MUTCD 2009 Revision - High Visibility Apparel
Under rules published December 16, 2009, the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) adopted the 2009 Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD), the standard for all of the nation’s roadways. The revised MUTCD now requires that workers in a right-of-way or work zone must wear high visibility apparel that meets Performance Class 2 or 3 requirements of ANSI/ISEA 107.
The revised MUTCD went into effect January 15, 2010, and all states had to be in significant conformance within two years. As of December 31, 2011, anyone working on or alongside a roadway, public or private, is now required to wear compliant high visibility apparel.
