But when Mark is not caring for his kids or for our congregation, he is thinking about Africa. In fact it’s his job to think about Africa. Mark works for STRATFOR, a private, global intelligence com- pany headquartered in Austin. His official title is Senior Field Analyst and the Director of Sub Saha- ran Africa Analysis. His work involves researching and analyzing political, economic and security af- fairs throughout Africa, and his work travels have taken him to countries including South Africa, An- gola, Nigeria, Kenya and Ethiopia. Before coming to STRATFOR, Mark researched African politics at the University of Kentucky, where he received a MA in diplomacy. Prior to graduate school, Mark served with Mennonite Central Committee in Zambia for three years, and Mennonite Mission Network in Be- nin and Cote d'Ivoire. SHPC Disaster ResponseSince 1998, members of SHPC and MissionPresbytery have responded to many natu-ral Disasters such as floods, hurricanes,and tornadoes across Texas. We haverecently gone to Round Rock to assistAustin Disaster Relief Network and otherfaith based organizations in rebuildinghomes damaged by flooding from Hurri-cane Hermine on September 9, 2010.

The next SHPC repair trip is scheduledfor Saturday, April 2nd from 7:30 a.m.to about 3 p.m. Sign up in the narthex orcall Tary Snyder at 512-892-6800 oremail: [email protected]. Theremay be additional trips this spring, sosign up today and note you are interestedin a later trip.
