The  mission  of  Alamo  Area  Partners  for  Animal  Welfare  (AAPAW)  is  to  bring  animal  welfare  organizations,  veterinarians  and  the  community  together  in  partnership  to  improve  the  lives  of  animals  in  the  San  Antonio  area.    Since  AAPAW  began  organizing  Mega  Adoptions  in  December  2007,  thousands  of  San  Antonio'ʹs  finest,  but  homeless,  dogs  and  cats  have  been  adopted  at  these  events  through  its  member  organizations.  Mega  Adoption  Events  are  held  at  different  locations  in  San  Antonio   to  promote  AAPAW'ʹs  mission  of  finding  homes  for  every  adoptable  pet  to  help  achieve  No  Kill  in    San  Antonio.

In  2010,  1,034  pets  found  homes  through  eighteen  AAPAW  events.  Thanks  to  the  support  of  PetCo,  PetSmart,  Pets  Supplies  Plus  and  LifeTime  Fitness,  AAPAW  was  able  to  support  rescue  organizations  with  a  venue.  Through  these  partnerships  AAPAW  helped  place  many  adoptable  pets  in  loving  homes.  Community  support  continues  to  grow  and  on  July  30th  we  were  invited  to  participate  in  the  1st  Annual  San  Antonio  Pet  Expo  at  Freeman  Coliseum.  We

helped  organize  the  demos,  entertainment  and  adoption  event.  There  were  99  adoptions  at  this  event!  These  efforts  helped  double  adoptions  in  2010  compared  to  2009.

Manu Ginobili & Ciru

Many  Ginobili  volunteered  to  film  Care,  Adopt,  Neuter

Public  Service  Announcements  with  his  dog,  Ciru,  for  AAPAW

in  May  2010.

CARE  programs  consist  of  community  outreach  to  promote  responsible  pet  ownership,  including  training,  veterinary  care,  basic  levels  of  care,  pet  socialization  activities,  etc.

ADOPT  programs  include  our  Mega  Adoption  Events  where  hundreds  of  homeless,  abandoned  and  neglected  dogs  and  cats  can  be  showcased  and  find  their  fur-‐‑ever  homes.

NEUTER  programs  include  education  and  promotion  of  spay/neuter  to  reduce  San  Antonio'ʹs  pet  overpopulation  problem,  preventing  the  births  of  any  more  unwanted  stray  dogs  and  cats  struggling  to  survive  in  our  city.

Care. Adopt. Neuter. AAPAW  and  Manu  Ginobili  joined  forces  in  the  mission  to  improve  animal  welfare  by  helping  spread  the  message  on  the  importance  of  Care,  Adopt,  Neuter.

NOELLE  -‐‑  This  beautiful  young  female  lab  mix  was  found  by  good  samaritans  just  before  Christmas.  Noelle'ʹs  tail  was  raw  and  exposed  and  she  had  already  lost  half  her  tail  due  to  a  recent  injury  and  had  a  broken  pelvis  as  well  as  a  bump/puncture  wound  on  the  top  of  her  head.  While  coordinating  a

rescue  to  sponsor  her  future  care  and  adoption,  AAPAW'ʹs  Emergency  Care  Fund  raised  the  funds  to  cover  the  two  surgeries  needed  to  amputate  her  tail  due  to  infection  and  the  medications.  She  then  developed  elevated  liver  values  and  suddenly  lost  her  vision  in  both  eyes  -‐‑  all  between  Christmas  and  New  Year'ʹs  Day!  After  several  months  of  intense  veterinary  care,  her  second  foster  family  decided  they  could  not  bear  to  let  her  go  to  another  home  and  adopted  her.  Noelle  is  now  living  a  life  with  a  loving  family  after  a  very  stark  beginning.

INDIA  -‐‑  This  young  injured  Dalmatian  was  found  by  a  good  samaritan  near  a  school  with  a  severely  injured  leg  and  also  suffering  from  mange.  A  message  was  sent  and  cross-‐‑posted  for  rescue  assistance  and  volunteers  were  able  to  help  catch  the  dog  and  transport  her  to  a  vet  for  evaluation  AND  a  rescue  group  offered  to  sponsor  her  and  was  also  able  to  find  a  family  willing  to  adopt  this

dog,  now  named  India!    The  adoptive  family  contributed  toward  India'ʹs  surgery  and  care,  but  the  vet  expenses  were  extensive  and  they  were  unable  to  cover  the  entire  expense.    India  is  a  very  lucky  girl  to  have  had  so  many  people  come  to  her  assistance!

AAPAW  started  development

of  its  new  web  site  to  better  meet  the  needs  of  the  community  and  members.  The  site  contains  Information  to  help  empower  the  community  to  become  more  involved  in  responsible  pet  ownership.

Consolidation  of  calendar  of  events  to  provide  more  information  about  not  only  AAPAW  events,  but  all  events  involving  animal  welfare  -‐‑  including  s/n  clinics  and  vaccination  clinics.

Several  Task  Forces  were

formed  to  address  spay  and  neuter  education,  veterinary  relations  and  grant  applications  to  support  AAPAW'ʹs  mission  of  bringing  animal  welfare  organizations,  veterinarians  and  the  community together.
