Council Wide Call-Out System dispatch: 1-908-782-0911
Diana Akeret, President Pat Pittore, Temp. Secretary Jerry Innella, Vice President Laura LoPresti, Treasurer
A man with Alzheimer’s wanders away from home; a hunter or hiker is missing; a group of school children are stranded in a flood. The ability to save a life is often dependent upon how quickly the person can be found and accessed. Exposure to the elements is the #1 killer for lost subjects. The missing person’s survival may rest on timely response from well equipped and highly trained Search and Rescue individuals. Search is an Emergency!
The Search & Rescue Council of New Jersey is comprised of numerous unpaid professional Search and Rescue teams in the State of New Jersey and surrounding area. These teams offer different types of search resources such as Search Management & Planning, Ground Searchers, and Canines (air-scenting, tracking/trailing, human remains detection). Some council teams have specialized expertise in Cave, Mountain, Avalanche, and Technical Rescue. All of these services are available at No Cost!
The SARCNJ teams have accreditation through various nationally accredited organizations such as
the National Association for Search & Rescue, Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, National Parks Service, and New York Department of Environmental Conservation.
The objective of the SARCNJ teams is to establish a comprehensive and methodological approach
in responding to missing and overdue subjects and to provide the Incident Commander with suggestions on proper use of search and rescue resources and tactics.
This Search and Rescue Resource document is designed to provide municipalities and responsible authorities with contact information for search & rescue (SAR) groups throughout New Jersey and surrounding areas. Resources have been regionalized for efficiency in identifying local resources nearest to the incident. The SARCNJ recommends that each municipality/authority contact their appropriate SAR group(s) and discuss their individual capabilities. The SARCNJ also suggests making copies of the following page to use as a quick reference guide for dispatching resources. When search personnel are needed, you may contact teams directly, or choose to utilize our Council Wide Call-Out System dispatched through Hunterdon County Communications: 1-908-782-0911.
Respectfully,
Diana L. Akeret Diana L. Akeret
