(ARA) - With the days getting shorter and the temperature dropping, fall is in full swing. That means it's time to put away the patio furniture and spruce up your home with new seasonal items, colors and tex-tures.

Harvest HuesThink that fall is all about traditional browns and oranges? Think again. The color experts at Krylon, the nation's lead-ing spray paint manufacturer, curated a palette called "Indigenous" as part of its 2012 color trends, which includes hues that are perfect for the fall season. "There is a primal energy to this palette," says Donna Schroeder, manager of Color + Design at Krylon. "As we look deeper into the forest, our search for connection brings us to an untouched and pure palette of greens and browns that please the environ-mentalist in us all," she adds.   This palette includes earthy shades of green, like Hunter, Citrus and Fern; as well as a warm, gray neutral called Pebble, and warm

reddish accents, like Burgundy, that are great for seasonal decorating.

Warming indoor accentsJust because Halloween and Thanksgiving are the major holidays in fall, it doesn't mean you should only deck your home with pumpkins, goblins or turkeys. There are plenty of ways to incorporate the look and feel of the season with textures, fin-ishes and accent pieces. As the weather gets cooler, add colorful blankets and throws in different weaves to add interest to your ex-isting furniture. Engage all your senses by incorporating scented candles throughout your home - fall staples like apple, caramel and cinnamon will make every room more warm and inviting.

Don't feel like you need to buy all new decor for the season. Spray paint is a simple and inexpensive way to update existing items you may already have around the house, like candlesticks, a serving tray or picture frames in the new fashionable colors.

Once you have found the items that you want to makeover, lightly sand them to en-sure a smooth surface.  Next wipe down the surface to remove any dust or de-bris. Apply even coats of primer and then add the color of your choice from Krylon's "Indigenous" palette, like Citrus Green, which is available in the Indoor/Outdoor spray paint line. Not only will it dry to the touch in 10 minutes or less, but it will also deliver an exceptionally durable and smooth finish, leaving your painted items looking perfect.

As a focal point in living rooms, the mantel is an ideal location to display your new beau-tiful fall creations. Adding lighted elements, like lanterns or candles, can also bring ad-ditional warmth to the room. Don't have a mantel? Don't worry - instead, your dining table can be made over to display your sea-sonal decor pieces. To protect the top from any scratches or stains, place a runner un-derneath your new tablescape. Burlap is a perfect choice for this time of year, helping

you bring the look and feel of fall right into your dining room.

Welcome your guestsOnce your indoors are looking grand, fo-cus on outdoor elements, such as the front porch, to create a welcoming feel for trick-or-treaters or holiday guests. Easily trans-form boring, clay pots with a few coats of spray paint; try one of the season's richest colors, like Hunter Green, for a woodsy feel. Once dry, add mums in gold or purple and place them on your porch. Continue your makeover with a new door mat and wreath on your front door. Not only will you in-crease your home's curb appeal, you'll also show guests that they're welcome in your home.

Don't wait until December to begin deco-rating for the season. Fall is the perfect time to make an impact and showcase your design style and vibrant new seasonal colors throughout any area of the house. For more information on Krylon products or projects, visit www.krylon.com.

(ARA) - Now that summer is over you might not be showing as much skin, but that doesn't mean you should stop taking care of it. Colder months present unique challenges for keeping skin moisturized, pro-tected and smooth.

By following the tips below during the fall and winter months, you can avoid dryness, itching and other skin damage associated with dry, cold weather - and you can enjoy the benefits of healthy skin even when the climate is working against you:

* Moisturize. Keeping the moisture level up in your skin is important all year-round, but it's an absolute necessity when the dry, cold air of winter arrives. When the dryness becomes especially persistent and intense, it's important to opt for a lotion that's up to the task of protecting and moisturizing your skin. For those extremely dry times where you can't seem to lather up with enough lotion, Eucerin Professional Repair Extremely Dry Skin Lotion can help. It has an advanced formula en-hanced with Gluco-Glycerol that moisturizes for more than 24 hours and alleviates extremely dry skin -- and recently earned the Good Housekeeping Seal.

* Humidify. You can't change the weather outside, but you can modify the climate indoors. If you find yourself con-stantly suffering from dry skin, try sleeping in a room with a humidifier, so skin can take a break from being exposed to dry air.

