Republican John Boehner is planning another big fight over the debt limit.
The Republican partyremains unchastenedfor its political intran-sigence these pastfour years, and why
would it be any other way? Af-ter two years of just-say-norule in Washington followingthe election of PresidentBarack Obama — 24 monthsof rancorous opposition, inwhich nearly every Democratproposal was spurned, eventhose causes originally cham-pioned by the right — votersrewarded Republicans withlandslide elections in 2010,tilting the balance of powermore in their favor. Sincethen, they’ve continued thatvehement obstruction, hopingfor similar electoral dividendscome November.
Last year, the GOP’s un-yielding arrogance came backto bite us all in the form of alowered national credit rat-ing: Standard & Poor’sdropped the indicator of confi-dence in U.S. financial securityover what it called “politicalbrinkmanship” related to thelack of a debt deal — a politi-cal failure to compromisestemming, numerous reportshave revealed, from the Re-
publican party’s strict adher-ence to a no-tax orthodoxy.
Now, House SpeakerJohn Boehner haspromised a repeatof that bruising bat-tle. Boehner, speak-
ing at a fiscal summit yester-day, affirmed his plan to onceagain play hard-to-get over thepreviously routine bipartisanprocedure of raising the debtceiling. “I will again insist onmy simple principle of cutsand reforms greater than thedebt limit increase,” he said.
It sounds good on its face,
but Boehner’s talk of “cutsand reforms” is a ruse. In2011, Obama agreed to morecuts than many in his coali-tion had bargained for, butBoehner toed the line on theGrover Norquist no-tax pledgeand bailed. No compromise,no deal. Meanwhile, the bipar-tisan framework created to tryand force that deal — the so-called supercommittee, whichimplemented automatic cutsdisliked by both parties in theabsence of agreement —proved itself without sub-stance last week when con-gressional Republicans movedto squeeze their way out oftheir half of the bad bargain, voting to cut social programsas a means of preventing re-ductions in military funding.
Republicans distortfacts to destroy theObama presidency,by any means neces-sary. They have ef-
fectively marshaled the deficitboogeyman to scare half thecountry into distrusting theexecutive — even thoughmost of our current debt bur-den can be directly tracedback to President George W.Bush. (A fact we’ll be skeweredfor repeating, no doubt, but afact nonetheless.) What’smore: The Paul Ryan budgetproposal, a Republican rally-ing point, actually does aworse job of reducing thedeficit than Obama’s plan.
So here we are again. Unit-ed in their opposition to Presi-dent Obama and verifiableeconomic data, Republicanshold the nation’s purse stringshostage. Break out the cham-pagne, we’ve got some re-warding to do!

News in briefAmericans have no idea howcredit scores are calculatedA new report out from theConsumer Federation ofAmerica leaves a big impres-sion about the U.S. consumer, and it’s not a pleasant one.
Americans, it seems, justdon’t know much about theircredit scores — specifically, how they’re calculated andwhat impacts them the most.
That’s not good news fortens of millions of Americansmired in debt. Bad credit canlead to more debt, as banksand lenders tack on extra feesand higher interest rates to ex-tend credit to riskier con-sumers — in other words, those with lower credit ratings.
In a new study released thisweek by the CFA (the secondannual Survey of ConsumerKnowledge About CreditScores), year-to-year consumerunderstanding of credit scoresare up slightly, but that’s theonly piece of encouragingnews from the report.
Consumers did show posi-tive signs on credit knowledgein some areas, especiallywhich service providers actu-ally provided credit scores; thefact that consumers havemore than one credit score;
and how to raise their creditscore. All were up moderatelyaccording to the survey.
CFA calls that knowledgegap a “serious misunderstand-ing” on the part of Americanconsumers. MAINSTREET.COM

