What is jobscout?

jobscout, available at myjobscout.org and for iOS in the iTunes Store,is a web and mobile application designed to help get people back towork by teaching jobseekers the digital literacy skills they need tofind a job and providing essential job seeking tools.

Through the use of game design, jobscout teaches basic Internetskills by:

• Engaging users in self-paced online activities that focus on teaching Internet use skills;

• Providing tools that help the user streamline and manage their job search;

• Assisting users in mastering these skills in order to apply online for a job; and

• Enabling users to network on and offline.

What is jobscout?

jobscout uniquely addresses the problem of unemployment by teaching users the Internet skills needed to successfully search for a job.

The jobscout platform uses interactive lessons and games to develop these skills in a scalable, cost-effective way. jobscout aims to:

• Help users access online resources for job searching;• Help users interact with each other during the process;• Help users fill out and submit job applications online;• Help users find a job; and• Help users develop skills to use throughout their career.

The JobScout Experience

To learn broad subjects like “Internet Savvy” and “Finding Work Online,” users take lessons that test knowledge and reward success through eye-catching badges.

A jobscout user accumulates badges as she progresses through lessons that teach digital literacy in order to find a job online.

Games and interactive features keep users engaged while they learn to use a search engine, set up an email account, use social networks, build an online resume, find job listings and prepare for interviews.

jobscout’s social network allows users to connect with each other online, leading to offline collaboration.

jobscout also boasts a custom resume builder, built-in job searchfunctionality and an application manager, allowing the user access to the full job search experience without leaving the jobscout site.

Features of the jobscout’s web and mobile applications include:

• Lessons on using the Internet for job opportunities;

• Gamified platform where users can earn badges for completed lessons;

• “One Stop Job Shop” lets users search for openings, save listings, apply and track your progress with interview dates and times;

• ResumeBuilder, a fill-in-the-blank resume system;

• One button submission process with pre-formatted cover letters; and

• Out-of-the-box ideas for earning money through micro-entrepreneurship through TaskRabbit, Etsy and other innovative work ideas.

Social Gaming to Incentivize & Create a Useful, Educational Experience

Badges Awarded for Completion of Lessons

The completion of each lesson results in earning a badge. Users have the ability to compare their earned badges with other users through the social network. The Badge Den allows users to see what badges they have earned right when they login.

Characters Used to Personalize the Experience

Three characters are offered to encourage users and personalize the jobscout experience. For those who find characters to be a distraction, users can elect to have a character free experience. Characters appear at the completion of lessons and can be chosen as an avatar for the social network.

Unemployment remained at 7.8% in the United States during Q4 of 2012, and 2,031,400 people are without a job. Despite recent dips, unemployment remains a critical problem that calls for new solutions.

About TRAIL

TRAIL: Discover Your Path

JobScout was created by co-founders Christina Gagnier, Stephanie Margossian and Carter Fort. The trio has since formed parent for-profit company TRAIL to house JobScout and other applications just like it.
