English proficiencyApplicants whose first language is not English, or whose high school program was not taught in English, must provide an English proficiency test score (minimum: IELTS 6.5 and TOEFL 90 Internet-based). Other English language proficiency test scores are also accepted.

If you meet the academic criteria but need further preparation in English language, you may be admitted conditionally based on registration in an ESL program offered by Dalhousie or one of our partner institutions. Details on ESL programs and services are available at dal.ca/admissions.

Students applying directly from high school may choose to complete the Global Assessment Certificate (GAC), a comprehensive transition year program integrating English language training with instruction in math, science, computing, business, and social studies.
