PRESS RELEASE
2010 Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination
Results Released
A total of 122,387 candidates who took part in the 2010 HKCEE
will receive their results tomorrow (4 August).
In this cohort 83,059 (67.9%) were day school candidates and
33,246 (27.2%) were private candidates. The total number of
candidates sitting the examinations increased on last years number
by 5.9%.
This year, 58,699 candidates met the minimum requirements of
Secondary Six admission, representing a 0.7% increase in number of
candidates compared to last year. 31.4% of all candidates, i.e.
26,583 candidates, who took at least 6 subjects attained 14 points
or above. The percentage was comparable with that of 2009.
In terms of top performance, 16 candidates obtained 10As/ 5*
this year and 41 candidates were awarded 9As/ 5*.
Comparing the attainment of day schools first attempters in
English Language this year to that of 2009, the performance this
year was very similar to last years, with only very slight
variations of less than 1% at all levels. For Chinese Language,
higher percentages of candidates have attained Levels 1 (up 0.9%),
2 (up 3.2%) and 4 (up 3.1%), while lower percentages have attained
Levels 3 (down 4.5%) and 5 (down 0.9%). There is also a noticeable
drop in the percentage of candidates getting Unclassified (down
1.4%).
1,789 (2.4%) day school first attempters were awarded Level 5*
in Chinese Language and 1,211 (1.7%) attained Level 5* in English
Language. These represent about the top one-third and one-fifth of
the Level 5 candidates in these two language subjects
respectively.
This year, 56.1% of all candidates obtained a Grade E or Level 2
or above in five or more subjects, including Chinese Language and
English Language, which was the same as last year.
2010 is a year of historical importance as this marks the last
administration of HKCEE for school candidates. As in previous years
the HKCEE remains to be a qualification that is highly valued both
locally and internationally. Based on our experience with the HKCEE
and the HKALE, we are confident in preparing for the first
administration of the HKDSE in 2012, said Dr Francis Cheung,
Secretary General of the Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment
Authority.
-
To ensure accessibility for candidates with special needs, 40
special examination centres were set up and special examination
arrangements were made for 941 candidates to tailor for their
needs.
During the examination two candidates were found cheating and
were disqualified from the subjects concerned.
Detailed results and related statistics are provided in the
Annexes.