* Protect yourself from the sun. Even though the weather isn't warm in most places, the sun can still harm skin dur-ing the winter months, so be sure to apply sunscreen before

heading outdoors for extended periods. Do your skin two favors at once by using a lotion that also features SPF protection, such as Eucerin Daily Protection SPF 15 Moisturizing Body Lotion. Don't forget lip balm with skin-protecting agents as well.

* Bundle up. The best way to avoid the wrath of cold, winter air is to put a barrier between it and your skin. Wearing gloves will both keep your hands warm and help prevent dry knuckles, which are so common in fall and winter. Cover the sensitive skin on your ears and neck with a hat and a scarf.

* Adjust bathing habits. A piping hot shower may feel like just what you need on a cold day, but skin care ex-perts recommend turning it down a bit in temperature for a more skin-friendly wash. Use gentle soaps and

cleaners that allow your skin to retain as much of its natural moisture as possible.

By implementing these few simple tips to keep your skin safe from harsh weather and replace the moisture it will nat-urally lose, you'll be able to enjoy some of the year's coziest months in comfort. For more skin care tips and products, visit www.eucerinUS.com.

Shifting your skin care approach for colder weather(ARA) - As summer subsides, people may lose sight of their weight loss goals until the start of the New Year. And the temptation of unhealthy holiday treats right around the corner may make it even more difficult to stay on track. But the fall can serve as the perfect time to commit to fight-ing fat with a healthier approach to eating and being active.

"With over two-thirds of U.S. adults overweight or obese, this is creating a staggering burden of disease," says Dr. Caroline Apovian, director of the Nutrition and Weight Management Center and co-director of the Nutri-tion and Metabolic Support Service at Boston University Medical Center. "It's important for people to under-stand that reaching a healthy weight through safe, moderate weight-loss (5 to 10 percent) is a critical step toward reducing the risks associated with obesity."

For many people, alli - the only FDA approved over-the-counter weight-loss aid - can help achieve this goal. Alli is clinically proven to help people lose 50 percent more weight than they would with diet alone. So, for every two pounds you'd lose through diet and exercise, alli helps you lose one more.

Apovian shares even more tips to help you fight unhealthy fat through fall and beyond:

* Know your nemesis. Become more conscious of the foods, amount of fat you eat, and how it affects your body.

* Stay committed. It's not always easy to stay on track with weight loss - re-mind yourself as necessary (weekly, even daily) of your healthy motiva-tion to fight fat.

* Try something new. There are plen-

ty of seasonal healthy foods that not only taste good but are good for you. A low fat snack could be a baked ap-ple with cinnamon or pumpkin soup.

* Build a support system. Online or in-person support groups, as well as encouragement from family and friends, can make all the difference in the world.

* Find tools. Visit www.myalli.com for more information on how alli can help you safely and effectively boost your weight loss success.

EDITOR'S NOTE:Dr. Apovian is a paid spokesperson for alli, but her opinions are her own.*Alli is a weight loss aid for overweight adults, 18 years and older. Alli is taken with a reduced calorie low-fat diet.**Results may vary. In clinical stud-ies, alli users lost 5-10 pounds over six months.

(ARA) - With cooler temperatures on the way, there's no better time to finish checking items off the home improve-ment to-do list. Several projects are "must-do's" and should be completed before the harsher weather arrives. Most are simple enough to accomplish in just a couple days.

Complete these projects this weekend and spend the rest of fall enjoying your home and family.

Paint it: Fall is the perfect season for painting, as you're able to open your windows just enough to keep the air clean as you apply a fresh coat of color to interior walls. Painting is a quick - and doable -weekend project that provides instant results. Purdy Professional Painting Tools can help you com-plete every project quickly and perfectly. Consider updat-ing a guest bath or adding an accent wall to your favorite room. A helpful tool for painting small areas is the Jumbo Mini-Roller by Purdy. The 4 1/2-inch and 6 1/2-inch covers allow you to attain a perfect-looking paint finish and cover those hard-to-reach or small areas. Faux treatments are also coming back in style. To create a room that's on-trend, pick up a Symphony Faux Finishing Tool and add a "wash" or

"texture" to your favorite space for an even more custom-ized appearance.

Inspect it: Regardless of the type of heat source used in your home, be sure to schedule an annual inspection before the temperatures drop. This will save the expense of having it checked during the busy season and reduce the risk of spending a few days in a cold home with a broken furnace. If your home has a fireplace and chimney, hire a professional chimney sweep to remove any debris that could catch fire and wreak havoc on your home.

