TODAY’S MATCHUP Saturday’s game marks the second half of a two- year home and home series with Northeast 10 Conference member Stonehill, a team Bloomsburg had never faced prior to last season. In the first- ever meeting last August, the Huskies came away from Easton, Mass., with a 44-28 victory to open the 2012 campaign. e Skyhawks went on to finish 5-5 last year including a 3-3 mark in NE-10 play. e 5-5 record has been a common theme for Stonehill – the Skyhawks finished 5-5 in 2007, 2009, 2010 and 2012 in their search to end a long dry spell without a winning record. Stonehill’s last season with a record above .500 came in 1996 when the school went 8-2. THE HEAD COACHES e more things change, the more they stay the same might be the motto for the Huskies this fall. Although longtime head coach Danny Hale has retired, taking with him a 173-56-1 mark during his tenure with the Huskies, the faces on the sideline remain very familiar. Paul Darragh takes over the role of interim head coach this season after serving 16 years on the Bloomsburg coaching staff as defensive coordinator. Under Darragh’s leadership, the Huskies’ defense has ranked in the top half of the PSAC in total defense in seven of the past 11 seasons. Robert Talley begins his seventh year at the helm of the Skyhawks, owning a 28-33 record. Talley became the all-time leader in coaching victories at Stonehill in 2009 and has guided the team to four .500 seasons for the first time since the early 1990s and just the second time in program history. LAST YEAR’S MEETING Bloomsburg captured the first-ever meeting between schools with a 44-28 victory in Easton, Mass., to open the 2012 season. Stonehill grabbed the momentum early when Kevin Anderson ran the opening kickoff back for a touch- down. Bloomsburg stormed back, however, and looked as though it would turn the game into a rout, scoring the next 31 points unanswered for a 31-7 lead at halftime. Stonehill would eventually cut its deficit to just 10 points, though, at 38-28 with 10:38 to play before a five-minute Huskies drive resulted in a Danny Fisher 38-yard field goal pulled the lead to 41-28 and the Skyhawks would not threaten any further. e Huskies dominated on the ground, out-rushing Stonehill by a 369-33 margin. Franklyn Quiteh ran for 218 yards on 27 carriers including a 60-yard touchdown sprint in the third quarter. Quarterback Tim Kelly made his Huskies debut by going 16-for- 26 through the air for 197 yards and a score. Stonehill found success through the air after being forced to pass faced with a large early deficit. Quarterback Logan Meyer tossed for 370 yards and three touchdowns, but was also intercepted by the Huskies five times. at Stonehill (0-0, 0-0 NE-10) Date: Saturday, Sept. 7, 2013 Time: 1:00 p.m. Location: Bloomsburg, PA Stadium: Redman Stadium (4,775) Radio: WHLM 930 AM — Jim Doyle (play-by-play) and Andy Ulicny (color) Webstream: bloomu.edu/huskytv Live Stats: BUHuskies.com #18 Bloomsburg (0-0, 0-0 PSAC) #18 BLOOMSBURG HUSKIES 0 - 0, 0 -0 PSAC SEPTEMBER Sat. 7 STONEHILL ...........................1:00 p.m. Sat. 14 at Edinboro .......................... 12:00 p.m. Sat. 21 at Kutztown* ...........................1:05 p.m. Sat. 28 LOCK HAVEN* .....................3:30 p.m. OCTOBER Sat. 5 at Gannon............................. 12:00 p.m. Sat. 12 MILLERSVILLE* ...................3:30 p.m. Sat. 19 at East Stroudsburg*..............1:05 p.m. Sat. 26 CHEYNEY* .............................2:00 p.m. u. 31 SHIPPENSBURG* .................8:00 p.m. NOVEMBER Sat. 9 at West Chester* ....................1:00 p.m. Sat. 16 SLIPPERY ROCK ..................1:00 p.m. * PSAC East contest COACHING Head Coach ............ 2012 SEASON RECAPSBloomsburg finished its 2012 season with a 10-2 overall record which culminated in the ninth NCAA Playoff appearance in school history. BU found much of its success through its again dominant run game, which ranked first in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference and fifth in all of NCAA Division II as the Huskies averaged 315.75 yards per game on the ground. The stout Bloomsburg offensive line not only opened up running lanes throughout the season but also allowed only 0.67 sacks per game - a mark that was best in the PSAC and seventh in D-II. Bloomsburg began its season 8-0 before falling, 49-42, at Shippensburg on Oct. 27. The only other loss would again come at Ship - this time in the first round of the NCAA Playoffs as the Huskies season came to a close, 58-20, on Nov. 17.
