• Basic features – Commercially available

– Consists of five pump wavelengths distributed in the spectral range between

1420 and 1500 nm

– Uses polarization balanced and wavelength multiplexed laser diodes

(RIN < -105 dB/HZ)

– Total pump power < 1.8 W

– Uses commercial high power connector (Diamond, E2000PS) to connect

span

• LRA: (Wide-band) Lumped (discrete) Raman Amplifier – LRA-2 provides average -670 ps/nm pre-dispersion compensation.

• 100G channels: 120 Gbit/s PM-QPSK (15% overhead, 6.4 dB Q SD-FEC threshold)

• BER is measured by 100G line card with real-time ASIC processing.

• Forward and backward distributed Raman: commercial Nu-Wave OptimaTM SE24 with HP extension

• Spans consist of Corning® Vascade® EX200 fiber (G.654B). – Effective area : 112 µm2

– Total Length : 409.6 km (68.2 dB, 0.167 dB/km)

– ROPA consists of 16 m erbium and is placed at 120.9 Km form RX

• Input signals (LRA-2 out) – Channels are pre-emphasized to provide flat Q over spectrum at receive side.

– Average power into span: -2.8 dBm/ch

• After line (LRA-3 in), at receiver (LRA-3 out) – Negligible OSNR degradation between LRA-3 in and out

– Ripple (~ 10 dB) is flattened by WSS.

– Average OSNR: 14.2 dB

• Measured / simulated OSNR and measured Q of 150 channels – Simulation shows good match with the measurement.

– Average OSNR: 14.2 dB

– Average Q: 7.0 dB (All channels are above Q FEC threshold – 6.4 dB)

• 16-hours stability test – For selected 3 channels (1533.47 nm, 1561.42 nm and 1590.41 nm)

– Error free after SD-FEC for 16 hours

• 15 Tb/s (150 x 120 Gbit/s) unrepeatered transmission over 409.6 km of G.654B fiber – Corning® Vascade® EX2000, span loss of 68.2 dB

– Record Capacity x Reach: 6.14 Pbit/s-km

• Unrepeatered transmission with channel growth up to 150 x 120 Gbit/s – System does not need loading channels.

– System provides more margin for lower capacity.

• Results provide practical solution for the deployment of new systems with ultra-high capacity. – Span consists of single fiber type (G.654B).

– Achieved with commercial DWDM system which includes production Raman

pump modules and 100G channel cards
