The Amarillo College Foundation Mission:The Amarillo College Foundation, Inc. exists to solicit and

administer gifts and grants for the benefit of Amarillo College, its students, faculty and staff, its programs and facilities.

The Presidential Scholars Program offers an international travel experience for every first-year

scholar. A significant Scholars Travel award ensures the Scholars pay only $500 for the excursion.

Scholars are responsible for obtaining passports and completing all necessary paperwork and forms.

A semester of historical, political and cultural study precedes each excursion. Following immersion

within a new culture, students have the opportunity to reflect on what they have learned and to

share their experiences through presentations at Amarillo College, area high schools and in

numerous civic venues.

In 2015, the Honors students traveled to Nepal and India based on the Common Reader book

Blue Hole Back Home.

Dear Friends and Supporters of the Amarillo College Foundation,

I am pleased to report that the Foundation year from September 1, 2014 to August 31, 2015 was highlighted by a robust stock market, robust fundraising, and robust energy! Our endowment grew to over $34mm and we were able to provide unprecedented support to Amarillo College and its students.

Two years of serving as the Foundation Chair and observing the Board of Regents and the college leadership team in action is certainly energizing.

Toward the end of the Foundation year, Foundation Co-Executive Directors;Tracy Dougherty and Kathy Dowdy along with President Russell Lowery-Hart, incoming chair Paul Clark and I attended a Community College Advancement seminar in California—all for the purpose of learning current strategies for fundraising for community colleges.

In February 2016, the Board of Regents appointed me as Executive Vice President and General Counsel of Amarillo College. This means that I have the privilege of working full time at the College and intend to spend most of my time prioritizing the College’s needs and working with the Foundation to raise money to make PHILANTHROPY a major part of the college’s plan!

Our Foundation board is the envy of non-profit boards in our community because it is composed of the most energetic, influential and committed volunteers I have ever seen. The role of the board will expand and I predict that the support for our beloved college and students will sky-rocket, with your help. Please welcome Paul Clark as the new chairman of the AC Foundation Board. We couldn’t have done better and I look forward to working with him and the board in the future as we look at the needs of the college, students, faculty and programs.

My office on the campus is right next to the Foundation office – in fact, a door connects the two! Come by and visit me, and hold on to your seats for the greatest year ahead for both the Foundation and Amarillo College.

Lifetime Philanthropists

The Amarillo College Board of Regents in 1961 believed a foundation would benefit the college, its students, faculty and programs. On January 23, 1962, Regents adopted the Articles of Incorporation of the Amarillo College Foundation, Inc. President A. B. Martin announced the first gift of $2,500 from Scott Lumber Company to be used as a faculty emergency loan fund. Those who have made cumulative gifts of $2,500 or more become Lifetime philanthropists, one of the highest forms of recognition Amarillo College and The Amarillo College Foundation can bestow. Donors are recognized in this report for cumulative gifts. We acknowledge our donors both living and deceased.

Dr. Bud Joyner became the 10th president of Amarillo College in 1992 and served in that capacity until 1999. He returned as interim president in 2002-2003.

AC grew and prospered under Joyner’s leadership, and the Bud Joyner Fellows Program originated as a means of honoring his past service. At the same time, it will enhance student-assistance funding at the College.

The Foundation Finance & Investment Committee oversees a diversified portfolio of high qualify fixed income and equity assets. Working with an investment consultant and diversified fund managers, the Foundation realized total investment loss in 2014-2015 of ($957,142).
