Jim Attebery of Durango Songwriters Expo

Pitch Session SDSG begins our 31st year with a chance to meet and have your songs heard and critiqued by Jim Attebery, the co-founder and President of The Durango Songwriter’s Expo, one of the nation’s premier singer-songwriter events for 17 years.

The Expo is held twice a year, once in Santa Barbara Wine Country, (this year's event is February 28 - March 2) and again in October in Boulder, Colorado. With over 40 music industry pros and hit

songwriters present and registration limited to 200 attendees, the Expo is an unparalleled networking opportunity and one of the few songwrit-ers' events where participants get their music heard extensively by estab-lished industry vets.

Jim is a songwriter, producer, and studio owner who has worked with a variety of bands and artists and has written music for film and tv for many

years. Says Jim, "We all need to be inspired to create. Few things are more inspiring than spending quality time with smart, talented, like-minded people who understand what you do... and are passion-ate about it, in fact."

Jim will be joined on the dais by SDSG Vice President Diane Waters, the winner of many songwrit-ing awards including Country Grand Prize Winner from the 2010 Durango Songwriters Expo. Jim and Diane will offer critiques on submissions, and Pitch attendees will, we're sure, find the meet-ing enjoyable and informative.

In addition to offering his insights about your music, Jim will be selecting two songs from SDSG’s Pitch for free entry in Durango Songwriters Expo’s 2013 “Write With A Hit-Maker” Song Contest. Please mark your song pitches as either “Pop/Rock”, “Country” or “Film and TV” (Note: Film and TV category submissions should be broadcast quality).

For more info about Durango and the Write With A Hit-Maker Song Contest , visit them at www.durango-songwriters-expo.com

2012 SDSG Song Contest Judges

Will EdwardsBorn in Zimbabwe and raised across America, Will Edwards em-bodies the traveling troubadour. His music and songs capture a unique and personal side to life that people from all walks of life can relate to. His music is grounded in the rich traditions of American folk, rock, jazz, blues and roots music, but expands to include contemporary instrumentation and subject matter such as isolation, family ties, hope, and faith.

Lindsay WhiteCutest stinkin’ dimples in the land. Experience on the farm and in the city. Republican then Democrat. Married then divorced. Straight then gay. Religious then spiritual. Gemini. Former collegiate athlete and binge eater. Current corporate event planner and shoe collector. Future professional songwriter and mother of two. While most people may know Lindsay as one-half of the duo The Lovebirds, she is also a talented solo artist. Her musical blend of pop, rock, folk, country and blues details honest and earnest stories that speak of her deepest fears and darkest secrets. Lindsay’s latest album Tracks is a one-way ticket on the train to self-discovery. All aboard!

Marc “Mookie” KaczorMarc “Mookie” Kaczor has been heard on the radio waves in south-ern California as a champion of new music. Mookie has cut his chops as a jock on 91X, the short lived Radio Sophie and currently with FM 94/9. Mookie is also music director of low-power Laguna Beach indie startup station, KX 93.5, playing an expanded indie playlist and playing artists who normally would not get exposure on terrestrial radio. Look for the Unsigned Sunday radio show to be popping up in various markets as a nationally syndicated program as well.

Josquin des PresJosquin des Pres is a prolifi c songwriter, composer, producer and author who has gained and maintained the respect of his peers through decades in the music in-dustry. Over his 30 year career, Josquin has co-written dozens of songs with Elton John’s legendary lyricist Bernie Taupin, and collaborated with hit songwriters such as Winston Sela & Andy Goldmark. Long-time owner of Track Star Studios in La Mesa, Josquin has recorded multi-platinum artists ranging from Jack Johnson to The Gipsy Kings. Josquin also runs his own publishing company, Track Star Enter-tainment, Inc.

informal setting. It was a long night but, with its real-time presentation format, this Contest off ers a unique opportunity to not only enter a contest, but to listen, learn and connect as well.

Of course, SDSG couldn’t pull this event off without the generous support of our sponsors. This year, we received great studio prizes from Beaird Music Group out of Nashville and San Diego’s own Studio West. Taylor Guitars and Rancho Bohemia’s Mark Charles Hattersley teamed up to donate a Baby Taylor guitar. Out top prize winner gets a feature ar-ticle in the San Diego Troubadour and a photo shoot with Steve Covault Professional Music Photography. Trophies for the top three winners were donated by Sandi Shaner Speaker Eventions.com. Annie Rettic donated Melaleuca products that spiced up our awards presentation, and SDSG donated Guild Memberships and several great songwriting books to winners as well.

Please review the Sponsors List on page six of this newsletter and consider contacting a sponsor if you need services of a type they off er. Thank You Sponsors... we truly appreciate your contributions and support for SDSG.

For the fi rst time, SDSG off ered online MP3 submissions, and many songwriters took advantage of this method of enter-ing. Special thanks goes to SDSG Director of Technology John Pape of Mediatunes Web Design for his tireless eff orts in developing and implementing the online entry process. Being able to count on Will Ruiz for assistance has and con-tinues to be a tremendous boon to SDSG... Thanks Will! And, of course, thanks to everyone on SDSG Board for making our 21st Annual Song Contest happen!
