Edina Community Foundation 2011-2012 Annual Report Dear Neighbors, The Edina Community Foundation’s service to Edina during the fiscal year ending June 30, 2012, can be measured by the 72 funds outlined in this Annual Report. They have been established to provide support for a wide range of nonprofit organizations, and they collectively reflect the Foundation’s focus areas of Bringing People Together, Helping Our Neighbors and Beautifying Our Community. We thank the hundreds of contributors who have donated to these funds. Ultimately, they make it possible for the Foundation to fulfill its mission of Strengthening Our Community. Here are a few of the many ways in which they facilitate our program services: • We assumed responsibility during this year and in the future for funding, overseeing and sustaining the Connecting With Kids initiative. This program strives to connect individuals, families, organizations and other resources in Edina to help them fulfill their responsibility to raise healthy children and develop a healthy community. • We proposed an “Edina Challenge” for the Foundation to work with other organizations to more completely ensure that youth in poverty are able to participate in the community, education and recreation programs that lead to success in adult life. An Edina High School senior, Tara Gupta, met with other community service organizations to explore their interest in joining together to meet this challenge as part of her May term project. This was reported to the community in a column on the Edina Challenge in the Fall 2012 issue of About Town, available on our website. • We continued to host Edina’s largest party – the 4th of July Parade and fireworks – with great thanks to a volunteer committee chaired by Richard Olson. And we collaborated with the Edina Resource Center, Fairview Southdale Hospital and several other organizations to sponsor a very successful Health and Wellness Expo in April, chaired by Mary and Tom Lavelle. This service to the community was supported by more than 950 charitable contributions and commercial sponsorships last year, ranging from $15 to $50,000. We invite all Edina residents to consider supporting the Foundation’s charitable work and hope you will contact us if you would like to play a more active role in helping our Foundation better serve the Edina community.