2When Jay-Z went on
CNN yesterday andwas asked aboutObama’s recent pub-
lic support of gay marriage, hedidn’t necessarily say anythinggroundbreaking. We’re all hu-mans, we’re wasting our timetalking about this, love hap-pens: You’ve heard this before.
But, that said, everythingsounds so much cooler whenit’s delivered with a little Jay-Zswagger. This guy should con-sider running for office — orcalling us:
“I’ve always thought of [opposi-tion to gay marriage] as some-thing that was still holding thecountry back. What people do in
their own homes is theirbusiness.”Of course it is. I bet your homeis lovely. It seems like it wouldsmell really nice and have goodsnacks. Swoon.
“It’s really not about votes, it’sabout people. Whether it costs[Obama] votes or not, I think it’sthe right thing to do as a humanbeing.”We’re humans! We love beinghuman. Go humans.
“You can choose to love whoeveryou love.”Like you, for instance. I mean,if Beyonce’s cool with it. She’sprobably not. Forget this parthappened.
First Travoltaaccuser dropslawsuitThe first man to accuse John Tra-volta of sexual battery hasdropped the lawsuit he filedagainst the actor. The unnamedmasseur claimed that the actorhad harassed him during a mas-sage session in Beverly Hills, but
evidence placing Travolta in NewYork during the alleged incidentcast doubts over the accusations.A second masseur is still suingover a separate incident. Travol-ta’s lawyers have maintained thatall of the claims are “completefabrication and fiction.”
Hemsworth on name gamesWhat’s in a name? Well, for ChrisHemsworth’s newborn daugh-ter, India, it simply pleased theparents. “It was just a name we
liked,” Hemsworth explains to E!News. “I always kind of liked In-die or Indiana for a boy, and sheliked India. We sort of went, ‘Ohwell, whether it’s a boy or girl, that will decide it.’ It just seemedto fit.” The 28-year-old“Avengers” star is equallypleased with finally being afather. “I’ve wanted to have kidsfor a long time, and here it is, andI couldn’t be happier.”
Jessica Alba: Notsuch a tough girl
While Jessica Alba iscomfortable with her public im-age now, it wasn’t always so easy, she admits — especially back inher “Dark Angel” days. “I had ashow that premiered when I was19. And right away, everyoneformed a strong opinion aboutme because of the way I was mar-keted. I was supposed to be sexy, this tough action girl. That’s whatpeople expected,” she tells MarieClare magazine. “I felt like I wasbeing objectified, and it mademe uncomfortable. I wanted tobe chic and elegant!”

Crazy doesn’t come cheapDemi Lovato may get to sit atthe same table as Britney
Spears on “The X Factor,” butshe won’t be taking home thesame paycheck. While Spearssigned a $15 million deal, Lo-vato will be earning a littlemore than $1 million for
judging Season 2 of thesinging competition, reportsTMZ. Take note, Demi: Some-times taking a year off to fallout of limos covered in Chee-tos dust pays — big time.
It’s official:We’re afraidof Tom CruiseWe don’t know what tomake of the June cover ofW magazine: We get thatit’s a joke and Tom Cruise isin character for his upcom-ing heavy-metal musical“Rock of Ages,” but we sus-pect he thinks he looks se-riously hot here.
Inside, the actor talksabout where he learnedhis “Risky Business” dancemoves: “My motherworked, my sisters wereout, and I’d turn the musicup. I learned how to dancewatching ‘Soul Train.’ I no-ticed that if a guy coulddance, he’d get a lot of at-tention and girls wouldwant to dance with him. Iworked very hard atimitating those moves.”

Celebrityidentity crisisIn honor of “The Dictator,” welook back on some of our favoritecelebrity alter egos — because, well, dictators aren’t that photo-genic.
1: We’re not exactly sure whereMimi (namesake of “The Emanci-pation of Mimi” album) fits intothe Mariah Carey continuum, butwe think it correlates with theheight of the diva’s hair/dress.
2: Call us old school — or worse— but Ali G will always be our fa-vorite Sacha Baron Cohen charac-ter.
3: If we only knew then that Han-nah Montana was far less mad-dening than Miley Cyrus proper.
4: As Sasha Fierce, Beyonce wasrocking a Snooki-approved bumpand bionic glove circa 2008.
5: As the glamorous grandfatherof stage alter egos, Bowie’s ZiggyStardust introduced the world tothe wonder of boys in eyeliner.
6: Christina Aguilera’s raunchierself, Xtina, debuted in 2002 withthe release of “Stripped.”
7: Even Eminem didn’t seem tohave a firm grasp on where SlimShady began (or Marshall Math-ers, for that matter). But we’repretty sure this was a sighting ofthe rapper’s brattier side.

