lot 5 Brilliant BordeauxWhen the gods of wine sprinkled their gifts, they scattered the lion’s share on Bordeaux. First, there’s the climate. Equidistant from the North Pole and the Equator, Bordeaux’s seasons are mild. The proximity of the Atlantic Ocean and a multitude of river valleys, buffeted by the pine forests of the Aquitaine coast, protect against extreme weather. What do you get when you combine glamour and camping? “Glamping,” of course! Win this package, and you and three other couples will enjoy a five-star weekend of luxury camping.

You’ll know this is no regular camping when the chauffeured Airstream Interstate luxury coach picks you up on Saturday, August 3, 2013. You’ll be whisked to Penner-Ash Wine Cellars to begin the weekend adventure with an intimate blending seminar with hosts Lynn and Ron Penner-Ash. Both Robert Parker, Jr. and The Wine Spectator have rated Penner-Ash Wine Cellars as one of the top producers of Pinot Noir in the nation. Your group will blend a private cuvee melding some of the most coveted vineyards in the Willamette Valley. Each couple will take home a case of their personal blend of Pinot Noir.

Once the group completes their cuvees, each couple will be escorted to their private Airstream tucked into the estate vineyard. Each Airstream is styled by Vanillawood, an award-winning design firm led by Kricken and James Yaker. Local products, including Pendleton wool blankets, adorn each unit and are available for guests to take home as mementos of this truly unique Pacific Northwest experience.

Following the blending seminar, Chef Sarah Schafer of Irving Street Kitchen will pre-pare a Northwest seasonally inspired dinner paired with exclusive Penner-Ash library wines. Sarah’s credentials include being the first female Sous Chef in the New York City’s Danny Meyer Group before moving to San Francisco to work at Frisson and then opening Anchor & Hope. California’s small wine producers have inspired near hysteria among wine critics for their remarkably crafted Cabernet Sauvignon and proprietary red blends. lot 17 drycreek Valley Hillside: Cie goulet monoprint

As critic Kevin Francis wrote, “Cie Goulet succeeds as a landscape artist because she revivifies those rare moments of exhilaration and wonder that we experience in nature. The spell that she is able to cast through color and imagination testifies to her technique.”

Drycreek Valley Hillside, a 58" by 72" monoprint, showcases the exact qualities Francis describes. The work’s geometric yet abstractly gorgeous portrayals of earth and grape vines evokes the wonder a viewer feels while taking in a Sonoma hillside on an August afternoon. Goulet says her rich and dramatic monotypes are inspired by the dramatic light and energy found in Pacific Northwest and California hillsides.

What intrigues the artist is the opportunity to find dramatic composition elements— foreshortening, layer of terrain, and more that lead the viewer into the landscape. Evident is the juxtaposition of complementary colors of blue-gold, coral-blue, magenta-yellow, and the opportunity to manipulate the active sky, water, and shadows.

Most exciting is to work from the ever-changing fields in the valleys—the vineyards, hayfields, wheat fields, and hillsides of wild flowers. Such an example is in the monotypes of the hills and vineyards of the Northern Sonoma area. As Goulet says, “It was a particular pleasure to work from the many views of Harry Merlo’s vineyards seen in the monotype, Drycreek Valley Hillside.