Winterize it: Cover grills and air conditioner units and store outdoor furniture in a shed to prevent rust and dam-age from the elements. Winterize any pipes that are exposed to outdoor temperatures, and consider installing door and window draft guards to keep your home warm and efficient.

Protect it: Newly installed decks and permanent, wooden furniture require protective stains or varnishes. Be sure to apply the proper protection to the surfaces prior to the ar-rival of weather that could damage any untreated wood. If your deck is older and requires a facelift, use a Purdy Prep

Tool, such as a wire brush, to scrape away and remove the existing treatment to ensure the proper refinishing of the surface.

Spruce it up: Give all shrubs and the lawn one last trim be-fore winter to keep your home's curb appeal looking great well beyond the first frost of the season. Remove seasonal plants that won't last the winter to also ensure the outside of your home looks well-maintained throughout the com-ing seasons. If it looks too bare for your liking, consider a few potted mums on the porch or stoop for added fall color. Keeping the plants in pots will save the effort of digging into the frozen ground when their life span is through. Repaint-ing exterior doors during this time is a fun way to make a statement and deliver an entirely new look to the outside of your home. Add a wreath or swag to your newly painted door to showcase your personal style.

By taking the proper precautions and completing these weekend projects, you'll save time and money, all while keeping your home well-maintained, looking great and ready for the winter.

(ARA) - After spending the summer enjoying the outdoors, it can be a little bittersweet to get the deck and yard ready for the cooler days ahead. The good news is getting outdoor areas ready for winter doesn't have to be a time-consuming process. A few simple steps can minimize extra work when warmer weather rolls around again. For each area of the yard, there are a few procedures that can save you big headaches in the long run.

start WitH tHe deckThe many homeowners that put a lot of time and money into building a deck know the importance of preserving that investment. A wood deck should be stained annually, how-ever, many homeowners are turning to low-maintenance composite decking and railings, as composite options by manufacturers like TimberTech offer high-end aesthetics with low-maintenance qualities.

But that doesn't mean that composite decks are mainte-nance-free. TimberTech provides a 25-year warranty on all of its products, and with some simple annual maintenance, they can be kept looking great for years to come. The com-pany's decking experts recommend the following tips for composite deck care and cleaning:

* Clear all debris to prohibit mold and mildew growth.

* When using a cleaner, be sure to use one that's compatible with your decking material and follow the instructions.

* Using a pressure washer is a great way to get a deep clean, but it's best not to exceed a pressure greater than 1,500 psi.

laWn care tipsIn addition to raking to keep the yard clear of leaves, de-

thatching can prevent a buildup of above-ground roots that can be a detriment to soil health. Aerating in the fall can also help lawns recover from a summer of heavy use, providing much needed oxygen for the turf's roots. After particularly dry summers, it doesn't hurt to water trees with a soaker hose or root irrigator so they have some water to help them survive the winter. Fall is also the time to clear out both garden and flower beds, as you'll thank yourself in the spring for doing the work before winter set in. Be sure to get your fall-planting flower bulbs in before the ground freezes as well.

around tHe HouseClearing all gutters of debris should be an annual fall task, as all the fallen leaves can easily jam up downspouts, which can damage gutters or cause ice dams in colder climates. It's also a good idea to clear the areas around the foundation of the house, as pests like to make their homes there when the weather gets cold.

By spending a temperate autumn day outside preparing your outdoor spaces for winter, you'll eliminate extra work for yourself in the spring. For more deck care tips, visit www.timbertech.com.

Should you 'winterize' your pet?(ARA) - The arrival of autumn signals many changes in the household, from switching from salads to soups to pulling sweaters out of storage to changing furnace filters. With pets, however, you may need to think as much about what you don't change as what you do.

Chicago veterinarian Dr. Shelly Rubin is well acquainted with the dramatic temperature swings that accompany the change of seasons, as well as how to help pets and owners cope with them. Following is his list of fall do's and don'ts for pet owners.

* Don't “fall” off the exercise wagon. With days getting shorter - and cooler - it can be tempt-ing to skip your early morning or evening walk. But with more than half of all pets in the U.S. being overweight or obese, exercise is vital. A daily walk, or several shorter walks, can rev the metabolism of both two- and four-legged walk-ers for hours.

