Christmas is a Season
SSAA, cello, piano and sleigh bells
Music and lyrics by Jennifer Covert
When the holidays near I am full of good cheer From the cookies and eggnog I get but once a year.
When the carolers sing and the jingle bells ring, I am happy beyond all compare.
I like sleigh rides in winter and hayrides in fall, But the season between is the best one by far.
Yes, it’s Christmas. That’s my favorite season of all.
There’s a chill in the air as the children take care Hanging stockings and hoping Santa Claus will soon be there.
Family gathers with glee ‘round the brightly lit tree Sharing stories of Christmases past.
I like changes in color as leaves start to fall, But I love the displays at the Woodfield Mall.
Yes, it’s Christmas. That’s my favorite season of all.
As we’re driving to Grandma’s with the kids in pajamas We are singing with Bing on the car stereo.
We see reindeer on roof tops, bright lights in the treetops, Bows and garland on houses as we’re riding by.
I like splashing in puddles and hearing raindrops fall, And a day at the beach in the summer’s a ball,
But it’s Christmas. That’s my favorite season of all. Yes, it’s Christmas. That’s my favorite season of all.

¡Venid, Pastores a Belén!
SSAA and Piano
Two traditional Puertorican Villancicos
arranged by Edgar Colón-Hernández
¡Venid, pastores, venid! Come, shepherds, come! ¡Oh, ve-nid a Belén! Oh, come to Bethlehem! ¡Oh, venid al portal! Oh, come to the manger! Yo no me voy de Belén I will not leave Bethlehem sin el Niño Jesús without the Boy Jesus un momento adorar. one moment having adored.
Y la estrella de Belén And the star of Bethlehem nos guiará con su luz will guide us with its light hasta el humilde portal toward the humble manger donde nació Jesus. where Jesus was born.
Pastores a Belén, Shepherds to Bethlehem vamos con alegría let’s gladly go que ha nacido ya for now has been born el Hi-jo de María. Mary’s Son.
Allí, allí, nos espera Jesús. There, over there, Jesus awaits us. ¡Llevemos pues turrones y miel Then let’s bring nougats and honey para ofrecer al Niño Manuel! to offer the Child Emanuel!
Vamos, vamos, vamos a ver Let’s go, let’s go, let’s go to see vamos a ver al Recién Nacido. let’s go to see the Newborn Child Vamos a ver al Niño Manuel. Let’s go to see the Child Emanuel.
The Krampus [KRAHM-poos] is a mythological being associated with Saint Nicholas, mostly in Austria, Hungary and nearby areas. Similar figures with other names - Knecht Ruprecht, Klaubauf, Pelznickel - are known in other parts of Europe. Images of the Krampus were popular as greeting cards. This piece requires that a variety of these images, or similar ones newly created, be displayed for the audience - either projected, or printed large. If possible, there should also be images for station identification (KWIR-TV), funding providers (AIC, San Monto Corp.), and the International Ethnographic Society. There are two possible endings, A and B. Ending A requires a fully-costumed Saint Nicholas (not Santa Claus) in bishop's miter and robes, and a fully-costumed Krampus. Ending B requires a laptop computer. The Announcer and the Random Voice should be voiceovers, not present on stage. Dr. Edwin Fedwin, upon entering, stands at a lectern with a large, heavy book and a stack of greeting cards. He both reads prepared text (in italics) and makes off-the-cuff remarks (plain text). Dr. Fedwin is a mythological being. Any resemblance to actual persons living or dead is their problem. ANNOUNCER: [station ID image] From KWIR-TV in Morality Falls. Funding for the following commercial-free program has been provided by: [image] The American Immaturity Council -- exploring alternatives to healthy psychological development, [image] And by San Monto Corporation, discovering short-term profits in long-term problems, And by viewers like you. RANDOM OTHER VOICE: Like me? ANNOUNCER: Yes, you! And now, [theme starts; image] a special presentation of the International Ethnographic Society, with your host Doctor Edwin Fedwin… Would you like to be notified as soon as this piece is available? Please send an e-mail to [email protected]. Thank you!
