No. 8 seed. In fact, the Hogs can travel to either MSU, West Texas A&M University, Tarleton State University or Angelo State University.
OPENING DRIVE Texas A&M University-Kingsville (1-5, 0-4 LSC) looks for its first Lone Star Conference victory since Nov. 10, 2012 when it hosts Midwestern State University (5-2, 4-2 LSC) on Kingsville Community Appreciation Night/Hertz Rent-A-Car, Saturday, Nov. 1 at 7 p.m. at Javelina Stadium.
NEW LEADERSHIP TAMUK Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics and Campus Recreation Scott Gines announced on Oct. 13 a change in lead-ership as Kingsville offensive line coach and former Javelina All-American Jaime Martinez was appointed the interim head coach through the completion of the 2014 regular season.
ONCE A HOG, ALWAYS A HOG Interim head coach Jaime Martinez is in his 10th season as the offensive lines coach and recruiting coordinator. Influential in the growth of Christian Garcia, the sophomore earned All-Lone Star Conference honors following the 2013 campaign. Martinez, a Beeville native, was a standout lineman for the Javelinas from 1992-95, earning two all-conference selections. A two-time All-Ameri-can, the Javelinas won four LSC Championships in Martinez’s tenure, going 21-0 in conference play and posting a 39-13 overall record. Kingsville advanced to the NCAA Division II semifinals three times and the NCAA Division II National Championship in 1993.
PERFECTION ON HOMECOMING Texas A&M University-Kingsville was a perfect 7-0 against Angelo State when the Rams visited Javelina Stadium on Home-coming. Since its first homecoming game in 1931, the Javelinas are 64-14-1.
SOMETHING HAS TO GIVE Texas A&M University-Kingsville is looking to put an end to a four-game losing skid, while the Rams come off a heartbreaking 41-40 loss to No. 23 A&M-Commerce. The Lions connected on a field-goal with no time remaining to defeat Angelo State.
PINK TAPE Schools and professional teams around the country will don pink tape, gloves, cleats, laces, etc... throughout the month of Oct.in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness.
INVADED JERRY’S WORLD Texas A&M-Kingsville took an early lead but ultimately fell to Texas A&M University-Commerce in the annual Chennault Cup contest at AT&T Stadium on Sept. 20. The Javelinas lead the all-time series, 37-24-1, and hold an edge in the battle for the cup,13-5, but the Lions have earned victories in the previous three meetings. Away from the friendly confines of Javelina Stadium, TAMUK are 1-5 since the start of last season.
RETURN OF MITCHELL Trey Mitchell looks poised to return as the signal caller for the Javelinas on Saturday after sitting out two games following an injury at the 2014 Lone Star Conference Football Festival against A&M-Commerce.
The junior leads the club with six rushing touchdowns and also has two throwing touchdowns, as does Alex Rios.
WATCH OUT! Keep an eye out for the name below as the following Texas A&M-Kingsville guard has been named to these preseason watch

RUN TREY RUN! Trey Mitchell gave the Javelinas the offensive punch it was looking for as the junior quarterback rushed for 106 yards and two touchdowns in Kingsville’s 17-14 victory over Colorado Mesa on Sept. 13. The win snapped TAMUK’s nine-game losing streak and marked the first time that a player rushed for two touchdowns in a game since Sept. 21, 2013.
DEFENSE STANDS TALL IN WIN OVER MAVERICKS Texas A&M-Kingsville’s defense finished with 97 total tackles in Saturday’s victory over the Mavericks. Highlighted by seniors Henry Greathouse and Trevor Pesek’s combined 21 tackles, the defense forced six fumbles and registered four quarterback hits. The Javelinas added five sacks for 35 yards and limited the fast paced offense of the Mavericks to 6-of-17 on third-down conversions and 0-of-4 on fourth-down opportunities.
KICKING OFF? WATCH THE HOGGIES FLY With the newest NCAA Division II rankings released earlier this week, Anthony Washington is one of just three Lone Star Conference players to return a kickoff for a touchdown.
OFF TO THE RACES Anthony Washington brought the Javelina crowd to its feet in Saturday’s season opener versus Humboldt State. The redshirt senior began the second half with a 96-yard touchdown off the kickoff. As of Monday, Sept. 8, Washington was just one of 13 players to return a kickoff for a touchdown.
PITCH FAST Texas A&M-Kingsville’s first touchdown of the 2014 season came off a quick forward pitch to Jordan Thomas, who dove into the end zone for a 72-yard touchdown play against Humboldt State on Sept. 6. The touchdown was his first as a Javelina and Trey Mitchell’s first since transferring from Reedly College.
#GOBLUEBEGOLD Throughout the season, the Javelinas will use the hashtag #GoBlueBeGold to promote all 14 of their athletic programs. We encourage our fans to join us in a positive manner by using the hashtag throughout the 2014-15 campaign.
COUNT ON THE CAPTAINS Seniors Musa Mahmud, Trevor Pesek and Henry Greathouse and sophomore Greg Pitre were named captains of the 2014 Javelina squad. Mahmud averaged 12.9 yards/catch and scored three touchdowns while Pesek and Greathouse appeared in all 10 games on the defensive end of the ball in 2013.
SEEING GOLD The Sept. 6 game against Humboldt State marked Texas A&M-Kingsville’s first ever GOLD OUT game. The Javelinas wore gold jerseys to commemorate the four championship reunion teams, 1959, 1969, 1974 and 1979. All four teams earned NAIA Champion-ships and the 1979 team was inducted into the Javelina Hall of Fame on Friday, Sept. 5. The gold jerseys were auctioned off and Saturday’s season opener marked the first time in at least six decades that the Hogs wore gold uniforms.
HAIL TO THE COACH A statue and plaza honoring legendary Texas A&I head football coach, athletic director and player Gil E. Steinke stands on the south side of Javelina Stadium. Along with the statue, the landscaped plaza includes six benches recognizing the six national championship teams Steinke coached and there are paving stones sponsored by Javelina players, coaches and staff as well as alumni and fans. Steinke played for the Javelinas in 1938-41. He served with the U.S. Navy in World War II and played with the Philadelphia Eagles before an injury forced him to give up his professional career. After coaching at several colleges, he became the head coach at his alma mater in 1954. That started career that became one of the best in college football history. Steinke’s squads won six national championships, was national runnerup once and had an eighth postseason victory when the Javelinas won the 1960 Great Southwest Bowl. His teams had a 14-1 record in NAIA post-season play. The Javelinas won 10 Lone Star Conference championships in his 1954-76 coaching career. They had a 39-game winning streak intact when he stepped down as head coach after the 1976 season. In his final three seasons, Texas A&I was 13-0 in 1974, 12-0 in 1975 and 13-0 in 1976. He also had undefeated teams in 1967 (9-0-0) and 1962 (9-0-1). The 1974, 1975 and 1976 teams led the nation offensively and the 1976 squad set a national record for most yards gained during a season (6,269) and another mark for most offensive His teams were among the most traveled in the nation, at any level.

