DESIGN AND LANDSCAPE INTEGRATION OF THE NEW INCINERATOR “I CIPRESSI” | FLORENCE | 2011-2013

The design of an incinerator is an important challenge in the professional � eld. The project has indeed to be oriented to ethical and aesthetic sustainability. The main purpose has been the de� ning of a sustainable and recognizable architecture, with industrial features and a contemporary design. In our idea the new incinerator must become a re-source for the territory. The project moved on two levels: the design of a general layout of the spaces and the proper design of the architectural form, in order to obtain a syn-thetic composition in harmony with the sur-rounding landscape. The main purposes of sustainability and quality have been applied by reducing the environmental impact of the buildings, by giving them a recognizable and compact shape and by the social sharing of the aesthetic and functional features of the new architecture.

GRAPHIC DESIGN FOR THE GREEN AREAS OF THE NEW AMUSEMENT PARK “CINECITTA’ WORLD” | ROME | 2013 |

The contract involved the edition of the graph-ic design of the green areas for the new amuse-ment park “Cinecittà World” in Rome, in order to make it more easily understandable for the o� cial presentation of the project. The work was done by with a realistic interpretation of the future con� guration of the open spaces and the green areas of the Park, with graph-ics that might be the most simple and easy to read, highlighting the quantity and quality of the green areas of the park, di� cult to perceive through the only technical drawings.

DESIGN FOR THE PRIVATE GARDEN OF “LE MURICCE” FARM AT GREVE IN CHIANTI | FLORENCE | 2012-2014

The project concerned the re-design of the open spaces of the tuscan farm “Le Muricce” in Chianti after the change of the own-ership. The design included a new swimming pool, a � ower gar-den designed on di� erent ground levels, new outdoor stony � oors and the arrangement of the open spaces around the new winery. All the interventions were made in concord with the surrounding landscape and were approved by the local gov-ernment. The project is partially built and partially currently under construction.

DESIGN OF 4 VIEWPOINTS IN THE NATIONAL PARK OF APPENNINO TOSCO-EMILIANO | LUCCA-MASSA | 2012-14

The design of the 4 Viewpoints of the National Park of Appennino Tosco-Emiliano is one of the lead actions to give evidence of the most outstanding features of the Park. The Viewpoints, recently built, are: “Porta delle Pievi” in Sorano, “Porta dei Cavalieri” in Comano, “Porta dei Castelli” in San Romano, and “Porta of Pania”. Each viewpoint is located either in panoramic overlooks with striking views, or in places where history, religion and landscape assume a key role for the lo-cal identity. The design criteria have been the simplicity of the for-mal language, the modularity and the � exibility of the solutions. The viewpoints are recognizable by an identifying element, the “Bilite”: a wooden structure with information about the Park and facilities to rest and enjoy the landscape.

LANDSCAPE DESIGN OF THE WATERFRONT PARK “IL PROLUNGAMENTO” | SAVONA | 2011

The project is part of a broader integrated plan for the redevelopment of the public spaces and the waterfronts of the city of Savona. The Wa-terfront Park of Prolungamento is an important place for the identity of the city, for its direct connections with the beach and the sea and for the proximity to the historical fortress of Priamar. The project has been a challenge to give back to the city a central urban waterfront, in the full respect for the history and the identity of the place. The project enhances the identifying features of the site by proposing new uses, enhancing the current uses, creating a new meeting place and giving a gradual transition between the city and the seaside.

LANDSCAPE DESIGN TENDER FOR THE RENOVATION OF TWO CENTRAL SQUARES IN COMO | COMO | 2014

The project proposal aims to redevelop the two central squares in Como by enhancing the connection among the di� erent open spaces, and by evoking the history of the city with the use of signs and symbols. The landscape architecture composition’s objective is to make these places livable, pleasant and attrac-tive both for tourists and inhabitants. We aim to respect the his-torical and monumental character as well as the daily use of the squares. The use of urban furniture and vegetation makes the space more pleasant and comfortable, inviting people to stay. The urban space is conceived to be free and � exible, and it’s thought to be used daily and for special events, such as square markets, expositions etc.