THE REGION’S ONLY DEDICATED HOSPITAL FOR NEUROSCIENCE Philadelphia has a strong, sto-
ried history of realist art, fromcolonial portraiture throughnewspaper illustrations.
What Bill Valerio discov-ered, shortly after taking overas Woodmere Art Museum’snew director 18 months ago,was that a certain strain of thecity’s art has long distortedthat tradition in arresting, dis-turbing ways.
“These are artists in the20th century who sought toconvey something about thehuman condition by turningthat mainstream realist tradi-tion into something hauntingand dark,” Valerio says, gestur-ing around the gallery nowhousing “Haunting Narratives:Detours From Philadelphia Re-alism, 1935 to the Present.”
The exhibition’s history ofthe uncanny begins in the
1930s, with artists like BentonSpruance, Leon Kelly andRobert Riggs, the latter repre-sented by dark, cinematic printwork. It traces their legacythrough the likes of SidneyGoodman and Peter Paone upto contemporary artists such asHiro Sakaguchi and Bo Bartlett, whose work suggests twistedstories whose particulars areleft to the viewer to discern.
“The point of this show isthat most of the art is veryenigmatic, so there are storiesthat lead you to questions,”Valerio explains. “But they’regrowing out of Philadelphia’snarrative tradition, only in aminor key, where the goal isto comment on life in societytoday.”

It wouldn’t be an overstate-ment to say that SachaBaron Cohen’s comedicsense is genius. It’s crude
and vulgar, but also genius. Aswith his previous characters —Ali G, Borat and Bruno — BaronCohen’s latest uniformed buf-foon makes jokes about racist, sexist and antisemitic attitudes. He teases out in people theopinions that are unfortunatelystill very much a part of theworld, even if they aren’t ex-pressed as genuinely as theyare felt.
This time Baron Cohen playsAdmiral General Aladeen, theleader of the African nation ofWadiya. When he travels toNew York to speak to the U.N.,he finds that there are detrac-tors within the ranks who areseeking to overthrow him. Re-placed by a lookalike, he takesup work at a local health foodco-op, run by neo-hippie Zoey(Anna Faris) in the hopes ofweaseling his way back intocontrol of his country.
Baron Cohen’s greatest suc-cess was with “Borat” in which, while playing a TV host fromKazakhstan, he pounced onunassuming non-actors and
their firmly held beliefs. As tal-ented of a screenwriter as he is,that kind of spontaneity iswhere Baron Cohen trulyshines. “The Dictator” is hilari-ous, wise and stunningly appro-priate for the time we live in,but Baron Cohen does his bestwhen he can flay unsuspectingvictims by luring them into be-lieving he is just as closed-minded as they are.
Comic relief for anoppressed society
Sacha Baron Cohen’s new film,‘The Dictator,’ hits all the marks of a genius comedy, but he doesn’tquite top the critical success of the unscripted ‘Borat’

