Workshop Registration 2012

This year, your Iberia Parish Library’s Summer Workshop Program celebrates its 29th year of existence with workshops. A special thanks goes to the New Iberia Optimist Club in celebration of its 28th year as a major workshop sponsor. Over the years the club has not only been a major financial support for the workshops, but individual members have given hundreds of hours as volunteers. Our appreciation extends to the Friends of the Library, and Teche Federal Bank for their generous grants to ensure our workshops are top-notch. Registration will take place the week of May 13 - 18 during the Parkview & St. Peter Library’s normal hours, St. Peter Library will be open on Sunday, May 13. If the Main Library reopens during this time, registration forms can be turned in there as well. Registration forms may be downloaded from the library’s website: www.iberia.lib.la.us or picked up at any branch of the library system. On Saturday, May 19 forms may ONLY be turned in at the Main Library’s Large Meeting Room from 8:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m. The completed forms will be enclosed in an unmarked envelope and placed in a pool, and a public drawing will determine the registration number. Any openings that remain after the initial registration week will be assigned to latecomers on a first-come, first-served basis. Registration is simple. Look at the catalog or listings online at your leisure, and then pick up a registration form during registration week. May 13 - 19. Fill in the form with your requested workshops and return it to the St. Peter Library Sunday - Friday, the Parkview Library Monday - Friday, or on Saturday at the Main Library any time before 10 a.m. Families or individuals wanting the same workshops should group their registrations into one envelope, which the library supplies. Library staff will review your form when you turn it in, and about two weeks after registration you will receive notice of which workshops you are registered in and for which ones you are an alternate. Please do not register more than once. Multiple registrations will be automatically cancelled. List your workshop choices, as many as seven, in order of preference. While you are limited to being fully registered for only two workshops (depending on the availability of the workshops selected), you may be listed as an alternate for as many as five more, and we encourage you to register for all those that interest you, up to the seven-choice limit. The library reserves the right to evict any person whose behavior is disruptive from the workshops. This program is supported by grants from the New Iberia Optimist Club, Teche Federal Bank, and Friends of the Iberia Library with additional support from Kappa Kappa Iota Sorority, Beta Tau Enclave. Without the support of these generous groups, workshop leaders and assistants, the summer program would not exist.

On Thursday, July 26 beginning at 6:00 p.m. there will be a celebration of all things Summer. You are invited to bring family and friends to view artwork created during the summer workshops. Meet fellow workshop participants, as well as some of the instructors and sponsors. We are grateful to all workshop leaders and sponsors, but it is the participants that complete the workshops. MN 66 Wednesday, July 25 2:00 - 5:00 p.m. 10 - 17 year olds

Registration Tips 1. You may select second sessions of the same workshop if the age

requirement for both workshops is the same. Choosing both sessions increases your chances for getting in, but you will only be successfully registered in one.

2. Note the number of participants in each workshop. If you draw a high number, your chances of getting in a workshop taking only 10 is not as good as in sessions taking 20 - 40 participants.

3. Do sign up for as many as 7 workshops if they interest you. This improves your chances of getting several selections.

4. Try something new! Some workshops are repeated for several years and the basic information will be the same. So be adventurous and try something new!

5. You can only be ONE age! If your birthday is in June, July or August you may choose to be the older age.

6. Do not be dismayed if you are put on the alternates (waiting) list. There are many cancellations during the summer, and those on the list are called. Be sure to list a correct phone number where you can be reached easiest in the summer.

7. Please call the library to cancel if you can not make a workshop, this way those on the waiting list have a chance.

8. You will receive your list of registered workshops in the mail after Friday, May 25th. Should you have any questions or fail to receive the form, please call the Main Library at 364-7024 after Tuesday, May 29.

9. Please feel free to ask the staff for information about and help with the workshop registration process. If you have any questions, suggestions for next summer or ideas, feel free to email [email protected].

Thank you for participating and have a GREAT Summer!
