Bloomsburg University, a member of Pennsylvania’s State System of Higher Education, is a four-year coeducational public university founded in 1839. Th rough the stages of its development from a normal school to a teachers college to a multipurpose state college and fi nally to a university in 1983, the institution has retained its emphasis on liberal arts and career education.
Bloomsburg is recognized as one of the best 100 public universities in the United States, and excellence, ranging from its 18 national championships to its international reputation in a number of its academic programs, is an attitude found throughout the faculty and staff .
About 90 percent of Bloomsburg’s students come from throughout Pennsylvania, creating a diverse mix of cultures and ideas. It’s a place where friendships that last a lifetime begin. And it’s a busy place — with more than 160 student organizations and activities, NCAA Division II athletic programs and a popular recreation center.
> Enrollment— Total enrollment is now 9,400,
with an average incoming SAT of 1070 and class
rank in the upper 25 percent; Bloomsburg admits
one in seven applicants and has a four-year reten-
tion rate signifi cantly higher than the national aver-
age. About 60 percent are women and 10 percent
are non-traditional. About 90 percent of Blooms-
burg graduates are quickly placed in their chosen
fi elds.
> Degrees— Bloomsburg University off ers 63 bac-
calaureate degrees, 18 master’s degrees and a joint
doctoral degree in elementary education in coop-
eration with Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
> Financial Aid— About 70 percent of all students
receive some form of fi nancial aid; average amount
of aid is $10,000 per year.
> Cost —About $7,223 per semester for Pennsylva-
nia residents (tuition, fees, typical room and meal
plans), $11,635 for non-residents.
> Faculty— With approximately 1,000 employees,
Bloomsburg University has 383 full-time faculty,
70 percent of whom hold doctoral degrees and 72
percent of whom are tenured. Th e staff is organized
into four divisions: Academic Aff airs, Administra-
tion, Student Life and University Advancement.
> School Colors, Mascot— Th e school colors,
originally “lemon and garnet,” have been maroon
and gold since the 1920s. In the early 1930s, the
Husky became the school mascot when a dog
owned by a faculty member accompanied Adm.
Richard E. Byrd on an expedition to the South Pole.
Th e university’s Division of Continuing and Distance Education serves students through nondegree credit courses, noncredit minicourses, off -campus classes, credit for life experience and distance learning courses on public television.
Th e Town of Bloomsburg, located in the Susquehanna River Valley, has a population of about 12,000 people. Th e central business district is just three blocks southwest of campus, and includes more than 80 retail stores, restaurants, and the Bloomsburg Fair in September. More stores, restaurants and theaters can be found along nearby Route 11 and at the Columbia Mall, northwest of town.
Th e university is within a one-hour drive from such cities as Hazleton, Williamsport, Wilkes-Barre and Scranton; 1.5 hours from Harrisburg; 2.5 hours from Philadelphia; 3 hours from New York City and Baltimore; and four hours from Pittsburgh and Washington, DC.

2010-11 Outlook During his fi rst two years at Bloomsburg
University, head coach Bill Cleary has worked to
build a roster of talented players that can return the
Huskies to one of the elite programs in the PSAC
(Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference). Among
his recruits have been the last two PSAC Eastern
Division Freshman of the Year along with a host
of players who have been key performers for the
Huskies. Th row in some highly touted freshmen
and a few transfers and Cleary’s roster is coming
together.
Cleary’s teams have also taken the necessary
small steps to prepare them for bigger things yet
to come. In his fi rst year with the Huskies the team
narrowly missed the playoff s. Last season the team
earned its fi rst PSAC playoff berth since 2004-05.
Th is year the Huskies will be looking for even more
despite his relatively young lineup.
“While we don’t have any seniors on the roster,
our returning players all saw a great deal of time
last season,” said Cleary. “Th ey have all been in the
tough situations and have responded well. We have
the talent to be successful and I am looking forward
to the season.”
BACK COURT
Th e Huskies’ key returner in the backcourt is
Kelsey Gallagher, a fi rst team All-PSAC East (and
former PSAC East Freshman of the Year) guard that
averaged 15.3 points a game last season. Gallagher
helps the Huskies in so many ways evidenced by
the fact that she led the team in free throw shooting
percentage and rebounding. She is truly the leader
of the team and can show the young players how to
win.
Sophomore Dana Wieller, last year’s PSAC
Freshman of the Year, set a school single season
record last year with 79 made three-pointers and
led the team in scoring with 16.0 points per game.
Wieller will once again be one of the Huskies
outside scoring threats, but has also been working
hard at creating her own shots.
Sophomore Alyssa Flanagan brings knowledge
to the Huskies as a fl oor general, leading the team
in assists and steals last season. She possesses all the
right attributes for a point guard and will continue
to do things until she gets it right.
Kayla Oxenrider, another sophomore, is a quick,
athletic inside-outside player that works hard,
creating problems for her opponents. As a freshman
she averaged 10.6 points a game and was third on
the team with 46 made three-pointers.
Hannah Geedey is in her fi rst season with the
Huskies after transferring from St. Francis (PA)
University. She has an incredible court vision and is
a major off ensive threat. She is highly skilled and an
unselfi sh player.
Catherine Noack and Brianna Dudeck are both
freshmen that will be competing for minutes this
season. Noack has a quick release and a strong
understanding of the game. She is a long, accurate
shooter. Dudeck is lightning quick and will do
anything to help the team succeed. She has a
positive energy and brings a great attitude.
Alyssa Flanagan

