Happy New Year, Chargers!
Our students and teachers came back from Winter
Break refreshed and ready to tackle the academic
expectations of the New Year and the new term! At
the beginning of a new year, many people set reso‐
lutions. I have a great resolution for the Dundee‐
Crown community to work on together: improve the
perception of Dundee‐Crown!
As I shared lunch with our Students of the Term for
2nd
term, who are listed below, we discussed the
good, the bad, and the ugly of D‐C. While we dis‐
cussed the many great things going on in our class‐
rooms, in our halls, and after school, we also chat‐
ted about the fact that often the public has a less
than favorable
perception
of
us.
We
are
going
to
strive to change that view. The best way to influence
a change to a more positive perception of D‐C is to
increase our test scores.
We need everyone to work together on this. Our
teachers and staff will push the academics during
the day, but we need you to reinforce them when
our students get home! Ask them about their
homework, what they did in a specific class, who
their
teachers
are,
what
the
“word
of
the
week”
is,
what skill they are working on, if they are struggling
in any classes, and if they are going for tutoring if
they need additional help. Did you know that if
every student pushed to get three more questions
correct on the national test, our PSAE score would
jump up? Let’s keep pushing that Charger Pride by
working on our scores! I know we can do it!
Congratulations to our Students of the Term:
Edgar Balleno – AVID; Natalie Novak – FACS;
DaShun Lloyd – Industrial Ed.; Jessica Christensen –
Business; Anthony Dinuzzo – Science; Patrick Tho‐
mas –
Credit
Recovery;
Mayra
Pacheco
–
PE/Health;
John Nellessen – Social Studies; Carolyn Clarton –
English; An Nisa Suci – ESL; Rodrigo Meza – Math;
Carolyn Panknin – Art; Kelly Hof – Music;
Tatiana Martinez – World Language; Karina Estrada
– Special Services; Caroline Hutton – Freshman
Academy; Melissa Sanchez – Reading.
Andrew Trulock, a current D‐C junior, earned his
Eagle Scout Award by organizing and leading a food
drive
to
stock
the
FISH
Food
Pantry.
Way
to
push
that Charger Pride, Andrew!
Our students are now choosing their courses for
next year. It is important for them to select classes
wisely, especially electives, which they need for re‐
quirements and/or have a desire to take. Please
have a discussion with your student regarding his/
her class selections. Our staffing for next year will be
based on student course selections. Once the
courses are entered and the schedules are run, it is
very difficult
for
students
to
change
classes.
Push the Pride!

College Representatives
Every year representatives from many colleges
come to Dundee‐Crown High School to visit with our
students. Students should watch the Counseling
Department calendar, view the website, or listen to
announcements in order to learn when these admis‐
sions representatives are available. College repre‐
sentatives meet with students in the counseling of ‐
fice during lunches.
Work Permits
The Department
of
Labor
requires
a work
permit
for
all persons under the age of 16. The first step is for
the minor to obtain a letter of intent from the pro‐
spective employer stating his or her name, the job
and its description, signed by a manager. Then that
letter, the minor’s birth certificate issued from the
county of birth and social security card must be
brought to Mrs. Altmayer in the Main Office by the
parent or legal guardian. Students may not submit
these materials themselves. Students under the
age of
16
who
wish
to
work
are
restricted
in
the
number of hours they can be work each day and
week. There are also many restrictions for minors
on the types of businesses they are allowed to work
in and the types of jobs they may be employed to
do. Hazardous jobs utilizing chemicals or power
equipment are among those that are unacceptable.
For more details, contact the main office.

College Visits
One important factor in evaluating a college is the
campus visit. Consider this:
College Visitation Days—every student may take up
to two days during their junior and
senior years for the purpose of visiting a college.
These days do not count against a
student’s attendance providing the proper proce‐
dure is followed. See your Dundee‐Crown planner
for details.
Transcript Requests
High school transcripts are provided to students
when requested with the Transcript Release form
available in the Counseling Office. There is a mini‐
mum of a 48 hour waiting period before a transcript
can be prepared due to the volume of requests.
Students should keep this in mind when needing
transcripts to be sent by a specific deadline date.
The first 5 requested Official Transcripts are free to
current students. Any additional Official Transcripts
cost
$5.00
per
copy.