For Stonehill, the Skyhawks ran off three straight wins following a week one loss to Bloomsburg to improve to 3-1. Back-to-back losses on the road at Bentley and American International dropped Stonehill back to .500 and it would alternate wins and losses in the final four weeks to finish at 5-5. Stonehill was the fourth seed in the Northeast-10 playoffs and had its season end on NE-10 championship weekend after turning the ball over five times in a 13-10 loss at home to Southern Connecticut State.
NATIONAL RECOGNITIONThe Huskies begin the season ranked in several national polls. Bloomsburg ranks at No. 18 in the preseason poll produced by the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA). Lindy’s Football Annual tabbed BU at No. 10 in Division II while The Sporting News listed the Huskies at No. 17 in the country. Most recently, Bloomsburg checked in at No. 16 on the D2Football.com Top 25 this week.
DII’S FINESTDuring preseason, D2Football.com unveiled its top 100 players in all of NCAA Division II. The Huskies were extremely well represented in that poll, placing three players in the top 11 and five in the top 100 – including taking the top spot. Senior running back Franklyn Quiteh earned the honor as the No. 1 player in the poll, being credited for his speed, vision and ability to break tackles. The two-time Harlon Hill finalist
was joined by defensive end Larry Webster (No. 9), offensive guard Brian Clarke (No. 11), center Chris Steck (No. 94) and defensive tackle Chris Kennedy (No. 96).
When the D2Football.com preseason All-America teams came out this week, the Huskies also had strong representation - Quiteh and Clarke were each first team selections while Steck and Webster landed on the second team.
ALL-PSAC PERFORMERSBloomsburg led the PSAC East with 15 players named to 16 All-PSAC East selections announced last season. The first team selections returning this season are Franklyn Quiteh (RB), Matt Feiler (OT), Brian Clarke (OG), Chris Steck (C), Larry Webster (DL), Chris Kennedy (DL), and Dan Fisher (P). Second team pick Justin Shirk (LB) also returns.
WELCOME BACKA key reason for optimism around the Huskies this preseason stems from the amount of familiar faces around practice. More than 40 letterwinners return from last year’s team, including 11 starters - five on offense and six on defense. The Huskies bring back seniors Brian Clarke, Matt Feiler and Chris Steck on the offensive line along with senior running back Franklyn Quiteh, redshirt sophomore quarterback Tim Kelly and senior wide receiver Glenn Hutton on offense. Defensively, junior Tony David and David McFadden along with senior Chris Kennedy return along the line as well as junior linebacker Justin Shirk and D.J. Robinson, a junior, and senior Jonathan Patrick in the secondary. Sacks leader Larry Webster also returns with one season of eligibility remaining. On special teams, Danny Fisher, the school’s all-time leading kicker, also is a key returner.
THEY KEEP THE HOME FIRES BURNINGThe Huskies have held a huge home field advantage when playing at Redman Stadium. In 38 seasons there, Bloomsburg holds a record of 134-66-4. The home fires especially burned under the leadership of longtime head coach Danny Hale - under Hale, Bloomsburg posted a 90-20-1 record on home turf.