FRONT COURT
Th e most-improved player from last year,
sophomore Lauren Ellis is a versatile, inside-outside
player that can cause natural problems on the
court. Ellis averaged 3.8 points, but was third in
rebounding with 4.1 a game despite coming off the
bench.
Fellow sophomores Lauren Biczelewski and
Kristin Selvey look to come off the bench for some
minutes this season. Biczelewski has the ability to
develop into a solid post using her physical strength
in an advantage. Selvey is a long and athletic player,
who is a strong rebounder for the team.
Danielle Derr, a redshirt freshman, is a strong
physical player on the inside and outside. She is a
strong post and her understanding of the game will
help her compete for minutes.
Courtney Nyce and Sydney Mallory will begin
their fi rst season with the Huskies. Nyce comes as a
transfer from Mount St. Mary’s in Maryland. She is
versatile in the paint and brings positive energy as
a very driven player. Mallory, a freshman who has
a knack for being around the ball will compete for
valuable minutes. She has the willingness to learn
and succeed.
WRAP UP
“Th is is a great bunch of young women who have
worked tirelessly for us and have really bought into
what we’re trying to do and expand to get better
than last year,” stated Cleary.
“Our goals for the season have not changed since
I arrived three years ago,” Cleary stated. “We want
to win the PSAC East and then go after a conference
title. It may seem like a tall order, but I think we
(as a coaching staff ) have the pieces in place to
accomplish those goals.”
In order to reach their goals, the Huskies will rely
on their experience from last year and their ability
to lead on their own. “Th ey defi nitely understand
our goals and believe in them whole heartedly,”
confi rmed Cleary.

box, dedicated locker rooms for each sport, including an expanded football locker room, im-
proved offi ce space and additional storage space. In addition the pool area has been complete-
ly renovated with improved lighting, new bleachers, new starting blocks, improved timing
system and record board.
Th e project also provided for enhancements to both the upper and lower entrances that will
showcase the awards the teams have won over the last three decades. Th e project was com-
pleted in August of 2009.

Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Originating in 1951 to administer and promote men’s athletics, the Pennsylvania State Athletic
Conference has evolved into one of the NCAA’s most heralded intercollegiate conferences.
Th e fi rst major step came in 1977, when based on a growing interest, the league reorganized to provide a
structure for its women’s programs. Only three years later, lacking a standard competitive division, league
voted to reclassify the entire conference to NCAA Division II.
Th e most recent enhancement came during the 2008-09 academic year when the PSAC expanded adding
full-time members Gannon and Mercyhurst, and associate member Long Island University-C.W. Post. Th e
membership now consists of 16 full-time institutions and the associate.
All of the league’s full-time members are located within the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, which
makes the PSAC the largest one-state conference in the NCAA. Th e league has also grown to share the
distinctions as: the largest conference in Division II, the largest football-playing conference in the NCAA,
and, with 23, the conference that sponsors the most championships at the Division II level.
Highly competitive on a regional and national level, PSAC schools annually send nearly one-third of
its teams into NCAA postseason play. Th e membership’s success has yielded 42 NCAA team and 228
individual title winners.
While proud of its athletic accomplishments, the league also has evolved into one of Division II’s fi nest
from an academic standpoint. Nearly 1/3 of the PSAC’s estimated 6,200 participants are honored each year
as “Scholar-Athletes” for maintaining a GPA of 3.25 or better - a total that has nearly doubled since PSAC
Scholar-Athletes were fi rst recognized in the mid-1990s.
Although all 16 current institutions are members of Division II, eight league schools also compete at the
Division I level in select sports. PSAC schools enroll over 118,000 students and claim over 670,000 alumni,
including 430,000 who reside in Pennsylvania.
