resident's Message Representing 332 credit unions with $55 billion in assets and 6.5 million members allows LSCU to pack a powerful political punch and command the attention of lawmakers both at the state capitals and in the halls of Congress. This means we convey the “Credit Union Difference” and advocate on behalf of Alabama and Florida credit unions with a more powerful collective voice to affect positive change for our industry.

The ever-changing political landscape of financial institutions demands consistent legislative and regulatory advocacy. The combined experience and collective knowledge of LSCU’s expanded Governmental Affairs Department allows us to put forth a proactive legislative and regulatory issues agenda to allow Alabama and Florida credit unions to expand and grow their services to meet the needs of their members.

A greater concentration of resources allows LSCU to strengthen our localized grassroots advocacy efforts; providing more opportunities for you to be engaged in the political process to affect change for credit unions. Going forward, you will receive real-time updates on pressing legislative and regulatory issues so that you will be well informed of important legislative and regulation issues in a timely manner.

LSCU is very much aware of the ever-increasing regulatory burden of credit unions. Our regulatory and compliance staff are working to lessen the burden through regular contact and interaction with state and federal regulators before rules are written to decrease the operational impact on your credit union. We will quickly disseminate and implement easy-to-understand compliance information to our member credit unions.

As the League of Southeastern Credit Unions, we are able to

tell the Alabama & Florida credit union story with a stronger,

larger collective voice.

The consolidation of two strong state leagues into one powerful voice for Alabama and Florida credit unions has been realized with the creation of the League of Southeastern Credit Unions (LSCU). We invite you to take a look at what membership will mean for your credit union as we begin our first year as LSCU.

Our new corporate identity includes the enhancement of core services (Advocacy and Information) and an integrated Service Corporation with an expanded suite of products and services that will assist in meeting the needs of your credit union and its members.

I am honored to be part of this new League and embrace the opportunity to bring best-in-class products and services to you as an inaugural member of LSCU. Your ongoing affiliation and active participation is vital to the long-term success and strength of the credit union movement. I can assure you LSCU will be a mindful steward of your dues dollars during these tough economic times with an operation dedicated to returning increased value of affiliation to our membership.

Sincerely,

Patrick La PinePresident/CEOLeague of Southeastern Credit Unions

Cutting Edge CommunicationInformative Education & Training

LSCU communicates with members through a streamlined process which provides them with pertinent and timely information in an efficient manner. While numerous channels of communication are being utilized, featured communications include an easy-to-navigate, interactive website, LSCU’s quarterly magazine, monthly educational emails, a weekly eNewsletter, and other relevant association and business services emails. By disseminating breaking news and information in a timely manner, LSCU strives to be your first source for industry information.

By cultivating stronger relationships with media in Alabama and Florida and engaging local, state, and national media outlets, we highlight the good works of credit unions by placing them in

the spotlight as consumer-friendly financial institutions working to assist their members and the communities in which they serve.

In today’s technology-driven, dynamic environment, multimedia use is the standard for effective organizations. LSCU’s exploration into emerging communication technologies helps us convey information using video and other multimedia channels that can be utilized by our credit unions for staff and members alike.

LSCU’s expanded educational offerings will address the training needs of credit unions through relevant content which will give credit union staff and volunteers the tools they need to perform in their positions more efficiently.

With tools ready for implementation, trained executives take back usable information that will increase effectiveness and positively impact your credit union. Quality education and training programs include:

Conferences & Workshops enable credit union professionals to learn about the latest topics and trends from industry experts. LSCU’s expanded educational calendar addresses an array of topics including Lending, Collections, Bank Secrecy, IRA’s, Trust Accounts, Marketing, Regulatory Compliance, Asset Liability Management, and more. Partnering with chapters on a regular basis allows us to bring educational offerings

to you at the local level, and enable more credit union staff access to training without the added cost associated with travel.

Distance Learning provides a flexible learning experience for credit union professionals who want the same quality training, but from remote locations. Through the use of technology, LSCU is offering more training to credit unions via webinar and audio conferences. Additionally, through our cooperative partnership with the Credit Union National Association’s (CUNA) Center for Professional Development, LSCU credit unions have access to hundreds of online educational offerings.

Leadership Councils are designed to provide credit union professionals opportunities to network with their peers, discuss timely issues concerning their professions, share best practices, and hear from industry experts. The Councils meet several times

a year in multiple locations and are very successful for executives in Florida. With the consolidation, we are expanding participation into Alabama in a central location.

The Annual Convention & Exposition (AC&E) provides high quality, pertinent education from industry leaders; competitive pricing for participants and exhibitors; and a world-class member experience. This is LSCU’s premier networking event to showcase and celebrate the credit union movement. As we transition to an integrated AC&E, we look to bring the best of both annual conventions to Orlando in June 2010.

The expanded educational calendar will refl ect the growing training needs of our member

products and services to help fine-tune operations and facilitate growth.

In addition, this area administers our educational and charitable foundations in both states, continuing to facilitate contributions and need-based scholarships. We utilize our international partnerships to continue to advise and work in nations where credit unions are emerging. We work cooperatively with credit unions and chapters to expand financial literacy offerings to members and non-members alike with an emphasis on adult education.
