The current Toyota Camry Hybrid represents the second generation in the model's lineage, and like its predecessor, swaps out the conventional engine for a gasoline-electric hybrid powertrain. Under the hood is a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that produces 156 horsepower and 156 pound-feet of torque. Paired with it is an electric motor that provides some low-speed propulsion and also acts as a starter when the gas engine shuts off at stops. Combined power output comes to 200 hp and is routed to the front wheels through a specialized continuously variable transmission (CVT). The EPA estimates fuel economy at an excellent 43 mpg city/39 mpg highway and 41 mpg combined.

The Toyota Camry Hybrid is offered in LE and XLE trim levels, which correspond to the regular Camry's midrange and top-of-the-line trims. Standard feature highlights for the LE include keyless entry/ignition, dual-zone automatic climate control, full power accessories, Bluetooth, a touchscreen display and a six-speaker sound system with a USB port. The XLE adds a power driver seat and an upgraded sound system. Main options include a sunroof, leather upholstery, heated front seats, a power passenger seat, a premium audio system, a navigation system and Toyota's Entune smartphone integration system.

While fuel economy gets top billing here, the Toyota Camry Hybrid is still pleasant to drive. Its hybrid powertrain is quite smooth in its operation and provides quick acceleration. Handling is unremarkable and the steering is quite light and uncommunicative, but for most buyers this will likely be a non-issue.
