Increased Flow SectorOpinaca Reservoir

Information about the impact of hydroelectric developments on the territory.

Before the partial diversion of the Rupert River

The outflow from the Rivière Eastmain was ± 600 m3/s. The natural inflows (i.e., the water from nearby mountains and rivers) to Opinaca reservoir is ± 300 m3/s. The total flow at the spillway of Sarcelle powerhouse was hence ± 900 m3/s.

After the partial diversion of the Rupert River

New inflows from the Rupert diversion are ± 450 m3/s, for a total flow of ± 1,350 m3/s to Sarcelle powerhouse.

Year 2010

Due to unusual weather conditions (there was little precipitation and natural inflows were low), 2010 cannot be considered a reference year.
