In fact, life would be quite uninteresting without change. Some changes are scheduled, planned, routine –the beautiful changing of the seasons; the joy of seeing your family grow and become more independent each year. Other changes are unforeseen and mean an unexpected turn in the road of life. In business, this could mean increased job responsibilities or workload, a new employer, or a new career path. And just when you thought our industry was starting to settle back into a familiar rhythm, many of our col- leagues are being faced with new changes and challenges. The incentive industry in Canada contributes many millions of dol- lars to the economy. Yet, despite its financial clout, it is still a very intimate industry. This was very apparent at this year’s Incentive Works show, where I’m sure not one attendee was able to com- plete an aisle without meeting someone they knew. Incentive Works has always been a very social show, and the chance encounters with past colleagues, friends and business acquain- tances are genuinely joyful. On a smaller scale than Incentive Works, this chance to make strong industry connections happens at each of Site’s events, and on our various committees, both locally and internationally. In fact, because of the relatively small size of Site, these connections turn into lasting friendships, with our members genuinely caring about each other - providing each of us with the much needed support when one of those unexpected changes in life happens. My involvement with Site and the business connections I’ve made have absolutely been beneficial from a corporate perspective. But I can also honestly say, that I have had the distinct pleasure of get- ting to know many of our members much better than I previously did, several of whom I now am privileged to call friends – and this is not a unique experience amongst our members. Site is like an extended family, ready to provide each other with guidance and support. Site’s connections ensure life’s changes are met with new exciting opportunities.