* Do ensure your pet is outfitted for cooler weather. Small, light-bodied breeds, dogs with very short hair and older dogs with weakened immune systems are likely to need a sweater when venturing outside. And once cold and snowy weather sets in, dogs may require pro-

tective footwear to keep their paw pads from freezing.

* Don't assume that cooler weather eliminates the threat of diseases like heartworm, which are spread by infected mosquitoes. Mosquitoes have been known to survive well into the winter months, thanks to indoor havens and protected microclimates existing within larger, cooler climate zones. For this reason, the American Heartworm Society recommends year-round heartworm protection for both dogs and cats.

* Do ensure your senior pet has a warm, draft-free place to sleep. Many older dogs and cats suffer from arthritis. Just as sore joints in people tend to feel worse in cold weather, so it is with pets. A warm cozy bed can make nights - and mornings - more comfortable.

* Do be sensitive to your pets' feelings if fall brings changes to your household. Just like people, pets can get depressed. And if you're missing a son or daughter who has moved away to start college or a job, chances are your family pet is also feeling the loss. Spending time with your pet and giving him an extra measure of cuddling and affection will help both of you feel better.

(ARA) - Which vaccinations should adults get? If you an-swered, "I don't know," don't worry - you're not alone. A new national survey of adults in the United States re-veals that more than two-thirds don't know which vac-cinations they need beyond just the flu shot. Adults need vaccinations not only to protect themselves from serious diseases but also to prevent spreading illnesses to their family, friends and other loved ones. Millions of Ameri-cans get sick from diseases that can be prevented by vac-cines each year, causing them to miss work and leaving them unable to care for those who depend on them, in-cluding children and aging parents.

Even though many diseases can now be prevented by vaccines, there are still nearly 1 million cases of shingles (which is caused by the chickenpox virus) in the United States every year, and almost one out of three people will develop shingles in their lifetime. Also, cases of whoop-ing cough have increased significantly within the last year - there have been 26,000 cases of whooping cough reported in the United States as of early September, which is more than twice as many reported at this time last year.

To help people get the vaccinations they need, Sam's Club is offering 10 vaccines this cold and flu season at all locations with a pharmacy. In partnership with Mol-len Immunization Clinics, the retailer is providing an expanded menu of vaccines administered by registered nurses through Nov. 15.

Specific vaccines include the following:

"Many adults have not received one or more of the vacci-nations that they should be getting, and undervaccinated communities are at a higher risk for local outbreaks of disease," says Jill Turner-Mitchael, senior vice president of Sam's Club health and wellness. "By offering these

vaccines this year, we continue to help our communities live healthy at a low cost and remarkable value."

New guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommend that everyone older than 6 months old should receive a flu shot every year. Each year in the United States, one in five people (about 20 percent of the population) is infected with the flu. Get-ting vaccinated against the flu is important because it is a serious disease that can lead to hospitalization and sometimes even death. Additionally, getting vaccinated with Tdap at least two weeks before coming into close contact with an infant is especially important for families with and caregivers of new infants.

Keeping breakfast part of the morning routine(ARA) - Fitting breakfast into your kids' morning routine can be a struggle, especially during the school week. Between nagging them to get out of bed and pre-paring their book bags for school, breakfast is often put at the bottom of the morning to-do list. In fact, up to 30 percent of middle and high school students skip breakfast, missing important nutrients that are unlikely to be made up later in the day.

That means more than a quarter of students are go-ing to school on an empty stomach and lack the nutri-tion they need to start their day right. Furthermore, research has shown that kids and adolescents who eat breakfast tend to have better dietary habits and make healthier eating choices throughout the day.

The breakfast struggle is something even actress and mother of four, Holly Robinson Peete can relate to. "One of my biggest challenges as a mom is to make sure my kids get breakfast. With busy mornings, it is essential that my kids get the nutrition they need," says Robinson Peete. "I want to set my kids up for success, especially during the school year. Knowing there are easy, nutritious options such as Carnation Breakfast Essentials puts my mind at ease that I am making

good choices for my kids."

But even the most dedicated breakfast lovers have mornings that are just too crazy to find time to eat. Robinson Peete un-derstands how busy schedules can make it difficult to keep up good habits. "I like to describe my mornings as 'controlled madness' - on a good day I have less than an hour to get my kids out of bed, showered and dressed, teeth brushed, fed and out the door to school," she says. That's why she gives her kids

Carnation Breakfast Essential, a nutritious and conve-nient drink which can fit in a backpack and be enjoyed during the morning commute.