C H A S I N G H I S T O R YSenior running back Franklyn Quiteh has an opportunity to re-write the PSAC record books this season by setting the conference’s all-time record for most career rushing
yards. Quiteh enters the year needing 362 yards to break the all-time BU and PSAC record of 5,689 rushing yards set by Jamar Brittingham during the 2007 season. Quiteh capped
2012 as a Harlon Hill finalist, finishing third in the final voting. He enjoyed his finest season last year, rushing for 2,121 yards while averaging a Division II-best 176.8 yards
IT ALL STARTS UP FRONTThe strength of the Huskies for many years has stemmed from its running game. Bloomsburg’s running prowess is made possible by its dominant offensive line. Last season, the Huskies ranked fifth in Division II rushing offense at 315.75 yards per game and set the single-season PSAC rushing record with 3,789 yards. The O-Line also surrendered just two sacks over the season’s final seven games, leading the PSAC and ranking seventh in Division II at 0.67 sacks allowed per game. Three starters from that unit return this year - All-PSAC East first team picks Brian Clarke, Matt Feiler and Chris Steck. Those three players have 82 starts among them during their Bloomsburg careers.
PSAC PRESEASON POLLBloomsburg was picked second in the Eastern Division in the 2013 PSAC Preseason Coaches’ Poll which was released at PSAC Media Day last month. It marks the eighth straight year BU has been been picked to finish first or second in the division. Shippensburg, last year’s PSAC East champ, took the top spot with six first-place votes while Bloomsburg and third-place West Chester snagged the remaining top tallies. In the West, defending conference champion IUP was a nearly unanimous favorite with seven first-place votes ahead of Mercyhurst which claimed the final top vote.

ROSTER NOTES>The Huskies have 11 seniors on the roster. Ten of those players are at least three-year participants in the program. >Eight of the Huskies’ projected starters on defense are in their junior or senior year of eligibility.>The outstanding senior trio on the offensive line of Brian Clarke, Matt Feiler and Chris Steck each started all 12 games a season ago.>The offensive line boasts the highest number of combined starts from last year between returning players (36) while the receiving core returns the fewest (six, all by Glenn Hutton Jr.)>Seven returning players started all 12 games last year (Brian Clarke, Matt Feiler, Chris Steck, Tim Kelly, Franklyn Quiteh, Chris Kennedy, David McFadden). Another four players (Justin Shirk, Tony David, D.J. Robinson, Jonathan Patrick) started all but one game in 2012.
MR. ALL-AMERICANOffensive tackle Brian Clarke has established himself as one of the top offensive linemen in the country over the past two seasons and recently earned a bit of national recognition. Clarke earned a spot on this year’s preseason All-American list produced by The Sporting News.
HISTORY REPEATS ITSELF....?When Bloomsburg and Stonehill met last season, the Huskies racked up five interceptions against quarterback Logan Meyer. The five picks were the most for BU since it picked off IUP the same number of times during the 2010 season.

WEEK 1 • VS. STONEHILL
CALL ‘EM CAPTAINSSeniors Franklyn Quiteh and Chris Steck along with junior Justin Shirk have been named tri-captains for this season. Steck also served as a team captain a season ago.
STOPPED BY SHIRKJustin Shirk is the top returning Husky tackler from last season after totaling 93 stops a year ago, second on the team behind the now graduated Jarrett Pidgeon (104). This season, the junior moves to middle linebacker. Shirk’s numbers from last year are listed below:
MAN OF MANY TALENTSJustin Shirk has found athletic success on more than just the football field - he won the 2012 NCAA Division II national championship in the javelin thrown with a toss of 235-11 feet or 71.90 meters. As such, he was selected by DailyRelay.com as part of its “Preseason Track Football Team,” honoring the top two-sport (football and track/field) stars in the country among all divisions. He was one of four linebackers selected along with Courtland Clavette (Brown), Jared Minori (Susquehanna) and Cody Britt (Bethel (MN)).