Steinke was NAIA national coach of the year four times and was American Football Coaches Association district coach of theyear twice. He was the Texas Sports Writers Association coach of the year in 1975 and was Lone Star Conference coach of the year five times. Steinke was chosen the LSC coach of the decade for the 1960s. He was a charter inductee into the College Football Hall of Fame in 1996 when it opened its doors to coaches and athlete from college division schools. Steinke was inducted into the NAIA Hall of Fame in 1971 and was a charter member of the Javelina Hall of Fame. He was inducted into the Texas Sports Hall of Fame in 1977. He retired from coaching after the 1976 season but continued as athletic director until 1982. While his record and his honors are unsurpassed, he was a pioneer in football. Steinke recruited Sid Blanks in 1960 and he became one of the first black football players at an integrated school in Texas, and one of the first in the South. Blanks served as a team captain in 1963, another first for a black player at an integrated school in the state or South. Stories of the obstacles Steinke and his teams faced in the seasons after Blanks joined the team are numerous. In the latter years of his coaching career, Steinke left the sidelines and went into the stands to call plays. “The worst place towatch a game in on the sidelines,” Steinke would say at the time. He said the press box was “too hectic”. He had a coach with him and would send the aide back and forth to the sidelines to give the coaching staff instructions.

Former Javelina All-American Jaime Martinez is in his 10th season overall as the offensive line coach and recruiting coordinator at Texas A&M-Kingsville. Martinez took over as the interim head coach on Oct. 13, 2014.
Martinez was influential in the growth of Christian Garcia as the sophomore earned All-Lone Star Conference honorable mention honors following the 2013 season. Working with a relatively new offensive line after a 2012 season that ended with an appearance in the Kanza Bowl, the Javelinas earned back-to-back victories to begin the 2013 campaign under first-year head coach David Calloway. Martinez was forced to juggle the offensive line in 2011, but he was still able to put a good product on the field. The unit blocked for a 1,000-yard rusher and an offense that averaged over 450 yards per game.
As a recruiting coordinator, Martinez helped bring in the largest class under former head coach’s Bo Atterberry’s tenure in February of 2012.
In 2010, Martinez had a trio of seniors, but had to do some mixing and matching positions due to a number of injuries. The line started the season a little slowly, but eventually melded into a strong group. They had a four game stretch where they allowed only one sack. He had two lineman named Second Team LSC South and another earn Honorable Mention honors.
Martinez had a veteran group of linemen (two seniors and three juniors) to work with in 2009 and it showed. The unit blocked for a 1,000-yard rusher and 2,500-yard passer for the first time in school history. As a group, they allowed only 14 sacks and did not allow any sacks in half of the team’s games despite the team throwing 418 passes on the season. Left guard Markeith Wesley earned Third Team Football Gazette All-America honors and left tackle Jorge Guerra earned Second Team Daktronics Super Region Four honors. Four of the five starters earned all-LSC South honors.
In 2008, Martinez’s line showed great improvement. The line provided protection for a school record setting passing offense. The team attempted 430 passes and was sacked just 22 times while averaging 298.7 yards passing per game, 12th best in the nation. Additionally, the line cleared the way for running
back Billy Martin to rush for over 150 yards on two occasions. Under Martinez’s tutelage, Markeith Wesley earned first team LSC South and second team All-Region honors and Jorge Guerra grabbed honorable mention LSC South honors.
In 2007, Martinez molded a group of young players and newcomers into a cohesive unit.
In 2006 Martinez coached yet another offensive lineman to All-America honors as John Cook earned first team All-America honors from the American Football Coaches Association.
In 2005 two of his linemen earned All-Lone Star Confer-ence honors. James Cardenas was named second team All-LSC, while Van Nelson earned honorable mention honors.
Martinez, a native of nearby Beeville, was a standout for the Javelinas from 1992-95 on the offensive line. He was a two-time All-Lone Star Conference selection. He earned first team All-America honors as a junior and senior. The Javelinas won four Lone Star Conference Championships, went 21-0 in LSC play, posted a 39-13 overall record, advanced to the NCAA Division II semifinals three times and advanced to the NCAA championship game once.
Prior to returning to Kingsville he spent five years as the offensive line and special teams coach at Granger High School. He also served as the offensive line coach at Medina Valley High School in Castroville.
He is married to the former Marisa Fancher of Albany, Ore., a former Javelina volleyball player. They have a daughter, Maya and a son, Rylee and reside in Bishop, Texas.