DeppJohnny and Tim Burton team up
of the night scary and erotic again
Aside from being a hugefan of the original1960s TV series, therewas another reason
Johnny Depp was so keen toteam up with Tim Burton for“Dark Shadows” — about a dys-functional New England familywith a vampire patriarchplayed by Depp. The star hadnoticed a troubling trend in thedepiction of vampires thanksto the popularity of the “Twi-light” series. “I think it was dur-ing ‘Sweeney Todd’ where Ithink I just blurted out in mid-conversation, ‘God, maybe weshould do a vampire movie to-gether where you actually havea vampire that looks like a vam-pire,’” Depp remembers.
Depp and Burton — who
have teamed up on eight filmsnow — share an appreciationfor the darker elements of hor-ror.
“As a child ... I certainly hadthis fascination with monstersand vampires as did Tim andwhatever this darkness, thismystery,” Depp explains.“Then, as you get older, you rec-ognize the erotic nature of thevampire and the idea of the un-dead.”
So what does a vampire looklike, according to Depp andBurton? Pale skin and fangs, tobe sure — but Depp also had todon elaborate prosthetics togive his fingers an extra joint, plus long, pointy fingernails.
“In every film that I’ve beenlucky enough to do with Tim,

And then there are theteeth. The film findsDepp’s BarnabasCollins awakening in
1972 after being interred for200 years. Needless to say, he’sa bit caught off-guard — butnearly as much as the poor con-struction workers that findhim.
“I felt as though I was bitingone of the Village People,”Depp says of his first onscreenkill as a vampire. “When you
had the fangs in, you wanted tobe a little bit careful that youdidn’t actually pierce the jugu-lar, kind of like my experienceshaving Alan Rickman [in‘Sweeney Todd’] — which, bythe way, neither of us want todo again — especially Alan.”

Remember that moun-tain of gold ScroogeMcDuck would swimthrough? That’s about
how expensive it is to make atop-tier video game thesedays. As a result, developerssimply can’t risk giving oneconsole an exclusive to call itsown. Console manufacturers, though, can still flex that“we’ve got what the other onedoesn’t have” muscle. Hereare reviews of two.

This third-person action titlehas a pretty generic single play-er campaign. The writing islazy and doesn’t adequatelycapture the majesty of thespace Western. Some of the set-pieces are cool, but a greatmany are forgettable. So whythe high score? The multiplay-er is seriously amazing. Like,“hold your pee in for 16 hoursbecause you are so addicted”amazing. The latest collection ofsummer dresses fromFrancisco Costa forCalvin Klein seems de-

This collection, available to-day in stores and online, is partof Macy’s “A Magical Journey toBrasil” campaign, which enlistsa variety of designers to cele-brate the country’s vibrant cul-ture. Ten percent of sales fromthese collections will benefitthe Amazon rainforest. Wespoke to Costa about how hecaptured his native Brazil withthese looks.
Which elements of your homecountry did you want to evokewith this collection?Architecture, for me, is themost important thing. I havegreat love for architecture, andBrazilian architecture really sig-nified a lot for me growing up... [such as] the gorgeous sunsetover the [Niteroi ContemporaryArt] Museum, which is basicallycement and steel — very basicelements. That’s my colorpalette: the sunset colors overthe cool cement, and the whiteand black and gray. The cool colors and minimalismprobably aren’t what peopleusually associate with Brazil.Well, it is very festive — andvery sophisticated. There is atremendous sophistication in
Brazilian architecture and art. Ithink there’s a misconceptionof Brazil as Carnival. Thestereotypical Brazil is great, butthere’s a love of sophisticationthere that is representedthrough my designs, through
the fabrication, colors andwearability. Are there any major differencesin Brazilian and American style?Brazilian women are very sen-suous. Maybe there’s a littlemore sensuality in the waythey present themselves — alittle less puritan, maybe. ...There’s an easiness about theculture, the weather, what haveyou — the less fussy, the better. There’s a level of confidence inBrazilian women — and they’renot all the same, you know, it’snot all perfect bodies. They’renot all Gisele [Bundchen], butthey’re all confident, which isreally nice.

