-WELCOME- This is IT2 will provide you with a hands-on and engaging environment to learn and

collaborate with your peers while learning about the newest technologies supporting Education Technology today. We have branded our conference to highlight the focus and the reason that we assemble each year, This is IT2 really needs no explanation once defined, This is Instructional Technology and Information Technology. The conference will continue to be focused on inspiring and enhancing collaboration among educational and administrative staff in our districts as it always has with anticipation that what you learn during the conference will carry forward as experiences you share and build upon with your colleagues and peers.

This year’s conference is putting a spotlight on the fundamentals of Technology Integration in support of 21st Century Learning. We are privileged to have Rob Mancabelli, CEO of BightBytes as our keynote speaker. Rob and several area technology leaders will also be serving as a panel in one of our four Focus Sessions, new this year. Focus sessions are designed to highlight four of our featured speakers on some of the most relevant topics in Instructional and Information Technology today!

This conference is for you, and this year even more by you! I would like to thank all of the local presenters that proposed sessions this year, it is great to see some our region’s talent shown off during the conference. We will also be incorporating social networking into the conference as much as possible this year. Join the backstage conversations before, during and after the conference on Twitter by using “#swwc2014” in your comments. This hashtag will automatically categorize your comments with others related to the conference in the twitter.

On behalf of the entire staff of the SW/WC Service Cooperative Technology Department, who worked diligently to put this conference together, we hope to see you in Marshall on March 13 and 14, 2014!

Cancellation Policy

Cancelations must be received by 4:30 PM on March 7, 2014 to qualify for a full refund. After March 7, 2014 all registrations are final and no refunds will be issued. Substitution of attendees from the same district or organization will be allowed up to the day of the conference.

-THIS AND THAT- The doors will open at 8:00 AM on March 14 for Registration and the Exhibit Hall. When you arrive you can enter the Centers at Southwest Minnesota State University through the doors located directly west of Parking Lot A-1. Parking permits are not required for the day. When registering for the conference, please note two registration options. The first is Fish for dinner as the conference will be taking place on a Friday during Lent. The second option is “Do not share my information with vendors”. If you wish to be excluded from contact information lists shared with our conference exhibitors you must mark this option during registration. A Demo Lab and Social Media Booth with the latest in trending technologies will be setup at the conference with demos and hands-on will be presented throughout the day in an informal format. This is also a great place to stop and put out a quick shout-out to your social media followers by using our Social Media Photo Booth and other cool tools! In an effort to conserve resources, handouts for our sessions will be available online only through our conference Schoology site. Each breakout session will contain a poster displaying the Schoology access key for the session, which will contain any information the presenter would like to share with you and provide a point of interaction for each breakout session. A Schoology account will be required to access session resources. To make the best use of your conference time, sign up for your free Schoology account prior to the event by visiting www.schoology.com For easiest parking for the Pre-Conference, attendees are asked to park in front of the Market Street Mall and use the Central, Front Entrance of the building. Directional signs will be placed throughout the building to direct you to our offices for the Pre-Conference. The rules associated with the E-rate program place strict limitations on the giving and receipt of gifts by school district personnel from current or potential future service providers. SW/WC urges vendors for school district personnel to refrain from such practices. The acceptance and distribution of gifts at this conference is the sole responsibility of vendors and conference attendees and SW/WC Service Cooperative shall have no responsibility or liability for the actions of vendors and participants.

The target audiences are identified by the presenters, but if you find a session that is still of interest but your position is not listed in the target audience key, don’t sweat it, our sessions are meant to meet your personal interests. Sessions identified with a target audience that includes “Technology Department Staff” is inclusive of Technology Director/Coordinators, Technology Integration Facilitators, and Other Technology Department Staff Members attending the conference.

-KEYNOTE- Rob Mancabelli, CEO

BrightBytes – San Francisco, California

A dynamic and engaging speaker, Rob Mancabelli describes in vivid detail how technology is dramatically changing the way teachers and students learn in the 21st Century, and he outlines specific ways educators can make these changes happen in their schools. Rob has spent over a decade developing 21st-Century learning environments. He’s the co-author of Personal Learning Networks: Using the Power of Connections to Transform Education, and he writes a column for District Administration magazine. Rob also inspires audiences with insights into 21st-Century learning, strategies for engaging stakeholders, and methods for transforming organizations.

Rob’s expertise comes from a deep background in education, planning, and leadership. He received his MBA in innovation and global leadership

from MIT and earned his international certification as a Project Management Professional (PMP). Rob worked in public and private schools for fifteen years, as a teacher and then technology director, directing dozens of large-scale projects that used technology to improve learning outcomes. He served on the state-level task force for New Jersey High School Redesign, and he was chosen by Apple as one of the first five K-12 content contributors to ITunes University. Rob serves on the Educational Advisory Boards of Dell Computer and Acer Corporation, and he is a columnist for leading education publications

-FEATURED SPEAKERS- This Year’s Featured Speakers will highlight some of the emerging topics within Technology Integration. From classroom teachers, to K -12 technology leaders, Technology Integration is no longer an option, technology must be adopted and integrated in education just as it has been in our students’ lives. Technology Integration is an essential skill and function that every school district’s technology department must possess and support and every educator must adopt! Marty Brandl – High School Mathematics Teacher Marshall Public High School; Marshall, Minnesota

Marty Brandl is a math teacher at Marshall High School. He is in his eleventh year teaching, including four years teaching online. With that experience, Marty works hard to blend the benefits of a traditional classroom along with utilizing technology tools. One of Marty's projects has been creating videos for students to use in his classes. These videos are posted on YouTube and have received nearly 2 million views from around the world. Marty's website, www.mrbrandl.com, serves as the home of his various online and in-person educational endeavors. Marty is also a recipient of the WEM Foundation’s Outstanding Educator Award for 2013 for outstanding accomplishments and contributions to student learning, accomplished through the aid of his passion to effectively integrate technology to motivate student participation and achievement in his classes.

