Student funding for NHS courses

Contract with Strategic Health Authority

Tuition fees paid by NHS

Covers Physiotherapy, Podiatry, Midwifery and Occupational Therapy

Fees and funding for NHS funded courses

• NHS pay the fees for Nursing, Midwifery and courses regulated by Health Professions Council:

• Dietetics; Dental hygiene or Dental Therapy; Occupational Therapy; Operating Department Practitioner; Orthoptics; Physiotherapy; Podiatry; Prosthetics and Orthotics; Radiography; Speech and Language Therapy

Check funding arrangements for Paramedic Practice (no national agreement)

• Further funding support from NHS and students are also eligible for reduced student maintenance loan from Student Loans Company

• Part-time Occupational Therapy tuition fees also covered by NHS, Students eligible for percentage of the full-time means tested bursary, as long as they fall within threshold

• Students are not eligible for university bursaries, as fees are paid, but will be eligible for academic merit scholarships

Applying for funding

• Apply to NHS for fees, £1,000 grant and NHS bursary

• Apply to Student Finance England for reduced rate maintenance loan

Enrol in person at beginning of autumn term

• University confirms that student has enrolled

• Money transferred to student bank account by BACS

• Paid in termly instalments

• Standard room £145 a week for 40 week tenancy

Applying for halls

• Application packs sent out to all offer holders

• Halls allocation policy

• Guaranteed offers for students with certain disabilities and medical conditions

• To be eligible for consideration for halls, first years should

• Apply to the university by the UCAS deadline

• Make Brighton their firm choice

• Apply for halls by the deadline – mid-June

• Demand outstrips supply, halls places can not be guaranteed

• Places are allocated in the summer
