Thirty-one high schoolers and six advisors will leave for the Belize International Mission Trip on June 20. Please keep
this group in your prayers.
Final preparations are being made for the high school mission trip, June 20-27. On May 18, students and advisors gathered for a team building exercise and meeting. Our high schoolers were divided into teams, blindfolded and given instructions on putting a tent together by a leader who was not blindfolded, but could not touch anything! Needless to say the results were hilarious but the high schoolers learned how to work together as a unit to get the job done, a skill they will need to utilize in Belize! We thank Sardis for all the support given to this mission trip and we ask for your continued prayers for the Belizeans we are serving and for our high schoolers and advisors who are going to serve. A student, who went on the last international trip to Jamaica, told advisor Doug Banks, “Jamaica was the best week of my life!”
On a beautiful spring afternoon, high schoolers participated in the Give One Day church outreach at the home of Sardis member, Sarah Gardner! Our high schoolers have really enjoyed getting to know Sarah, who turned 97 on May 20, and have learned so much cleaning her yard and hearing the colorful stories of her life!
The Effects of Alcohol
Officer Michael Champion is a Sardis member and the police liaison at Providence High School. With his trademark witty personality, he effectively talked to the high schoolers about the dangers of alcohol consumption, drinking and driving and being responsible. High schoolers donned ‘drunk goggles’ and tried to put puzzles together and walk the line. There was frank discussion about the realities our high schoolers face now and in their future with issues concerning alcohol. Officer Champion thoughtfully and honestly answered the several questions asked by our students. We thank him for coming and sharing his expertise from many years on the force and being in the school system. It was an impactful time of sharing.

Do you ever wonder where your money goes after you drop it in the offering plate?
On May 11, we recognized 21 young people who went through our Confirmation
class. Two of them were baptized. What an exciting day as we fulfilled the call of
our Lord to go forth and make disciples. Your pledge to the 2014 church budget
helped make this possible. How? By providing the financial resources necessary to
support one of the outstanding Confirmation programs in the city. Sometimes we
wonder what difference it makes when we pledge or place a few dollars in the offering. If you were here on May
11, you now know the impact of your financial support.
As I shared in worship, this is an amazing group of young people, and if you ever have doubts about the next
generation, don’t. My weekend retreat with the confirmation class in May assured me that the future of Sardis is in
good hands. So if you need your confidence lifted or your hopes renewed, take a little time to get to know our
terrific youth. -Tom