ONE-TWO PUNCHThe Huskies enter the 2013 season looking for young players to step up to add depth at multiple positions on offense, in particular running back and wide receiver. In recent seasons of success, BU has been able to rely on a one-two punch at each skill position to balance the offensive attack. Last fall, the Huskies became the first team in PSAC history to have a pair of running backs rush for over 1,000 yards two straight years (2011-2012). While at receiver, Ryan Dickerson and Kyle Fisher gave the Huskies two threats on the outside. This year, BU seeks a compliment to lead rusher Franklyn Quiteh. The most
likely player to step into that role is redshirt sophomore Dai’Shon Munger. Munger impressed in limited duty last year, averaging 6.3 yards per carry on 33 touches in his Huskies’ debut. Meanwhile, Bloomsburg returns only one wide receiver to haul in a catch last year – senior Glenn Hutton Jr.
NICE TO MEET YOUWhile second-year quarterback Tim Kelly has a season of experience under his belt, he will be throwing to a nearly entirely new group of receivers. Senior Glenn Hutton Jr. anchors the group after making 16 receptions for 240 yards and two TDs last year. Redshirt sophomore Connor Gades will get the call on the other side while fellow redshirt sophomore Trent Daniels brings size and speed to the outside. Junior Tony Peregrin has made strides through the spring and preseason workouts and will vie for time as well.
HE’S A VETERAN NOWStarting quarterback Tim Kelly starts the new season with the benefit of a full season of experience after winning the job last summer as a redshirt freshman. Praised by the coaching staff for his ability to read defenses and make decisions on the fly, Kelly managed the offense well in his first season and finished the year with 1,793 yards passing and 22 touchdowns. Kelly also brings mobility into the pocket, rushing for 211 yards a year ago. Kelly became the first redshirt freshman quarterback to start for the Huskies since Dan Latorre in 2006. His 2012 numbers:
2012 Stats Comp Att Yds TD/INTTim Kelly 115 225 1793 22/13
PUT IT ON THE BOARDBloomsburg has scored at least 14 points in 36 straight games dating to Nov. 7, 2009 against Gannon. Last year, the Huskies scored 20 or more points in every game and averaged over 37 points per contest.
Franklyn Quiteh opens the season needing 362 yards to eclipse the PSAC rushing record.
Though new to the head coach’s role, interim head coach Paul Darragh already has 16 years of ex-perience coaching at BU.
Quiteh averaged 176.8 yards per game in 2012.
The Huskies have a streak of 14 consecutive winning seasons dating to 1999.

TOUGH ACT TO FOLLOWLast year’s edition of the Huskies set the PSAC record for rushing yards in a season, finishing the year with 3,789 yards on the ground. That was good for an average of 315.75 yards of rushing per game, fifth-best in Division II.
GROUND AND POUNDThe Huskies have had 30 or more rushing attempts in 37 straight contests, dating back to Oct. 31, 2009. WHAT WILL HE DO FOR AN ENCORE?Defensive end Larry Webster made his Huskies football debut last year, but he looked every bit the veteran as he quickly became one of the PSAC’s best pass rushers. Webster ranked second in the PSAC in sacks with 13.5, trailing only Cal’s B.J. Stevens (14.5), and his 15.0 tackles for loss were good for fifth in the conference. Webster, who checks in at 6-foot-7 and 250 pounds, spent four years on the hardwood as part of the Huskies’ men’s basketball team. He was the 2011-12 PSAC East Defender of the Year and holds the all-time BU record for career blocks with 175.
SPECIAL K-ICKSThis season, the field goals made by senior kicker Danny Fisher will mean a little more than just points on the board for the Huskies. Fisher, the school’s all-time leader in field goals, has created an initiative called “Kick for a Cure” to raise money for the Angelman Syndrome Foundation. For each field goal he kicks this season, Fisher will donate money donated by supporters of the cause to the ASF to go toward disease research and awareness. Fisher developed the idea based on a close family friend battling Angelman syndrome, a neuroge-netic disorder similar to autism that is caused by loss of function of a particular gene in the brain during fetal development. For more information, visit www.angelman.org.
