PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

I trust everyone enjoyed the warm summer months and I hope that you all had a chance to experience the beautyand relaxation that your parks have to offer.

Your Park System currently is comprised of 36 parks and facilities. Your Park District Grounds-Maintenance Staffworks hard to keep all the parks and facilities in tip-top shape, and it looks like their workload just got an increase. On May 25, 2011, your Park District received official confirmation from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, that we are one of 36 Park Districts to be approved for grant money through the “Open Space Land AcquisitionDevelopment” (OSLAD) program. This $372,000 in grant money will be used to redevelop the Countryview/RoyalMeadows Park. This 16.5 acre park will be unique in the fact that it links two neighborhoods with the use of a natureboardwalk, while at the same time offering tennis courts, picnic shelters, open play areas, and a skate park. Thesize and cost of this park dictates that the development will be over two years. Therefore, look for the grand openingto be sometime in 2013.

We have been fortunate to have the support of our local elected officials down in Springfield during the grantapplication process; with their help and the support of the IDNR staff, we have partnered up to protect over 83 acresof open space and develop over $2.7 million in projects. This type of investment not only helps our economy, butalso improves the quality of life in our community.

We, the Board of Commissioners, are also proud to announce that for the third consecutive year, your Park Districthas been awarded the prestigious “Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting.” ThisCertificate indicates the highest standard in governmental accounting and financial reporting. This certifiedprogram, which started in 1946, is very difficult to attain. All the praise goes to your Executive Director and Staff. They are the ones that must account for every dollar of the taxpayers’ money. Let’s keep up the good work andstrive for a fourth year.

Before I end this letter, I would like to mention a few Recreation Programs that might peak your interest:

First, don’t forget our 5th Annual “Because You Can” Walk slated for Saturday, October 15th. The walk begins at9:00am and all net proceeds benefit Children’s Memorial Hospital.

Second, and new this fall, is a Ladies Weightlifting class. This 45-minute program will focus on how to strengthenand tone the body.

Lastly, also new, is our “The Perfect Party” program. This is a themed birthday party geared towards kids ages threethru nine. The parties will last 1½ hours and the Park District does all the work! What a deal! For more details, please read the complete program descriptions found in this catalog.

Be Active and Stay Healthy!

Early Childhood Program Requirements• Children must be the correct age by 9/1/11, unless otherwise specified. In order to provide your child with the best possible recreational and/or learning experience, all of our programs are planned according to the ages listed in our brochure.

• Classes are for child attending only, except for classes with an adult. Parents should not remain in the classroom or gymnasium after dropping off their child. This is in the child's best interest, as continual interruptions tend to affect participant's attention span and inhibit the establishment of peerrelationships.

• All children must be potty-trained, unless they are attending a class where an adult stays with them or otherwise stated in the class description. Diapers are not permitted in independent classes unless stated in the class description.

• Please do not bring food to any class, unless previously arranged.• For your children's safety, all children enrolled in preschool-age programs must be picked up from the specific classroom or program site by their parents or designated guardian. No child will be released from the classroom to anyone other than these individuals.
