2011 Wounded Warrior Federal Employment Conference

• Ensures that non-clinical processes and programs that support wounded, ill, and injured Soldiers are integrated and optimized throughout the Army

• Supports the Army's commitment to the rehabilitation and successful transition of wounded, ill, and injured Soldiers back to active duty or to Veteran status

• Serves as the lead proponent for the Army's Warrior Care and Transition Program – 29 Warrior Transition Units (WTUs) – 9 Community-Based Warrior Transition Units (CBWTUs)– Army Wounded Warrior Program (AW2)– Adaptive Sports Programs (ie: Warrior Games)– Career and Employment Readiness

• Includes a personalized plan created by the Soldier for the Soldier• Regular scrimmages with Triad of Care and multidisciplinary team to

assess progress toward identified goals• Short- and long-term goals for each of six domains:

– Career– Physical– Emotional– Social– Family– Spiritual

• Official Army program that supports the most severely wounded, ill, and injured Soldiers, Veterans, and their Families since 2004

• More than 170 AW2 Advocates provide personal, local support at military treatment facilities and VA hospitals, to foster the Soldiers’ independence

• Suffer from injuries or illness incurred in the line of duty after 10 September 2001• Receive or expected to receive a 30% rating in one or more specific condition as

rated by the Physical Disability Evaluation System (PDES) in categories such as:– Severe Loss of Vision / Blindness

– Loss of Limb

– Spinal Cord Injury

– Severe Paralysis

– Permanent disfigurement

– Severe Hearing Loss / Deafness

• OR receive a Combined 50% PDES rating for any combat/combat-related condition

AW2 Eligibility

– Severe burns

– Severe Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI)

– Severe Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)

– Fatal / Incurable Disease with limited life

expectancy
