Welcome Back Competitors, Sponsors and Friends, As EMG enters our 23rd year of producing Equestrian Events in Caledon, let us take this opportunity once again to thank all of you for the support. 2012 brings many new and exciting opportunities that we hope you will enjoy. This year we will actually see the beginning of the major re-build and development of our venue in preparation for the 2015 Pan Am Games. While doing this major rebuild we will make every effort to insure that all of the events at the Caledon Equestrian Park will continue with as little interrup-tion as possible. We are delighted to have Ram Trucks, as a major corporate partner, return to the park this year. It is your support of their products that has allowed them to continue this valuable sponsorship. Once again we would like to extend our thanks to all our corporate friends that support the park and our sport. Whatever your needs are, we would appre-ciate you giving our supporters and sponsors the opportunity to assist you. Thanks to the feedback we have received from you we have initiated several new pro-grams that we hope will make your experience with us more enjoyable. We will now accept credit cards for payment of your invoices. New technologies will be introduced this year allowing the majority of you to attend to all of your office work online from the comfort of your home and the convenience of your electronic devices. We will be phas-ing in these technologies as the season moves forward. These developments will make check out, add/scratches, and other changes, more convenient for all exhibitors. Train-ers will no longer be responsible for client invoices not paid at the end of a competition, however we will not release the ring number for any horse that has an outstanding balance from previous weeks until the matter is resolved. We have also added an Amateur Owner 3’ Hunter Division. This is a new pilot program that we hope will improve the showing experience for our Adult competitors. Further-more with the suspension of the National Young Horse program, we have joined a group of interested riders and owners and will offer 2 sets of qualifying classes for the new program. Our Grand Prix classes in May will be qualifiers for the Pfizer $1 Million Grand Prix held in Saugerties, New York on September 9th, 2012. We have made some changes to our schedules to better reflect the wishes of our com-petitors. You will see that on some weeks the Grand Prix classes will take place on Sat-urday afternoons. We will combine this with a barbeque to add some entertainment to your weekend. Horses are now permitted to compete in both the modified Grand Prix’s and other Grand Prix classes. Finally, over the winter we have worked hard to identify areas that we can improve the experience for our customers. We have had lots of suggestions and hope that we will be able to meet or exceed your expectations. I have initiated a program where Customer Service is Job One; I encourage all of you to communicate to me areas that need im-provement. We look forward to a great season and Best of Luck to each of you! Craig

Equine Canada Statement of Principles

Equine Canada (EC), the national equestrian federation of Canada, supports adherence to humane treatment of horses in all activities under its jurisdiction.

EC is committed to: • Upholding the welfare of the horses, regardless of value, as a primary consideration in all activities; • Requiring that horses be treated with kindness, respect and the compassion that they deserve, and that they never be subjected to mistreatment; • Ensuring that owners, trainers and exhibitors or their agents use responsible care in the handling, treatment and transportation of their horses as well as horses placed in their care for any purpose; • Providing for the continuous well-being of horses by encouraging routine inspection and consultation with health care professionals and competition officials to achieve the highest possible standards of nutrition, health, comfort and safety as a matter of standard operating procedure; • Continuing to support scientific studies on equine health and welfare; • Requiring owners, trainers and exhibitors to know and follow their sanctioning organization’s rules, and to work within industry regulations in all equestrian competition; • Reviewing, revising and developing competition rules and regulations that protect the welfare of the horses.

The standard by which conduct or treatment will be measured is that which a person, informed and experienced in generally accepted equine training

and exhibition procedures, would determine to be neither cruel, abusive nor inhumane.

Any horse entered in any class at an EC Sanctioned Competition may, while on competition grounds be selected for equine medication control testing.
