STUDENTS AND HOT WEATHER
RETURN FOR 2014 The start of the 2014 school year was hot in many ways! Well done to our
staff and students for not just a great start to the school year but for dealing
with the hot weather in a ‘cool’ manner. It looks like the hot weather will be
around for quite awhile yet.
All classrooms at KPPS are air-conditioned. Some areas work better than
others, if rooms become too hot, then we have areas like the activity room,
library and upstairs work areas where classes can move to for relief from the
heat. We have been waiting for a long time to have new air conditioning
placed in the southern unit. If you have any concerns about the cooling (or
heating) in this building then we suggest that you voice your concerns.
On days with excessive heat, recess and lunch breaks are shortened and
students are requested to play in the shade. It is important to empty rooms
for a short period of time to refresh and cool the air.
We recommend that all students have a drink bottle with water, hats must
be worn in the yard at all times and we encourage parents to apply 8 hour
sunscreen to their children before departing for school each morning.

“Focused on building relationships and laying the foundations for a successful year of learning”
A GREAT START!
CHANGES TO OUR NEWSLETTER
Day one of the 2014 school year
has been one of the smoothest
for many years. Staff were in
rooms looking forward to the
arrival of their students,
everyone knew where to go and
most parents appeared either
happy or relived that the school
term had kicked off! The
atmosphere around our school
has been positive, focused on
building relationships and laying
the foundations for a successful
year of learning.
All staff teams have developed
new Well-being units of work
based around our 21st Century
learning skills to ensure students
understand the qualities of a
successful learner and how to
build positive relationships

GOVERNING COUNCIL INVITATION
If you are considering joining the school Governing Council for 2014, or have already nominated, we invite you to attend our final meeting of the 2013 committee, which is being held tomorrow evening (Thursday 6th Feb) at 7pm in the library.
It will be a great chance to learn what Governing Council is all about, and also have some input to planning for the 2014 school year.