HEADACHES:A REAL PAIN
DR. MARKMELROSE BOARD-CERTIFIED EMERGENCY PHYSICIAN AT URGENT CARE MANHATTAN
How do I know if my headache is a health emergencyor if I’m just suffering from too much stress?
Headaches are a common source of daily pain anddiscomfort for millions. The most common causesinclude fever due to infection, tension headachesdue to stress and migraines caused by changes inblood flow in the brain. Other, more ominous,
causes of headaches include bleeding due to ruptured bloodvessels called aneurysms, strokes or meningitis.
Tension headaches are caused by spasm or inflammation ofthe muscles in the scalp and neck. These headaches aretypically of gradual onset, limited duration and are more an-noying than disabling. Tension headaches are usually not ac-companied by other systemic symptoms such as fever, weak-ness, numbness, blurry vision or nausea and vomiting.
Headaches due to various illnesses may be caused bya sinus or dental infection, the fever of a cold or fluor, of greater concern, meningitis. Meningitis is aviral or bacterial infection of the lining and fluidsurrounding the brain and spinal cord. The
headache of meningitis is usually severe, gets rapidly worseand is accompanied by fever, neck stiffness and a toxic appear-ance. If you suspect yourheadache may be due to this po-tentially life-threateninginfection, see your doctor imme-diately or go to the nearest emer-gency room.
A migraine headache is typi-cally accompanied by othersymptoms that may includenausea, a pounding sensation inthe head or an aura (warningsensation) such as vision distur-bances that may precede theheadache. Migraines can be trig-gered by factors including foodsensitivities, menstrual cyclehormonal changes, alcohol andlack of sleep.
The sudden onset of the worst headache of your lifeshould be evaluated by a physician immediately. These symptoms typically signal a rupturedaneurysm, a potentially fatal leaking artery in thebrain.
Most headaches are caused by benign conditions and canbe treated with over-the-counter pain medication. The new on-set of a headache that is different or worse than usual for you,or accompanied by symptoms that prevent you from goingabout your daily life, should be evaluated by a doctor soonerrather than later.

Chef Jamie Oliver has de-voted his career to fight-ing unhealthy eating —and you can see why:
Global obesity has more thandoubled since 1980. Each year,2.8 million adults around theworld die as a result of beingoverweight.
On Saturday, the British TVstar launches his latest effort:Food Revolution Day, a globalcampaign that asks you tothink about eating right. Youcan participate by hosting a lo-cally sourced dinner party orstarting a campaign at work orschool. Check outwww.foodrevolutionday.com for
more ideas and events in yourcity. Here’s Oliver on why youshould join him:
So, the obesity crisis: How didwe end up here? The main issue is the Westerndiet: It’s single-handedly moreresponsible for damage to glob-al health than anything else. Inso many Western countries, wehave three generations of peo-ple who were never taught howto cook at home. Both parentswere at work, food education atschool is s—, they can’t learnthere. I’ve been in houseswhere kids only hydrate onfizzy drinks and show no inter-
est in tap water. And technolo-gy, freezing techniques andprocessed foods have onlymade things worse. Will the world ever get healthyagain? I actually think that multina-tionals and fast-food companiesare the best people to lead thechange. If they chose to get be-hind healthy eating, theywould do a better job than anyother government or individ-ual. If you thought the oil andpetrol industry was complicat-ed and causing wars, thinkagain. The food industry is onanother level. The problem isthe corruption between food
industries and governments. We need to address smaller is-sues like chicken farming orpink slime. And how will Food RevolutionDay help?I’m not anti-burger or anti-piz-za; I’m anti-s— food. With FoodRevolution Day, I’m trying toget as many people as possibleto stir the pot. We all need tobecome a little fussier about
what we put in our [mouths].When you put something inyour mouth, it’s a very personalthing that affects you straightaway. You’ve already tried to changeNorth American food habitsonce. What makes you thinkpeople will listen to you thistime? I expect nothing. People maynot want me around, but I
don’t think I’ve ever wasted mytime. I don’t give a s— if peoplethink I’m crazy. North Americais difficult as it’s where a lot ofthe unhealthy foods andbrands are created. It’s the eyeof the storm. Most countrieseventually follow their trends.
Q&A
Do you think that mostAmericans would rather go toMcDonald’s than to the gym?
Things need to change, other-wise the whole country willcome to a standstill. Peoplewon’t be mobile. It’s a ques-tion of national security. Howcan you train an army if thenation is obese? Progress willhappen. They have no choice.

