Message from the Chief Nursing ExecutiveI am pleased and honored to present the Advocate BroMenn Medical Center 2014 nursing services annual report. This report brings to life the professionalism and commitment of our nurses and our interdisciplinary team members whose dedication, spirit and continual display of high-quality patient care are testaments to the remarkable clinicians and leaders they truly are. In the following

pages, you will find accomplishments that are both impressive and impactful, emphasizing advances in patient-centered care, professional growth and development, and compassion for our community. In 2014, we sharpened our focus on eliminating healthcare-associated conditions such as infections, pressure ulcers and falls. A commitment to the elevation of nursing professional practice was demonstrated through increased professional certifications, clinical ladder advancement, achievement of advanced degrees, and the continued pursuit of excellence. I am proud of our nurses and interdisciplinary partners who’ve led initiatives to improve the patient experience and clinical outcomes by incorporating evidence-based practice into the care they provide to our patients and their families. These accomplishments represent the impact of a strong infrastructure, processes and outcomes that support our ongoing Magnet journey, a formal, recognized measure of organizational excellence. This report aligns accomplishments with the Magnet model components of Transformational Leadership, Structural Empowerment, Exemplary Professional Practice, and New Knowledge, Innovations, and Improvements. Moving forward in 2015, we will continue to strengthen the participation of our front-line associates in shared governance, identify best practices for our patients, and continue on our journey to become a high reliability organization committed first and foremost to patient safety. Plans are in place to encourage and support professional development and growth in an effort to enhance patient care and our profession. We will continue to face the challenges of a changing healthcare environment knowing we are poised for continued success. Please take the time to celebrate our outstanding achievements in 2014! It is a privilege to serve as your Chief Nursing Officer. Thank you, BroMenn nurses and interdisciplinary partners, for what you do for every patient and every family, every day…you are the ones who make the difference.

Message from the President to our NursesAs I look back on 2014, we have a lot to celebrate! It was a phenomenal year both for Advocate Health Care as a system and locally for Advocate BroMenn Medical Center. I am so proud of our accomplishments as an organization, and so very thankful for our outstanding team of associ-ates who played such a pivotal role in helping us achieve these results.

It was a year where we saw improvement in every area that we measure, showing the significant impact that tools like hourly rounding, AIDET and bedside shift reporting can have. All of you played a key role in helping us exceed our goal for health outcomes by creating a safer environ-ment for our patients and providing the best care possible. Our patient satisfaction scores have reflected this, with steady increases in nearly all areas. It was also rewarding to see our physicians recognize the strong nursing staff at BroMenn, providing very high marks for nursing skill in their annual survey.

In a complex and ever-changing health care environment, we’re both growing and gaining market share – something that would be impossible without your dedication and hard work. And while the health care landscape continues to be challenging, it’s also exciting and promises new opportu-nities for innovation in the way we care for our community.

I want you to know that you are doing incredible work for our health care ministry and are making a profound difference in the lives of our patients. Thank you for all that you do. It is truly a privilege to work alongside each and every one of you!