One way to help minimize stress in the morning is to prepare things like lunches and backpacks the evening before. If that's not possible, designating a spot in the house for backpacks and school items to remain can help reduce the amount of organizing that is needed in the morning. Another simple tip is to wake up 10 minutes earlier. Just a few extra minutes at the start of the day can leave time for a quick breakfast.

Physicians agree that a good breakfast is important. Each serving of Carnation Breakfast Essentials provides a rich source of protein and 21 vitamins and minerals, including twice the protein of an egg, twice the calcium

of a 6-ounce cup of yogurt, twice the vitamin D of an 8-ounce glass of milk and twice the vitamin C of a 4-ounce cup of orange juice.

To find information and helpful tips on nutrition, to access hundreds of delicious recipes and to download a coupon, visit www.carnationbreakfastessentials.com or the Carnation Breakfast Essentials Facebook page.

One easy decision when building a house...

... choose natural gas for your energy needs.

(ARA) - Fall is a great time to tackle some of those home improvement projects. Now that the summer vacations are over and children are back in school, you're ready to make your home all comfy and cozy before the deep freeze and holiday guests arrive.

Consider starting with your bathroom first, since this is a room frequently used both by your family and guests. If your bathroom is dated in decor, aged in function and behind the times in energy efficiency, you'll be doing your home and your pocketbook a good service by up-grading some features. Here's how:

* Beautiful visuals: The bathroom vanity is the first fea-ture in the room people will see. Incorporate a contem-porary new look in your bath that will earn admiring glances from your guests with TOTO's Maris Semi-Recessed Vessel Lavatory. With a sleek design and deep basin, this semi-recessed lavatory has a nano-technology glaze applied that helps prevent bacteria and soap de-bris from sticking to its surfaces. Because of this, you'll use fewer harsh chemicals to keep the sink clean, which saves you money and is better for the environment. Pair

the lavatory with the Aquia Single Handle Faucet from TOTO for a seamless and stylish finish. This high-effi-ciency faucet is made from solid brass and is WaterSense approved.

* Warmer flooring: There's nothing worse than bare feet on a cold floor - especially in the morning. Tile floor-ing looks beautiful in bathrooms, but can leave the feet feeling a bit chilled. Place a soft and decorative rug in front of the sink, the shower and the toilet to help al-leviate cold toes. Look for rugs that match the color and decor of the room. Or use the rugs as an accent color to brighten up the space.

* Efficient commodes: Upgrading your toilet to a high-efficiency unit will make a noticeable difference on your water bill. Consider the Universal Design Maris Dual-Flush Toilet from TOTO, which has clean, contempo-rary lines, a recessed-curve tank, and skirted design that saves on cleaning time. Its state-of-the-art, gravity-fed flushing system puts an end to a common complaint many dual flush toilet owners have - "flush 'n brush," the need to brush the bowl to remove streaking after ev-

ery solid stop.

* New linens: A quick and simple upgrade for your bath-room includes replacing towels and the shower curtain. To introduce a calm and restful spa-like ambiance, find new linens in colors that blend with the colors on the walls. Or go bold with vibrant accents and splashes of color to give your room a sense of energy.

* Elegant tiling: Prefab showers are easy and convenient, but they can look aged and stained after long use. To really spruce up the look of your shower area in the bath-room, consider tiling the surround, or installing large glass pieces painted to match the color of the room. You'll be amazed at how beautiful the shower will ap-pear, and you may decide that you won't want to hang a curtain to block the view of the beautiful surround, and instead opt for a sliding glass door.

Once you see how beautiful your renovated bathroom appears, you'll probably want to get started sprucing up the rest of your house. In the meantime, enjoy the bathroom, as well as the compliments you'll receive from your visiting guests.