History does not back upwhen it comes toadvancements in equality. Wewill not have anotherpresident who believes in leg-islating against the right ofwomen to vote, or the rightfor interracial couples to mar-ry. We will never have anoth-er president in favor of legis-lating against same-sex mar-riage. Shout and stamp yourfeet, or sing and cheer, it’sover — that inequality is over,
that piece of legislated hate isover. Cling to it and you’reover. Next. SCOTT KEELEY, VIA E-MAIL

In response to Cher Hearn:Yes, you’re right for pointingout that marriage at one timewas originally a businesstransaction wherein the bridewas the property of her fatherwho had a contract with thefather of the groom. However,it was still a union between aman and a woman. KAREN SMITH, VIA E-MAIL
Should all weddings in NorthAmerica before July 4, 1776,be annuled because the gov-ernment did not sanction thewedding? No, of course not!Legal precedent is clear andhistorically churches arewhere weddings, baptisms, and funerals are held andrecorded; the governmentmerely recognizes it.Marriage is a religious institu-tion, and it has been for sometime; it’s not a political one.JOHN HEMPHILL, VIA E-MAIL
I have one request: that peo-ple stop comparing being gayto being black. There is nocomparison to the hardshipsthat blacks have faced to getthe rights that we have now.Blacks were considered thelowest of the low and in someaspects still are. So blacks donot have to be sensitive towhat homosexuals are goingthrough. Until they are hunt-ed, hung and ridiculed, don’tlook to us for sympathy. GARRETT LESTER, VIA E-MAIL
I just want to make sure I un-derstand this correctly: Justbecause I am black I shouldsupport gay marriage? I don’tknow what can be more farfrom reality. Closing the gap: Sixersconfident in crunch time
Young, inexperienced group finding ways in fourth quarters Collins’ squad 3-1 in gamesdecided by five points or fewer in the playoffs Sixers’ Allen coming of age against GarnettWith two games of the East-ern Conference semifinals inthe books, we know twothings: Not much separatesthe Celtics from the 76ers andit’s going to be an ugly series.
On the surface, thatsounds like a recipe for disas-ter. The Sixers went 35-31 inthe regular season, but were alaughable 5-18 in games de-cided by eight points or fewer. They were even worse ingames decided by five pointsor fewer, recording a 1-8mark.
The ineptitude may be a lit-tle fluky, but it speaks to thelack of a star and the team’sgeneral offensive ineptitude.
However, the pendulumhas begun to turn in the play-
offs. The Sixers squeezed out afive-point win over the Bullsin Game 3. They later clinchedthat series with a wild, one-point Game 6 victory. Each ofthe first two Celtics gameshave come down to a point, with the teams splitting thedifference. Add it up and theSixers own a 3-1 record in theplayoffs in games decided byfive points or fewer.
“I have to tell you, all sea-son long we couldn't winthese games,” coach DougCollins said. “And now ourguys are believing they can doit, and it is pretty special towatch.”
As the series shifts to theWells Fargo Center for Game3, both sides are expecting an-other close one. And suddenly, that’s just fine by the Sixers.

