Each day at SECU Family House, I hear countless stories – stories of �ope, stories ofsupport, stories of triumph over adversity. Allow me to share just a few ofthese heartfelt snapshots of our guests, donors, and volunteers from the past year. Ihope they inspire you to make your own addition to our beautiful Family House mosaic.

Our mission at SECU Family House is to provide an affordable, safe,nurturing home away from home for seriously ill patients and theirfamily members and caregivers from throughout North Carolina and beyond.

Through lodging in our beautiful home near the hospitals, meals,transportation, and special programs, we build a support networkthat helps families rest and recuperate when they need it most.

Salie Babilonia is a Dare Countywife and mother of three, who haskept her spunky, positive spiritintact while battling thyroid cancer.Salie, a real estate sales associate,and Carlos, her husband of 16years, stayed at the SECU FamilyHouse during Salie’s surgery andtreatment at UNC Hospitals.

89% of guests were from North Carolina

$82 cost to operate a room at Family house for a night

$3,288 cost to operate all 40 rooms for a night

$30,000 cost to operate one room for a complete year

$645 average weekly savings we provide to a family staying with us

$7,000 average savings we provide to a stem cell transplant patient staying with us

95% of guests say Family House has had a positive impact on their recovery

The Carolina Ball on September 20 raised $190,000 tosupport essential operating costs. The evening’s festivitiesincluded a seated dinner, casino games, live and silentauctions, dancing to the tunes of Liquid Pleasure, andremarks from Bill Roper, CEO of UNC Health Care.

Family House hosted the Chapel Hill-CarrboroChamber of Commerce’s monthly Business

After Hours series in March, drawing 50attendees from the local business community.

The Family House Culture Series brings local talent to the house for an evening of conversation. In2013, we welcomed Mildred “Mama Dip” Council, known for her Southern comfort food, who shared herremarkable story with Fred Black. Family House friend Ann Petersen and Liquid Pleasure front-manKenny Mann hosted. Author Jill McCorkle discussed her latest book, “Life After Life,” in an event hostedby Family House friend, Sally Austin.

The Tar Heels for SECU Family House BBQ & Golf Tournament April 25-26 raised$123,000 to fund operating costs. Hosts were UNC’s Athletic Director BubbaCunningham, Head Football Coach Larry Fedora, and Head Men’s Basketball CoachRoy Williams. The highlight of the two-day fundraiser was the live auction of aCarolina Blue Volvo convertible.
