From the PresidentWelcome Kankakee Community College student athletes, parents, supporters and fans!

Having now served the college for two years as president, I take pride in the level of commitment and quality of our student athletes. It is an honor to be part of the Cavaliers family, and I would like to thank the parents of our student athletes, each member of the coaching staff, and the members of our Cavalier Club who help to support our athletic teams.

Having been a student athlete, I am aware of the desire to succeed as an athlete. More importantly, I am aware of the need to succeed as a student. Both the desire and the need may be fulfilled through the student athlete’s drive, motivation, and hard work. As parents and educators, we pledge to continue to provide the encouragement and support to our student athletes.

It has been my pleasure to attend many of the college sporting events, both on campus and away, but last year’s Pack the House event to celebrate our undefeated women’s and men’s basketball teams was a highlight. It is my fondest wish to see that same occurrence this year for all of our teams. I wish each member of all of our teams the best of success!

Please join the Board of Trustees, myself, faculty, staff, and all Cavaliers fans in wishing each of our teams and coaches a successful season.

John Avendano, Ph.D.President

Outside hittersThe roster shows six players who can fill the outside hitter position.

They are Lorielle Bliss, Leann Cook, Katherine Larson, Marlee Michalski,

Brittany Nelson and Kaitlyn Wagenaar. All of the athletes in this group can play at least one other

position and might end up there by the completion of the season.

Defensive

specialists/

libero

Megan Bultema and Brianne

Fay, two of the three returnees,

will anchor this position. It was a

source of consistency and strength

in last year’s 40-win season, and

is expected to be characterized by

toughness and leadership again.

Middle blockers

The middle blockers are an explosive

group of athletes who will don a

Cavaliers uniform for the first time

but will bring with them high levels

of achievement and experience. They

are Marche’ Hammeren, Celeste

McCormick and Amara Williams.

Setters

The Cavaliers offense will be in

the hands of two rookies – Olivia

Donley and Keona Kelly – as they

strive to continue the program’s

tradition of fine setters.

2010 RecapIn 2010, the Lady Cavaliers volleyball team achieved a record of 40 wins and 10 losses. It was only the 12th time in the 33-year history of the program that a Cavaliers squad earned 40 or more victories in a year. The season was marked by consistent all-around play against a slate of nationally ranked programs. There was only one instance when they dropped two matches in a row.

The Lady Cavaliers also were noted for their potent offensive attack, putting away almost 1,900 kills and hitting nearly .260%. The team made it to the Division II Region IV Championship match and ended the year ranked in the Top 20.

2011 previewThe 2011 squad consists of five sophomores and eight freshmen, including three returnees from a year ago. Team members have experience at both the national and international levels of play. The challenge is how quickly this group can band together as they face programs with more experience right from the onset of the season.
