Welcome to Albright College. Founded in 1856, Albright College celebrates more than a century and a half of a rich academic heritage in the liberal arts and professions and a dynamic, welcoming and collaborative campus community. On 118 tree-lined acres, Albright is a place that connects people in an open, down-to-earth, collaborative community. With 1,660 traditional un-dergraduate students, Albright’s small size ensures a 12:1 student/faculty ratio, close student/faculty relationships and an emphasis on the whole individual. Collaboration both in and outside of the classroom means students have extraordinary opportunities to work with, communicate with, and learn -- not only from faculty but many others with different perspectives and experiences. At Albright, students have the ability to connect fields of study to create an individualized education. Today’s complex world demands the special perspective gained from an education that crosses boundaries to link knowledge, ideas, people and possibilities. Flexible thinkers, open to new ideas and able to communicate, are in demand in the job market. Connecting your interests and fields of learning can lead to new career possibilities. At Albright, more than half of all students opt for combined or interdisciplinary majors -- and still graduate in four years. In fact, in any given year, students create more than 200 different combinations of majors. But whether you select a single major or combine fields of study, you will find that Albright faculty works closely with every student to create an indi-vidualized education that reflects individual talents, interests and career goals. Albright offers more than 50 areas of study, a broad range of interdisciplinary programs including digital media, information systems, optics, Latin American studies, psychobiology, biochemistry, and environmental studies, and combined concentrations such as music/business for those interested in careers in the music industry. Albright’s long tradition of excellence in the natural sciences and pre-professional programs continues to prepare graduates for medical, dental and veterinary school.

Explore Everything Albright Has to Offer Campus life at Albright is enriched by 23 varsity sports, including a new lacrosse program, and more than 80 student organizations. Whether you choose to be involved in Greek life, special-interest organizations, varsity, club or intramural sports, art and music groups, student government, publications or religious groups, getting involved in campus life plays a significant role in helping to produce a well-rounded graduate. Interested in community service? Albright’s Volunteer Center serves as a clearinghouse for community service projects and connects students and agencies. Albright students log some 15,000 volunteer hours every year! No matter how you choose to be involved, there are always lots of choices for learning, growing and making friends at Albright! Albright students are some of the most involved and active students anywhere. Albright students have access to outstanding teaching, research, social, cultural and religious resources. The F. Wilbur Gingrich Library contains more than 240,000 books, periodicals, records, and audio/visual materials, and has a knowledgeable staff dedicated to serving students. The Center for the Arts houses the nationally recognized Freedman Gallery, devoted to contemporary art, and the Wachovia Theatre, a comfortable venue for theatre and concerts. The new Schumo Center for Fitness and Well-Being offers numerous health and fitness programs and opportunities, as well as Peg’s, a café featuring healthy foods. Gene Shirk Stadium, constructed in 2005, and the Schumo Center are some of the best facilities in Division III athletics. Albright boasts a new state-of-the-art Science Center with exceptional instrumentation. The Experiential Learning and Career Development Center offers countless opportunities for collaborative faculty/student research, study abroad, internships and career development. Eight residence halls offer a variety of housing options. The Campus Center, the hub of student activity, contains student lounges, the bookstore, Jake’s Place (snack bar), Jake’s Java (coffee bar) and the dining hall.

TheNatatorium

AlbrightAthletics

The Albright College natatorium is truly one of the most impressive facilities in the Middle Atlantic Conference.

The six-lane, 25-yard pool has been home to some of the top teams to ever compete in the MAC. A large fan section is filled to capacity every time the Lions have a meet and a state-of-the-art electronic timing system gives fans an up-to-the-second view of the action. Earlier this summer all of the skylights were replaced, allowing even more light into the building and showing off the Natatorium’s impressive features.

Maintained throughout the year, the Natatorium also serves as the home for many different aquatic classes, for both the Berks County community as well as the faculty and administrators at Albright.

The Face of Albright Athletics

AlbrightAthletics.com

In the summer of 2009 the Albright College Athletic department signed with Internet Consulting Services to redesign the athletic website. After just a few short weeks, ICS pre-sented Albright with a top-notch website that truly shows what Lions athletics are all about.

About Albright AthleticsThe athletics program at Albright College is geared to student-athletes who love their sport and want the freedom to explore everything college life has to offer.

Albright sponsors 23 sports teams on the varsity level, 11 for men and 12 for women, with more than 30 percent participation of the student body in intercollegiate athletics. The College also supports varsity cheerleading, four established club teams (deck hockey, men’s and women’s rugby, badminton, and ultimate frisbee) and a wide variety of seasonal intramurals.

Albright is a member of the 16-team Middle Atlantic Conference, one of the nation’s strongest NCAA Division III conferences. Because of that, student-athletes at Albright have the rare opportunity to compete on a high level and enjoy the benefits of the small-college environment. In addition to the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and MAC, Albright is affiliated with the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC).