LANDSCAPE DESIGN TENDER FOR THE RENOVATION OF THE BUSSA OVERPASS | MILAN | 2014

The urban renovation of the Bussa overpass in Milan has been the sub-ject of several charrettes. The point of view of the citizens and their participation are essential to the success of the project. Therefore, the proposal is a � exible design in which di� erent points of view are de-clined in relation to the context and to the di� erent users. The design on multiple levels creates multifunctional spaces and di� erent points of view to enjoy the landscape. The project proposes solutions to cre-ate an integrated system of places and functions, o� ering to the user the perception of being inside an ever-changing and living space.

LANDSCAPE DESIGN TENDER “CERTALDO CHE VORREI ” CERTALDO | SIENA | 2013

The theme of the competition was the urban renovation of the Strada Statale 429 and of two squares in the city center of Certaldo. The design is based on the necessity to re-sew and re-connect the articulated system of spaces in relation to the broader urban context and landscape of Certaldo. In accord with this need, the design idea has pursued the purpose through the use of minutes el-ements of urban quality (vegetation, horizontal surfaces, detail items, urban furniture, etc.), in the belief that this design approach is able to give back an identity to a place that is waiting for a new con� guration after the reduction of vehicular tra� c.

DESIGN COMPETITION FOR NEW A BIKE PATH ON THE ROCKY WATERFRONT OF LAVAGNA | GENOVA | 2013

The project proposal aims to de� ne more than a cycle/pedestrian path to join two coastal municipalities of ex-traordinary beauty. It is rather thought as a resource for the infrastructure system, for the environment and for the sur-rounding landscape. The proposal aims to characterize and give a new quality to the entire site of the Genoa “Levante”. The project bases its strength on its care and attention to the context and to the landscape potential of the site, in which the project lies and accords to the shapes, enhancing and exalting the landscape. The strength of the sea and the rock becomes a whole, blending with the project lines and originating a new landscape.

LANDSCAPE DESIGN TENDER “VERSO IL LAGO”, MASSACIUCCOLI LAKE | LUCCA | 2011

The “Piaggetta” area in Massaciuccoli is the core of many spatial relations. It’s the place where di� erent landscapes merge, a strip of land where the lake environment is connected with the agricultural landscape, with the small villages and the hillside in the background. The proposed measures are “grafted” on the path towards the lake, and they aim to explain, through a series of suggestions, the surrounding landscape. The grafts are an invi-tation to dialogue with the landscape, discovering and contemplating it with new points of view. The shapes and the materials evoke the traditional elements of the site, reinterpreted with new functions and interactions.

LANDSCAPE DESIGN TENDER FOR A NEW BIKE PATH TO THE SEASIDE IN SANT’ANNA ARRESI | CAGLIARI | 2011

As a plot, the landscape is derived from the interactions of people with their territory. The plot is the main theme of the proposal, becoming an allegory of the landscape itself. The open spaces crossed by the new cycle path are linked to the agriculture activities of the inland, they are bounded to the sea and yet always separated from it. The project aims to reconnect the di� erent landscapes, by linking the ponds with the � elds and the shore, revealing the values of the place as the plot of a story. The project becomes indeed an op-portunity to mend up the broken pieces of this rich and complex system.

The project proposal, which resulted among the winners of the International Competition organized by the City of Florence, aimed at dif-ferent goals. On one hand we aimed to obtain a high functionality, with a versatile design and modular solutions, able to easily adapt to the di� erent architectural styles of the historical center of Florence. On the other hand the proj-ect won the challenge of combining a contem-porary design to the highly historicized context of the UNESCO center of Florence, through the use of curved lines, transparent materials with low visual impact, and recalls to the monumen-tal architecture of the city.

LANDSCAPE DESIGN COMPETITION FOR THE RECOVERY OF THE FORMER ITAL SIDER STEEL PLANT | NAPLES | 2010

The Urban Park of Bagnoli is located in the area of a former steel plant, and it is emerging as one of the main actions to recon� gure the landscape of the plain of Bagnoli, giving a new identity to a huge and disoriented place. The park plays a central role in the new system of urban relationships with the town. The proposal aims to be an ordering element, a space of connection within the great void of the former steel plant. The design of the � rst batch mainly concerns three major areas; the square of archeology, the rose garden and the tree-lined meadows.