Diekman throwninto fire, deliversfirst MLB victory
Rookie reliever bails out Phils bullpen Earns firstcareer win in 4-3, walk-off victory Lee still winlessJake Diekman was simply try-ing to control his breathingwhen he came to the moundyesterday afternoon in theninth inning of a tie ballgame.
The talented left-handerwas thrown into the fire, with-out warning, with the win-ning run resting on third base.It was Diekman’s job to getMarwin Gonzalez out, and hefanned him on five pitches.
“I wanted to walk into thedugout and take a hugebreath,” Diekman said, aftermaking his MLB debut. “Icame in and told Juan Pierre,‘This is awesome.’ I don’tthink I could ever dreamabout getting a win in my de-but, it’s pretty crazy.”
The sequence wasn’t exact-ly how the 25-year-old imag-ined it — he figured he’d owna four- or five-run lead — buthe’ll take it. Especially afterHunter Pence’s walk-off homerun in the 10th made him thepitcher of record in a 4-3Phillies win.
Diekman said he couldn’tfeel his legs when he got thecall to come in. He knew itwas his job to limit furtherdamage after Chad Quallsblew a two-run save. But hisfirst priority was to make itsafely out of the bullpen.
“When I got put in, I had tomake sure I didn’t trip down
the stairs first,” Diekman saidhalf-joking. “And then I justwanted to make it all the wayto the mound, if I could. That’s the one thing that wentthrough my head.”
Diekman started Gonzalez
off with a 96-mph fastball, which Gonzalez took for astrike. He retired him with anasty slider at 83 mph.
“I really wanted to throw afirst-pitch fastball,” he said. “Ididn’t want to start off 1-0.”
The Phillies rewarded Diek-man by sending him back outin the 10th inning. He induced
a fly ball out, thennotched back-to-
back strikeouts.“I feel pretty
comfortable be-cause I tried to
control my breath-ing as much as possi-
ble, so that second in-ning helped out a lot, be-
cause I had that one hitter al-ready, so I felt like I did itonce, let’s go do it again,”Diekman said.
The rookie knows he hasan excellent chance to makean impact on the Phillies’struggling bullpen. The team’s5.10 ERA is the worst mark inMajor League Baseball.
Before he starts on that no-ble quest, Diekman had anoth-er one: He planned to call hisdad. What did he plan ontelling him?
“I got a ball for you, dad,”Diekman said.
Jake Diekman earned his first victory in the big leagues yesterday after tossing 1 1/3 scorelessinnings in relief. The 25-year-old was just called up to the majors last Friday.

Lee stellar inno-decisionCliff Lee was at a loss forwords after his thirdstraight no-decision. Leeis 0-1 with a 1.95 ERA.
“That’s somethingthat’s out of my control,”Lee said. “All I can do iscontrol what I cancontrol and that’swhat I focus on.”
Lee was in linefor his first win untilthe ninth. Chad Quallsblew the save, after BrianBogusevic crossed homeon a fielding error byHunter Pence.
“I feel bad not gettinga win for Cliff,” Pencesaid. “I feel bad aboutthat play in the outfield.”
Lee gave up one run (asolo shot in the seventh)and had 10 strikeouts, his 19th career double-digit strikeout game.

Listen, listen up goodPhillies skipper Charlie Manuel got ejected from yesterday’s4-3 win in the eighth. Manuel got into it with Bob Davidsonafter the home-plate umpire interfered with catcher BrianSchneider, which allowed Jason Castro to reach first basesafely. After the game, Manuel wouldn’t tell reporters whatwords were exchanged or why he was arguing. “That’s be-tween Bob and I,” he said. “I don’t need to say [why].”

If you were to combine CocoChanel’s trademark black-and-white aesthetic withthe pop quality of, say, a
Diet Coke can, you’d get the eyecandy that is Elizabeth Kiester’sNew York apartment. Perhapsnot surprisingly for a fashioneditor-turned-creative director, her home is a seamless exten-sion of her wardrobe.
“My entire place is groundedin black and white with pops ofcolor — mostly red. It nevergoes out of style,” she explains, also describing her trademarksartorial look. “I match myapartment every day!”
She accessorizes her placewith graphic Marimekkolinens, knickknacks purchasedin Tokyo and religious iconscollected from all over theworld, in the same maximalistway that she would style ablack tailored suit. “I am not aminimalist. I love accessories inmy home and on my person —stacks of bangles and chunkyjewelry, oversized glasses andhats,” she adds. If she soundslike a pro at this, it’s becauseshe is in a way. “My mom wasan interior decorator and mysister is one. So I think it runsin my blood.”
