller; 150’01 long – No operation on Summer Fridays

between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m.

– No operation from Noon Saturday to sunrise Sunday.

– No operation on Sunday between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m.

– No operation during hours of darkness [No change]

– No operation from Noon the day before a “RTH” until sunrise the day after the “RTH.” [No change]

Expressway – for both Small and

Large OSOW vehicles:

– No operation Mon – Thurs from 6 a.m. to

9 a.m. nor 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. [No change]

– No operation Friday from 6 a.m. to 9

a.m. [No change]

– No operation Friday and Sunday from 3

p.m. to 8 p.m.

– Sunday morning restriction eliminated.

Dimension on the Milwaukee

Expressway:

– Width = 14’00” [was 11’00”]

– Height = 14’06” [was 13’06”]

– No Statutory Limit for Vehicle Weight

Restricted Travel Holidays

• New Years Day,

• Easter Weekend (Saturday & Sunday)

• Memorial Day Weekend (Saturday, Sunday and Monday),

• Independence Day,

• Labor Day,

• Thanksgiving,

• Opening and Closing weekends of Gun Deer Season,

• Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and New Years Eve.

Escort Vehicles

• Requirement for two escort

vehicles modified

– vehicles exceed 16’00” now required

to have one private escort vehicle

rather than two.

– Requiring an escort and number of

cars for OSOW vehicles between

8’07” and 16’00” wide at discretion

of issuing authority.

• Requirement to equip with black

and yellow diagonally striped

hazard signs is eliminated.

State Patrol Inspector Positions

• Full strength-

– 110 inspectors

– Including supervisors and command

staff

• 10 Sergeants at Posts

• 3 Command staff

– One Captain

– Two Lieutenants

• Current openings-

– 17 field inspectors • 16 will be filled by the current cadet class-

December 2014

– 3 sergeant openings • Promotion interviews December 2014

• Number of inspectors are budget determined

– Smallest State Police/Patrol in the Nation
