1. History of Hangeul

• Hangeul, the Korean alphabet, was invented in 1443. 

• King Sejong, the 4th King of the Joseon Dynasty, invented a new alphabet system consisting of 28 letters.

• King Sejong named the alphabet system "Hunminjeongeum," and officially announced it in 1446 through the publication of a book explaining the background and purpose of the invention, and the principle behind each letter and its pronunciation.

UNESCO registered Hangeul as part of its Memory of the World Program in October 1997, and King Sejong is remembered in history as the king who made the greatest achievement in language.

The basic vowels are ‘ ㆍ’ , ‘ ㅡ’ , and ‘ ㅣ’ . They represent the sky, the earth, and man, respectively.

※ The phonetic value of ‘ ㆍ ’ has been lost and is no longer used.Another set of vowels was invented by combining the three basic vowels.

Age is an important aspect in Korean society. When two Koreans meet for the first time, they ask each other about their age. Since Koreans regularly address each other by their appellations depending on their ages, it is especially important for Koreans to know who is older among them address elders using appropriate titles.

The origin of “Arirang”First meaning of “Arirang” is ‘The Lover’

“Ari-” means ‘love’ and “-Rang” means ‘a ☞person’.

Second meaning of “Arirang” is “The missed one”

In modern Korean, ‘Ari-’ means the feeling ☞when someone get hurt by breaking up with their loved one or miss somebody so much .

‘Srirang’ means the other meaning of ‘Arirang’ When people say “My heart is ‘srida’.”, it ☞

means similar with “My heart is ‘arida’ .”
