2011-12 SEASON RECAP — Overall Record: 23-7 overall, 12-2 AMC Last year was an historic one for the Point Park Pioneers with a school record for wins, and first-ever conference title and national tournament
appearance. The season started out with a loss at Mt. Vernon Nazarene, but the Pioneers followed that up with an impressive 2-0 sweep at the
Rio Grande Bevo Francis Tournament to win the championship there. Then the Pioneers hit a rough stretch of the schedule in which they
played four games in five days. After coming out of those games with two wins and two losses, the overall record stood at 5-4.
It was at that point that the Pioneers hit their stride. Starting with a slim, 56-54 win at Carnegie Mellon Dec. 10, the Pioneers rattled off a school-
record 13-straight wins for an 18-4 record by Feb. 4. The streak included a perfect, 9-0 start to the AMC schedule. The biggest win in that stretch
was a 51-43 home win over nationally ranked Daemen Jan. 28, 2012. That win gave the Pioneers first place in the AMC and earned them their
first-ever national ranking at No. 25 in the next week’s NAIA Division II Top 25 Poll.
Point Park’s 13-game win streak finally came to an end on Feb. 7, 2012 with a narrow road loss at Walsh, 48-46. But the Pioneers stayed on
course to win their next three conference games over Roberts Wesleyan, Fisher and Carlow to improve to 12-1 AMC. Although Point Park lost
its regular-season finale at Daemen, 67-51, on Feb. 18, it still tied for the AMC Regular Season Title at 12-2. And since they had the tiebreaker
over a Daemen team that was also 12-2 AMC, the Pioneers got the No. 1 in the AMC Tournament.
Point Park’s AMC Tournament appearance was their first post-season qualification since 1993-94 in the KECC. The Pioneers beat No. 4 seed
Houghton, 71-54, in the first round to advance to the finals where they would host Daemen. And with a 60-48 win over the No. 2 seed Wildcats,
Point Park won the AMC Tournament title and locked up the conference’s automatic bid to the NAIA DII National Tournament.
Point Park received a No. 7 seed in the national tournament in Sioux City, Iowa. The Pioneers drew No. 2 seed and No. 10-ranked Corban
(Ore), which came away with a slim, 60-58 victory over unranked Point Park. The Pioneers ended the year with their highest ranking ever at