FISHER NAMED TO MITCHELL WATCH LISTDanny Fisher also begins the season on the prestigious Fred Mitchell Award Watch List. Fisher is one of 34 place-kickers across Football Championship Subdivision (FCS), Division II, Division III, NAIA and NJCAA on the list after being nominated by their colleges for their excellence on the field and in the community. Top performers will be announced monthly with the Fred Mitchell Award winner announced in mid-December.
HUSKIES TO APPEAR ON NATIONAL TVMany eyes were already set to be on a key PSAC East battle between Bloomsburg and Shippensburg late this season, but now that game will also have the national spotlight. Bloomsburg’s game vs. Shippensburg at Redman Stadium on Halloween Night will air live on the CBS Sports Network at 8:00 p.m. The Huskies will be looking to avenge two losses vs. Ship last year.

Bloomsburg has won 13 consecutive home openers dating back to 2000. The school’s all-time record in the first home game of the year is 72-38-5. The 2012 season was the first year in school history the Huskies scored at least 20 points in every game. It was also the first time in 115 seasons a Husky team both scored and surrendered ten or more points in every game. Bloomsburg comes into the 2013 season having won seven or more games for 14 consecutive years. Only five schools in all the divisions of the NCAA have longer streaks: Florida, Florida State and Virginia Tech in the FBS; NW Missouri in Division II; and Mt. Union in Division III. The 14-year streak is also a PSAC record, breaking IUP’s mark of 13 set from 1984-1996. The Huskies enter the 2013 season having scored 14 or more points in 36 consecutive games, also a school record. The 2013 season is the 40th in the history of Redman Stadium. In 2012 Bloomsburg was 5-0 at home, the 10th year the team has been undefeated. The Huskies all-time record in Redman Stadium is now 134-66-4, a winning percentage of .667. Franklyn Quiteh comes into 2013 with a school record 32 100-yard rushing games, three more than previous record setter Jamar Brittingham. Quiteh’s 17 consecutive 100-yard games are also a school record, six more than Irvin Sigler’s 1996-1997 streak.

Paul Darragh was named interim head coach of Bloomsburg University in February 2013 and overall will be starting his 17th season with the Huskies this year. Darragh has served as the Huskies’ defensive coordinator for the last 16 years. Under Darragh’s leadership the Huskies’ defense has ranked in the top-half of the PSAC in total defense seven of the past 11 seasons, including back-to-back second place finishes in 2000 and 2001 and a second place in 2009. The Huskies have also ranked among the best in the PSAC in run defense finishing first or second five times, including second in two of the last four seasons. The 2009 Huskies finished third nationally in scoring defense (13.36/game), pacing the PSAC. BU also led the conference in sacks, ranking 14th nationally (3.09 per game). In 2010 the Huskies were eighth in Division II in rushing defense (85.38 yards per game). Overall under Darragh’s leadership, the Bloomsburg defense finished in the top-15 in NCAA Division II six times since the 2000 season. Darragh has also coached 51 first team All-PSAC performers, seven All-Americans and two PSAC East Defensive Players of the Year in Anthony Smith (2009) and Mike Va-ranavage (2010). Prior to Bloomsburg, Darragh worked for two years at Indiana (PA) as the linebackers coach. He started his coaching career as a graduate assistant at Temple from 1987-89. From there, Darragh coached the linebackers at Northeastern and Gannon before being promoted to defensive coordinator at Gannon. He moved from Gannon to the defensive coordinator post at William Paterson College before joining the IUP staff. A three-year starter and captain for Temple, he graduated in 1985 after earning All-East honors as an inside linebacker. Darragh and his wife Yelena live in Orangeville with their children Sasha, Lemuel and Gabriel.
