A Message from the CEO~ Merle Lacert
Hello Members,
The Prince Albert & District Chamber of Commerce is completing
efforts to engage on several matters that have been a priority for
our members. These include releasing our recommendations on
improving Prince Albert’s tax model for commercial business. All
members should be receiving a copy of these recommendations
very shortly. Please review and offer any feedback. The
recommendations focuses not only on strengthening the
communications and collaboration for defining a strong tax model
that is Timely, Transparent and Competitive, but also highlights the
critical importance of our community completing or updating
many critical short & long term plans, such as our “Community
Plan”.
The Chamber is also looking to continue efforts in regards to
labour shortages in our region. This fall, we will look to host a
second Round Table discussion on the specific challenges of
recruitment, retention and training facing our region. Please watch
for further details, or contact the chamber office with any thoughts
or questions.
We have many great upcoming luncheons and activities which
would be of interest to many, as members I encourage you
to assist in expanding the engagement and benefits that these
events hold, by inviting any non chamber members to these
events. Please remember, everyone is welcome to attend the
majority of our luncheons and events. Hope to see you at a
upcoming event.
After 13 years, the Prince Albert & District
Chamber of Commerce Christmas Ornament
program has come to a end.
Due to the rising costs of the ornaments, the
Chamber will look for other ways to continue our
support of the Victoria Hospital Foundation. We
are proud to have contributed over $11,000.00 to the Victoria
Hospital foundation from previous ornament sale proceeds.

Robert Bratvold
Robert grew up in a family that owned and operated a business in a small southwest Saskatchewan town and he
has seen both the challenges of operating a business and the value that business brings to a community. He has
seen the financial and employment benefits that business bring, but he also recognizes that there are so many
more contributions businesses make to the fabric of a community beyond the monetary ones.
As a teacher, school administrator and father of five children Robert was involved in his community in various
ways. Supporting music and cultural events was one way that he was involved and he also enjoyed coaching
many school sports and community soccer teams as well. Part of his community involvement included building
connections between community organizations, the school and the business community. He has been
consistently impressed by people’s willingness to give of their time and resources to build partnerships that
support the community, and especially those that provide opportunities for young people.
In July 2011 he moved to Prince Albert as the Director of Education for the Saskatchewan Rivers Public School
Division, and in September he began attending Chamber events and seeing the work the Chamber does for the
Page 12
community. Although his involvement is recent, Robert looks forward to serving on the board
and connecting the work of the business community to the work of the schools. There are so
many opportunities that he sees in those partnerships that can benefit businesses, students and
the community.
Robert looks forward to continuing his work with members of the board and with all members of the Chamber for the years to come.

which reaches out to the men and women of this community.
Ian Litzenberger

working in various sales positions throughout the province, Ian and Shyla decided to open The
Medicine Shoppe Pharmacy in April 2011 where they could focus on providing one on one
personal care that they always envisioned a pharmacy to be. As well as co-owner of The
Medicine Shoppe Pharmacy, Ian also works as a sales representative for Power 99fm here in the
city.
Away from work, Ian enjoys playing slo-pitch, the odd round of golf, spending time with his son
on the soccer field, in the dance studio with his daughter or just relaxing with the entire family
at the lake.