Albright coaches ask for dedication both on the fields and in the classrooms. Despite the challenge, many Lion athletes earn grade-point averages of 3.0 and above in a variety of pre-professional disciplines and distinctive programs. Clearly, Albright is about academic excellence, first and foremost.

Coaching Staff

John StuhltragerHead Coach

9th Season (133-32-1, .804)

Now in his ninth season as head coach of the Lions men’s and women’s swimming teams, John Stuhltrager has helped establish Albright College as a powerhouse in the Middle Atlantic Conference. In his eight seasons at the helm, he has been voted MAC Coach of the Year seven times (five with the women, two with the men).

Both the men’s and momen’s teams have thrived under Coach Stuhltrager’s leader-ship, compiling a collective record of 133-32-1 in the past seven seasons. Throughout his time as head coach Stuhl-trager has guided the men’s team to three MAC championship titles (2004, 2005, 2011) while the women’s team collected four consecutive titles from 2005 to 2008. Only twice has an Albright men’s or women’s team finished below second place at the conference championship meet with Stuhltrager in charge.

Along with the teams’ success, numerous individuals have been recognized for their outstanding achievements. Albright has brought home eight David B. Eavenson Swimmer of the Year awards and six Rookie of the Year awards during Stuhltrager’s tenure. Last winter, Stuhltrager made his first trip the NCAA Division III National Championship meet in Minnesota, after Chris Sheerer became the first male swimmer in program history to qualify for nationals.

Eleven conference records have been broken by Albright swimmers since Stultrager became head coach in 2003. The team record board has been re-written under his leadership, with 15 men’s and 12 women’s records being broken (out of 19 events).

Stuhltrager had an impressive collegiate career, swimming for both East Stroudsburg and Bloomsburg. Excelling in fly and sprint events, Stuhltrager held school records at both institutions and was named to the PSCAC All-Conference team four years in a row.

Coaching has been a way of life for Stuhltrager since his days at Bloomsburg. He has more than 20 years of coaching experience with a wide variety of ability levels. Stuhltrager spent five years as a head coach at a YMCA, producing numerous district, state and national qualifiers. He also had success at the high school level as a co-head coach at Monsignor Bonner.

Stuhltrager began his collegiate coaching career as an assistant coach with Albright in 2001, working with Hall of Fame head coach Jenis Frederick for two years. During that time, the men’s and women’s teams won a combined three MAC championship titles.

Stuhltrager and his wife Heidi live in Lititz with their 8-year-old daughter Morgan and their 6-year-old son Brenden.

Assisting Stuhltrager this season will be a trio of his former swimmers- Cindy Ikeler, John Ferrara and Allie Fies.

This upcoming season of Albright swimming will prove to be an exciting one. With the men’s team looking to win a second straight MAC championship and the

women’s team looking to earn their ninth title, the Lions will once again be a major competitor in conference.

Both teams are led by head coach John Stuhltrager, who earned the MAC Coach

of the Year awards for both men’s and women’s swimming in 2010-11. The teams

are working hard in and out of the water to improve their times and get ready for the

season ahead.

The men’s team will be lead by junior standout and MAC Conference MVP- Evan

B. Davidson Award recipient Adam Kurtz. Last season Kurtz finished with three

individual MAC titles in the 100 backstroke, 100 butterfly and 200 butterfly.

Senior Zach McElheny will be looking to place in the top-three again in the 500

and 1650 freestyle events, and in the 200 butterfly.

2011 MAC Rookie of the Year Stephen Thomas aims to further his success this season and is starting off healthy after a mid-season back injury that kept him

out of several meets last year.

Although the men’s team will be moving on after the loss of graduated seniors Chris Sheerer and Eric Kramer- who contributed in major ways to the last

championship season- they have brought in a number of new freshman and transfer students that could help make this season better and faster than the last.

On the women’s side, the Lady Lions have made it their goal reclaim the MAC title after two consecutive third-place finishes.

Senior Aimee Snyder and junior Madison Hauk will look to reach new levels

as they continue their winning ways this season. Last year, Snyder placed top-

three in both the 400 and 200 individual medley and the 100 freestyle events

at the MAC championships. Hauk gained an individual MAC title in the 200

butterfly and placed second in the 200 individual medley.

The women’s team will also look to senior Katy Oeste, junior Kari Keller and

sophomore Tricia Janowiak to be major competitors in the upcoming season.

The trio is working hard to drop time and help contribute to a championship

year.

Aside from the upperclassmen, the Lady Lions picked up 10 new swimmers

who add not only depth but speed as well, setting the team up to be a major

competitor at the championship meet.

The clock starts for the first time this season at 1pm on October 15, as the Lions host Bloomsburg in the Natatorum.

Junior Kari Keller

Senior Zach McElheny

Over the last eight seasons, head coach John

Stuhltrager has made Albright into one of the

most dominant programs in the history of the MAC
