It is with great pleasure that I have agreed to be a
Sainsbury’s Cornwall School Games Ambassador for the Cornwall Sports Partnership. After being part of Team GB at the 2012 Paralympics in London and experiencing an Olympic Games at the top level it is great to see that Cornwall has its own mini version and even includes Disability Table Tennis! I am sure these games will inspire pupils from all over Cornwall to take up sport and represent their school and you never know they might unearth the next Cornish Olympic athlete!
David Wetherill
ProfileDavid first started playing Table Tennis aged 10, when he went along to the Table Tennis club at his local village hall. He cites his parents as the most important influence in his life; both are PE teachers and his Dad sometimes acts as coach. David competed at the Beijing 2008 Paralympic Games, where he beat the former champion by a comfortable margin to reach the final eight.
On his second appearance for ParalympicsGB in London, David competed in the preliminary rounds of the men’s Singles class 6 event.
Alongside his many sporting achievements, David also graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Biological Chemistry from the University of Sheffield in 2011.

Each school is responsible for the safeguarding, health and safety of their teams. Both event and sport specific first aid will be provided on the competition site.
Parental consent and county education visit forms are the responsibility of the individual school. Staff leading teams need to know their students. If they are not familiar with the children and there are any concerns about students in a team, the school needs to inform the Team Manager about the associated risks of being responsible for that child(ren).
Event Management, Safeguarding and Health and Safety
Schools are therefore responsible for their own child protection & safeguarding of their students attending the day. They need to follow their own school child protection procedures if they have any concerns about the child at an activity.
Each site will have a designated Site Lead Officer and safeguarding & child protection lead on the day that can be contacted by Team Managers if needed.

London 2012 Test Event 2011 World Championships 2010 World Tour 2009 European Tour
Biography:
Lucy has always had a passion for sport throughout school, college and University. She would try her hand at anything but it was by chance that she came across volleyball at school. She moved through the ranks quickly, gaining her first full international cap aged 17.
She made the switch to beach volleyball three years later in 2006 because she saw more opportunities to progress on to the World Stage. She has competed regularly on the FIVB World Tour and the CEV European Tour, with her top finishes being 13th and 4th respectively.
Lucy also competed in the World Championships in 2009 but the highlight of her career came in 2011 at the London 2012 Test Event at Horse Guards Parade where she beat the number one Chinese pair to go through to the semi-finals.
As a Sport England Sporting Champion, Lucy is passionate about inspiring young people to take up sport and to raise their own aspirations through sport.
We would like to thank Sporting Champions for their support of the 2014 Cornwall School Games.