Kara Damm – Technology Integration Specialist SW/WC Service Cooperative; Marshall, Minnesota

For the past two years, Kara Damm has been a Technology Integration Specialist with the SW/WC Service Cooperative. Kara currently leads technology integration initiatives for five school districts in Southwest and West Central Minnesota. She also provides trainings on 1:1, iPads, Windows 8, Schoology, SMART Boards, Google Drive, LearnPads, and much more. Prior to working at the SW/WC, Kara was a teacher and technology coordinator for the Murray County Central Schools in Slayton, MN for 10 years. She has presented at the South Dakota TIE Conference, TIES Conference, This is IT2 Conference and several workshops throughout Minnesota. Kara has a love of technology and loves to learn new ways to integrate technology into the classroom. Kara earned her Computer Science in Education, B.A. from Dakota State University in Madison, SD.

Marc Johnson – Executive Director East Central Minnesota Educational Cable Cooperative ; Braham, Minnesota

Marc Johnson is in his sixth year as the Executive Director of East Central Minnesota Educational Cable Cooperative (ECMECC), a telecommunications and technology cooperative of 14 K-12 school districts and one technical college in East Central Minnesota. Previous to this role, he spent two years as technology director for Independent School District 15, St. Francis, MN, and seven years as an instructional technology specialist for the Saint Croix River Education District in Rush City, MN. Marc also taught middle and high school mathematics for eight years and has taught numerous college technology courses.

In 2008 Jon began supporting and encouraging staff of the ECMECC schools as they

integrate affective technology practices into their daily activities. He actively

supports Moodle, Google, personal devices, video conferencing, and many emerging

educational technologies. Prior to joining ECMECC Jon spent 14 years as the

Media\Technology Director at Ogilvie Public School providing technical direction and

support while building the network infrastructure. He also guided staff and students

in the proper use of media resources, production, evaluation, and management.

Mary Mehsikomer is a Technology Integration Development and Outreach

Facilitator at TIES. She is an experienced trainer, program administrator, and

education technology consultant. Mary designs and delivers professional

development for teachers and administrators and represents TIES on several boards

and committees. Prior to TIES, Mary managed NW-LINKS, a telecommunications

region of 70 school districts in northwestern Minnesota. Mary also worked in the

Minnesota Department of Education where she guided school district technology

planning and funding initiatives. Mary is a Certified Education Technology Leader

(CETL) through CoSN.

Holly Martin Huffman, Head Librarian; Marshall Lyon-County Public Library Librarians need to be a part of the technology being used because we are doing really important things in our communities! From Digital Commons to Open Labs, take a virtual tour with us of some great education and public libraries. You will get firsthand accounts of librarian initiatives here in Southwest Minnesota. We will suggest ways libraries can offer space and time for creative work with graphic or web design software and other exciting digital tools. Librarians as educators are playing a critical role in helping us all develop fluency with information and content creation. Librarians are transforming libraries for their communities. We will take a virtual tour of some great education and public libraries helping to meet work and life goals as community centers of conversation, innovation, and literacy both face-to-face and virtual. You will also get some firsthand accounts of librarian innovations here in Southwest Minnesota. Tricia Walker, Instructional Technology Coordinator; Watertown, SD School District Class Dojo is a free website offering an easy-to-use behavior management tool that combines real-time data, individualized reports; lots of creativity; fun! In this session we will introduce you to Dojo basics and share ways this program might shape your instruction.

Session 201 The Impact of Technology on Learning – The CASE for Measurement Target Audience: All Attendees Presented by Rob Mancabelli, CEO; Brightbytes Over 100 billion dollars is spent on educational technology each year in the United States alone, but a recent study from the Center for American Progress states that very few districts have access to any tools that measure technology’s impact on learning. This session will provide educational leaders with an open-sourced, specific, research framework to measure the impact of technology on learning, complete with case studies and examples. The framework is called CASE, and it's everything you need to know to "steer the ship" of 21st Century Learning. Session 204 Stream Your Events Live Target Audience: All Attendees Presented by Jon Larson, Technology Integration Coach; ECMECC There are as many ways to live stream your event as there are events for you to stream. Ustream, Eduvision, Google Hangouts Live, YouTube Live, Dropcam, and Kaltura just to name a few. The quality, services, ease of use and price varies greatly depending on the type of equipment, amount of advertising and many other factors. We will explore many streaming options, what equipment is required, cost factors and what copyright issues you need to consider, before you go live to the world. Session 205 Screencasting, it is for more than flipping Target Audience: Teachers; Technology Integrationists; Technology Department Staff Presented by Barry Fischer, Coordinator of Teacher Education; Worthington Public Schools Everyone knows tools such as Jing, Screencast-0-matic, and Camtasia are great for flipping your classroom and creating presentations; but have you thought of other ways to use them.