Easy and affordable ways to spruce up your space(ARA) - When seasons change, it's also a good time to change out and update your home decor. Time and bud-get don't always allow for a complete overhaul, so here are some easy and affordable ways to rejuvenate your home.

reuse, repaint, reupHolsterWhen you think creatively, it's easy to give old belong-ings new life. Paint wooden frames or potted plant hold-ers with new, bold colors to quickly add a hint of color to any area. Reupholster pillows with patterned fabric to liven up any room. Many craft stores sell scrap fabric for a fraction of the price. Or, spend even less when you re-purpose gently used clothes by turning them into custom pillowcases.

simple sWaps and sWitcHesTry a new take on a traditional favorite. Candles are an easy way to add instant ambiance to any room. New En-ergizer Flameless Wax Candles are a long-lasting alternative that gives the same beautiful look and feel of traditional candles. Made with real wax, these candles create the same warm glow and realistic flicker of a flame with LEDs that never need replacing. The convenient four-, six- or eight-hour timer means you never have to worry about "blowing" them out.

One of the reasons decor can feel worn and dated is sim-ply because it's familiar to you. And, wall decor is one area that can be particularly pricey to update. An easy way to renew interest in existing mirrors and art is by switching their location in the home. Once it has been relocated to another room, you'll find a new appreciation for something that's been overlooked for years.

create focal pointsAffordable accessories are a simple way to update your space and help create focal points and pops of color throughout each room. Consider hanging different-sized picture frames together in clusters above a large piece of furniture, like a table, sofa or bed. Grouping frames cre-ates one piece of eye-catching artwork to spark conversa-tion. For a more vibrant look, paint frames in various bright colors. For a sophisticated look, stick with a uni-form color of all white or black.

Display groups of colored vases or candles on tables, bookshelves or windowsills to draw eyes to one or two focal points. Flameless wax candles come in different col-ors, sizes, heights, scents and textures to fit any decor. Don't be afraid to mix it up: pair candles in glass jars with pillars, use different heights and colors, awaken the

senses with scented candles and create beautiful candles-capes anywhere for the perfect atmosphere. Because these candles have no open flame, they are safe to use around children and pets, in small spaces and near curtains or furniture.

With a little imagination, it's easy and affordable to spruce up your space and add ambiance to your home everyday.

Protecting your home against winter's 'silent killer'(ARA) - It's colorless, odorless and the No. 1 cause of accidental poisoning in the Unit-ed States. And, it worsens in the winter.

Known as the "silent killer," carbon mon-oxide (CO) is responsible for an average of 450 deaths and 20,000 emergency room visits each year, according to the Journal of the American Medical Association. With more than two-fifths of all CO poisonings occurring between December and February, homeowners are at increased risk once tem-peratures begin to drop.

"During the winter months, many fami-lies turn to heating sources they might not use at other times of the year," says Debo-rah Hanson, director of external affairs for First Alert, the most trusted name in home safety. "While these heating sources may be effective at providing warmth, they also can pose great risks if not used properly. To help protect loved ones from the dangers of CO poisoning, it is important for homeowners to take proper precautions when dealing

with any kind of fuel-burning heat source."

First Alert recommends the following tips and tools for keeping your home and loved ones warm - and safe - this winter and all year long:

protect against co poisoningRun kitchen vents or exhaust fans any time the stove is in use. The kitchen stove is among the most frequent sources of CO poisoning in the home. To help eliminate danger of overexposure, never use the oven to heat a home. Always run exhaust fans when cooking, especially during the holi-days when stoves are left on for longer pe-riods of time. Also, open a nearby window periodically when cooking to allow fresh air to circulate.

Never use generators indoors. In the case of a power outage, portable electricity genera-tors must be used outside only with power brought into the structure with a cord. Nev-er use them inside the home, in a garage or

in any confined area that can allow CO to collect. And be careful to follow operating in-structions closely. Also refrain from using charcoal grills, camp stoves or other similar devices indoors.

Have fuel-burning appliances inspected regularly. Arrange for a professional inspection of all fireplaces and fuel-burn-ing appliances - such as fur-naces, stoves, clothes dryers, water heaters and space heat-ers - annually to detect any CO leaks.

Be mindful of the garage. Warming the car in the morning before work is common during the winter months, but running ve-hicles inside an attached garage, even if the door is open, is hazardous, as CO can leak into the home.

Install/test CO alarms. Carbon monox-ide alarms are the only way to detect this

poisonous gas in a home. For maximum protection, alarms should be installed on every level of the home and near each sleep-ing area. Test alarm function monthly and change batteries every six months. In addi-tion, alarms should be replaced every five to seven years to ensure proper function. If the installation date is unknown, replace imme-diately.

For more information on carbon monoxide safety, visit www.firstalert.com.
