Community Service Since 1907 APRIL 2012 PRESIDENT S MESSAGE We promised you a very special evening in a breathtaking environment, and the Spring Gala lived up to its promise. We exceeded even our own expectations. We were hoping for 150 people. Much to our delight there were over 200 people mixing, mingling, bidding and honoring Mr. G. We needed the auction to bring in at least as much as last year’s weekend event. When the evening ended we had gone well over our goal. This was a win-win event for everyone. We have enough money on hand to match our community projects grants—the reputation of the Norwich Women’s Club as an organization that knows how to throw a good party has been enhanced—we gained some new members—and we now have a template and a date for next year’s Spring Gala. Take out your calendars and reserve MARCH 15, 2013 for the event you won’t want to miss. With the Spring Gala behind us, it is time to focus on the Nearly New Sale. We need volunteer workers, shoppers, and of course, donors and consignors. We thought spring was here, always a good time to clean out your closets. As I am writing this and watching the snowflakes flying, I guess we will have to wait for spring a little longer. But please don’t wait to add your name to the list of volunteers. It’s a great way to meet new people and renew old acquaintances. If you misplaced the hot pink notice you received in the mail, just go to our website www.norwichwomensclub.org and click on volunteer opportunities. Follow the easy instructions to find out what is involved and how to sign up. While you are there, look at the other upcoming events and check out the wonderful pictures from the Spring Gala. I hope to see many of you at our inaugural 10:00 AM coffee and conversation at the Norwich Inn on April 16. SPRING GALA 2012 Tracy Hall was transformed for a night and over 200 people came to honor John Girard. The support of the Norwich Community, the generosity of the Donors to the Silent Auction, and the financial assistance of Ledyard National Bank helped us to gross over $21,000 in one evening. After expenses there will be approximately $16,000 to use for our 2012 Community Projects Grants. Please go to www.norwichwomensclub.org to view pictures of the evening and check out the list of auction donors. We can support them and be sure to say “thank-you” for supporting the Norwich Women’s Club. The Gala Committee, volunteers and students came together and made an evening to remember. Thank you for the creativity, laughter, support and flexibility on a first time adventure. One word sums it up: Awesome Carol Loveland Chair Spring Gala 2012 WANTED: A technologically savvy volunteer to work with Deb Hall on maintaining our database. You would need to have access to a computer with Microsoft Access database software. (To find out more contact Deb Hall at [email protected], or 649-1263.)

Spring 2012

Nearly New Sale Commencing

Elaine Waterman, Chair Not long ago we were enjoying record-breaking temps, and now it’s back to chilly temps, gray

days and even a snow flurry or two. Though Mother Nature isn’t on track with her calendar, the Spring 2012 Nearly New Sale is. The hot pink announcements have been mailed, pre-consignment packets are available (call Priscilla @ 649-1807), and e-mail recruitment begins on Wednesday, April 4th and ends of April 18th. PLEASE be sure to respond to the “call” – even if you are not available for this sale; it saves volunteer time phoning you until we have a response.

The success of all our sales not only depends on the quality of clothing for consignment, but it also depends on the many VOLUNTEERS who work the various shifts. The window for this sale is Wednesday, May 2 for set-up thru clean-up on Sunday, May 6. THE NNS NEEDS YOU - so if you miss your opportunity to volunteer during e-mail recruitment or miss the phone call, please contact Debbie Carter, Volunteer Coordinator, at 649-1216. Each segment of the sale flows when there is a full roster of volunteers. Volunteers get to shop first on Friday, May 4, from 4 – 6 pm, prior to the Grand Opening.

Please bring CLEAN paper shopping bags with handles and

CLEAN Coop bags to Tracy Hall during NNS window
